Image Credit: Bill Matlock/FoxBad news for the campaign to save Fox’s critically-lauded drama Lone Star: The freshman series on Monday posted a 23% decline among adults 18-49 versus last week and only averaged 3.23 million viewers, down from its premiere audience of 4.1 million, according to preliminary results. The drama actually lost eyeballs in its second half-hour, from 3.57 million to 2.09 million. Ouch. It seems likely that Fox will make a decision on the series this week (like maybe a midseason relaunch?) One can only dream.
There’s just no use fighting the behemoth that is ABC’s Dancing with the Stars: The second performance night that featured a pretty disastrous performance by Michael Bolton (and some equally harsh words from judge Bruno Tonioli) lured 21.5 million viewers and helped ABC win the night among eyeballs and adults 18-49.
The night wasn’t much better for the second outing of NBC’s The Event, which was down 19% versus last week among adults 18-49. It averaged 8.9 million, down from last week’s 11.13 million.
CBS came in second for the night in viewers (11.1 million), followed by NBC (6.88 million), Fox (6.87 million), and The CW (1.87 million).

I am so sad to hear this! Could it be moved to a different network or time? I’d DVR it on any day or channel. I think it looks really interesting and really like all the lead actors!
That is the problem, people DVR shows instead of watching them live. Can not complaine too much when a show gets the axe when you don’t even what it live but whenever you want to without the ads.
watch not what.
That’s not true. Since they revised the ratings system as long as the DVR viewers view the show within 7 days it counts toward the ratings.
Yea sorry there Angie, while some of us enjoy the show, we have to DVR if we work nights.
Worst name ever for a TV show could be why it’s dead. Lone Star? Wasn’t that the fake Han Solo in Spaceballs?
Yeah, when you have kids sometimes you kind of have to dvr things or just miss them entirely.
How would they be able to count DVR views within 7 day on the day after the show was aired?
they need to relaunch it after american idol in the spring. or when dancing with the stars is over. its a great show.
First off let me say that I loved Lost and the constant guessing about what would come next, however the Event seems to be hap ahzardly put together, ( 3 weeks later, 18 months ago) what a bunch of crap! They are so hard to put together and get a feel for what is currently going on. I know that lost dod it as well, but at least with Lost you could tell what time frame it was by picking up clues from dialog, wardrobe and such. But with the Event all of the scenes seem to meld together. I swore that I would stick it through for a few more episodes but its getting harder to keep that commitment. And finally, the ads before last nights episode said that questions would be answered, like who they are, and where the plane went, while they did tell us those things, they never explained as much as they led us to believe they would.
It’s really that hard to put together? All that you need to know (so far) is that things are happening now, happend a few hours ago, happened a few days ago, or happened 13 months ago. They haven’t even started to really go back and forth between those time frames. Surely more people aren’t saying that The Event is ‘too confusing’, are they??
Here’s an idea … why doesn’t everyone stop comparing The Event to Lost and just view it as a whole new original show … which it is! There’s NOTHING confusing about The Event … they’re pretty much laying it out for viewers … and sure, it’s not groundbreaking by any means … but the first two hours have entertained me … and, really, at the end of a Monday, that’s all I want!
hah, just wrote another post to my original post and it didnt post (at least not yet). basically said the same thing you’re saying.
I agree with Dave – it’s not that confusing at all. I don’t get all the whining. The show is pretty entertaining, and I’m certainly intrigued enough to keep watching!
You’re right…it isn’t confusing. It is stupid. Having every scene require a “hey this happened at this time frame” is lazy writing.
They gave us more answers than I have EVER seen a serialized show of it’s kind give in episode 2.
I know where the airplane went, what happened to the passengers, why it disappeared, who the prisoners are, who took Leila, what the reason for her abduction was, and of course why Michael was flying that plane into the president.
I felt the episode was much better than the pilot and very satisfying, in both quality and answers. I am hooked.
I agree. I like that they are providing answers but I wish I had the same level of interest in the characters as I do the mysteries.
Ff this was a lost wannabe, it would have never told us what happened to all the people on the plane at the very end of the episode. We would have gotten an omg and matching face and an abrupt end of episode. I’m not enirely sure thats not what i was hoping for from the end of this episode but its interesting enough to keep me watching.
I love Lone Star, I’m sad to see that it’s not doing well.
This is one of the best new shows this year, and the pilot was outstanding! I hope it can be saved and that more people watch it!
sorry folks, but lone star is beyond dead. there is NO coming back from those ratings. fox will give it 1 more episode at most. but most likely, it’ll get canceled in a few days.
Bye, bye Lone Star.
PS: not sure I get the hype. I downloaded the first episode of Lone Star. What’s the big deal? Meh at best.
I just do NOT get why they scheduled Lone Star when they did. I’d watch it, but I’m watching The Event. Also, MANY watch DWTS. This made no sense.
The timeslot is not the problem. House is able to pull 10million against DWTS. Lone Star should be at least getting half the viewers from it’s lead but nobody is staying to watch it.
I’m just not interested in watching a show about a bigamist. It’s not an interesting concept to me.
That’s because FOX sold it wrong. Saying Lone Star is simply about a bigamist is like saying Prison Break was about a convict patiently awaiting his parole.
EXACTLY. Who in the world wants to watch a show about a con-artist cheating on his beautiful wife with another beautiful woman? What a lame idea for a show.
Yep.
U obviously did not grow up w/Dallas or Dynasty & they sure lasted a few years.
I did try to watch Lone Star, but his two women were so vapid and perfect-looking that I couldn’t bring myself to be interested in them. If they sold it more as a con artist show than as a guy with two really boring women in his life, then maybe it would be more interesting to me. Here’s an idea. How about a con artist who’s a really interesting, clever WOMAN who moves between two boring guys?
If those boring guys were hot then I would definitely watch that
This is exactly the reason why I decided not to watch. I might have given it a chance after people said the pilot was good but it had horrible ratings. I don’t have a nielsen box so it is no point in watching when it is about to cancelled.
I really think the premise put massive amounts of people off. I don’t want to root for the guy having his cake and eating it too.
I have watched neither Lone Star nor The Event and admit I have no interest in either one. IMO, viewers are burned out on extended mysteries that 9x out of 10 do not deliver (Lost), and all things considered re: the economy, who wants to watch a drama about some suave con man with two wives? What woman would want to watch that? Not me! And obviously I am not alone. Since it does seem to have supporters, maybe there is indeed more to Lone Star than that, but I never even made it past the promos.
Agree with you here. I loved Lost and was very consumed with it after episodes ended. I even think about it now from time to time.
But I’m not thinking about The Event once the show is over. I don’t even want to rewind some moments that probably do warrant a rewind.
Exactly, as a woman, I had no desire to see a man play 2 women. And as much as they say the lead is handsome, he’s not *that* handsome, not Josh Holloway charming. They had to know the grass roots campaign wasn’t going to get viewers to watch it if no one cared to see it the first time to begin with. People only win with petitions (like the Betty White facebook page) if people already care.
I am a woman and I not only watched Lone Star but really, really liked it. My mother, sister, and a couple of female friends also really enjoyed it so please don’t say things like “as a woman” and group us all together. Why are you concentrating on the fact that it is a MAN with 2 women? Also, do you really judge a show based upon how handsome the men are? Wow. And to Just Sayin’ maybe you would see that there is more to the show than a suave con man with two wives if it was given a chance. You have no idea what this show is going to turn into or what it’s really about. A lot of critically acclaimed shows unfortunately don’t get the most viewers, people would rather watch washed up “celebrities” dance. Whatever floats your boat I guess, also we still don’t know the DVR ratings for the show, which could be really high.
The Event was great….def left more questions but did answer some also….like where the plane ended up….the last minute was good……still don’t understand a good show like the Event or Lone Star cant do better than Two and Half Men which has the same jokes over and over in every episode…..
Lower common denominator.
Drop it already and give Human Target the slot.
Amen, Anna.
Right on! Human Target is fantastic and Mark Valley is a hottie!
I watched this live and recorded it and watched it again! I didn’t even watch the pilot, but I don’t want it to go. : ( I even got my mother to watch it, and she enjoyed it greatly and this is not her kind of show.
The show is going to get axed. This is what Fox does. It doesn’t know how to market its shows. It sticks its fingers in too much. And then it cancels it after two episodes. If the lead is lucky at all, he’ll have a break like Nathan F. and land on ABC. This isn’t exactly DWTS’ fault. The show was not marketed well. Watching a 10 second spot of a handsome guy in bed with two women or standing in a room is not a hook. The first five minutes was boring as pants and they put it on a night and channel on which it was going to have to fight anyway. The show was doomed for cancellation for months before it even aired. That was fairly easy to call.
