'Community' Exclusive: Hilary Duff to headline 'Mean Girls' homage

hilary-duffImage Credit: Bob Charlotte/PR Photos; Mitchell Haaseth/NBCOur favorite Greendalians are under assault again—this time from Lizzie McGuire!

Community—a.k.a. NBC’s little overachiever that could—has tapped Hilary Duff to guest star as a member of a mean girl clique that goes head-to-head with the Scoobies, sources confirm to me exclusively.

Duff’s episode is slated to air during November sweeps.

She was getting out-acted on GOSSIP GIRL, what a poor choice.

    • baj24

By whom? The best actor on the show is Leighton Meester. I can take or leave the rest of them…yet I still watch.

    • lorna

hilary cant act except she did good in raise your voice

  • Annie

Excited for the episode. Not sure how I feel about the casting..

    • iCarly better

iCarly is 10x the show Lizzie McGuire ever was

      • Craig

I’ve never seen iCarly, but Lizzie was 10x better than the sh*tfest that is Hannah Montana.

      • iCarly can’t compare.

iCarly can never compare to the amazing show that was Lizzie McGuire.
IT WILL NEVER BE AS GOOD AS LIZZIE MCGUIRE. all “teen” shows are stupid now. only old Disney and Nick shows are good. The new shows can’t even compare.

  • ggny

they should have got Lacey Chabert she hasnt done anything since Mean Girls

  • LOL

Out-acted? Is that like outplayed in football or out-posted on a message board?

  • Flyer

Where is the EW recap for what turned out to be a fantastic season premier of “Community”?

    • Wottadoosh

Yeah, I asked myself that too. C’mon EW, put your love where your mouth is!

    • Emma

I was thinking that too! Was really looking forward to it but it’s nowhere to be found :(

  • Lily

As much as I love Community the real Scoobies will always be the Buffy cast.

    • D’s Advocate

For me the real Scoobies will always be…the Scooby-Doo characters. But hey, to each their own :)

    • willow

agreed Lily, since when have the community crew been the scoobies?

    • Casey

EXACTLY! The Scoobies are either Buffy and her peeps or the actual Scooby Gang. Honestly.

    • murley

thank you. how are they scoobies exactly? buffy and gang will always be the scoobies. plus, like the original scooby gang, they actually solved supernatural mysteries.

  • Jaysballs

YES!!! I’m like 6th!!!!!! Anyways, great episode last night. Where’s all the Tosh.0 love?

  • Jaysballs

    OR 7th and 8th!!!!!!!

  • Human Being

    mmmhhmmmmmmm

  • David T

I am in agreement with others – you cannot use Scoobies (or any variation of) to describe anyone other than the team on Buffy, and of course, Scooby Doo….Anything else, and well you dishonor them, and why, Aus, would you want to dishonor them (and the characters of Community) like that?

But, that brings up a good point, what do we call our merry, ragtag outfit on Community? Green(dale) Machine? Castaways (cuz they seem kind of similar to the Gilligan’s Island crew, with Jeff being the hipper, snarkier professor, but was that taken by Lost?), Culture Crew?, pophearts (because of all the pop culture references)?

    • dr2red

If we should not call them the Scoobies then we should call them the Schoolbies.

  • anonymous

And the show was doing so well until now. Kidding. I’ll give her a chance. Kat McPhee surprised me (I didn’t even know it was her until halfway through the show) and so Duff may too. Or my suspicions may prove correct. Either way I win!

  • Jessi36

Great! Now I have to modify my “Community” season pass so that episode doesn’t record. Don’t want to take up valuable DVR space on such a horrible casting choice. Blech!

    • @ Jessi

So you’re going to skip an episode of a show you like just to avoid a one-time guest star? How immature are you?

    • Brooke

I does seem kind of silly to do that. Most Arrested Developement fans agree that Martin Short was a horrible guest star and that episode is their least favorite. But there was comedy gold in other scenes and the B story.

  • Dave

I was very impressed with last night’s season premiere of Community. Very funny. I thought the first season was a bit too inconsistent, but season 2 is getting off to a great start (this is usually the form for any NBC comedy).
EW, why no recap for the premiere? Anyone catch the great jab at S*** My Dad Says? It was hilarious! And the way Britta said to Jeff, “high on my own DRAMA!?!?” LOL, perfect.

    • Liz

I love Community and am sad/happy (love BBT as well0 to see it was whupped in ratings by BBT. I hope some day they can both be equally successful shows especially since community is on NBC which is trigger happy with underperforming shows.

  • Adam

Ausiello, why exactly are you referring to them as the Scoobies? This isn’t Scooby Doo or Buffy. Are you going to start referring to every group of people in a TV show as “the Scoobies?” Seriously, sometimes you are so lame.

  • Viv

I thought she was busy with that new Eternal Knights movie…?
