Anderson Cooper to host daytime talk show in Fall 2011

anderson-cooperImage Credit: Art Streiber/CNNAnderson Cooper is expanding his fiefdom. Warner Bros. Domestic TV announced today that the CNN anchor will host a new, one-hour daily daytime strip that’s set for national syndication in Fall 2011. At the same time, CNN put out its out statement saying that Cooper will remain with Anderson Cooper 360 for “years to come”  and that his new talk show will only boost his presence on cable.

“Over the course of the past few years, I’ve had the opportunity to work on a number of daytime programs,” Cooper said in a statement. “It’s fun and interesting to work in daytime television. The format is unique and you can really go in-depth on a wide range of fascinating and compelling stories. With this new program I hope to relay important information and relate to people and the audience in a completely different way.  It’s an exciting opportunity to show another side of myself and create something worthwhile and special in daytime.”

“There is a great opportunity in the marketplace for this type of show,” added Ken Werner, President, Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution, in a statement. “Fall ’11 begins a transition period when long established franchises are leaving the air and making way for a new generation of shows.  Anderson Cooper is one of the most distinctive voices of the next generation of television.  His popularity and skills uniquely position him to be the next big syndication franchise.”

Cooper’s show will cover social issues, trends and events, pop culture and celebrity, the studio says. He’ll also bring his news sense to daytime by launching undercover investigations and hidden camera experiments.  The show will feature a studio audience and tape in New York.

Daytime TV is useless. Who is at home watching TV at that time anyway? Most people are at work or school. Unless he’s going after to jobless/homemaker market which are usually watching children’s programs or trash tv like Maury and judge shows.

      I agree…

Thats an idiotic statement. I work nights as an RN and watch daytime television. I’m sure alot of employed intelligent people do. I’m equally sure alot of that so-called jobless/homemaker market include intelligent people who aren’t all watching trash tv like Maury and judge shows. I love Anderson Cooper and think he will be great at this.

I work retail hours and my partner works nights and 3rd shift at an IT firm. Are we useless? I would watch him on daytime TV.

      • Jamie

Which also indicates that you don’t have enough time to sleep, hence you’re not very smart. Looks like you’re spending all your time with shift jobs and TV, that explains a lot…

I love Anderson when he fills in on Regis and Kelly. I think he will do well. I would watch

Alot of us watch daytime tv. I love when Anderson co-hosts with Kelly and I love his 360 show. This should be great and I’ll be watching.

    • Chris

I know a lot of you watch. That’s why Maury gets high ratings. That’s why Anderson’s show will fail and Maury’s ratings will probably rise. Did you ever wonder why so many ITT Tech and Barber college commercials air during daytime and endless lawyer commercials asking “Did you get denied disability? Did you get injured in a car accident?….then call……

      • Sarah

How would you know? I guess you’re part of the jobless/homemaker market then.

  • Faith

I’ll be watching too. I’m retired and it’ll be a nice change from all the other talk shows that are on. Anderson is great on Regis and Kelly. I kind of thought he might be going to take Regis place when he retires. This is even better.

I never knew until today that Mr Cooper is gay-The best looking ones always seem to be-

  • DocRules

The only thing that could make this better would be the presence of Erica Hill.

    • JC

YES!! I completely agree – they were a fantastic duo!

PS I’ll be DVRing this show :)

  • Alex

Your statement is useless lots of people work nights or 3rd shift and we are intelligent, schooled individuals.

  • Jamie

Most people who have decent jobs and education work or go to school during the day time, so no they won’t be watching Anderson. They can only watch AC 360 for the news at night. You’re right Chris, most of the audience for Anderson will be homemakers, jobless and retired people who have more time in their hands.

I am that person that feels they are the “next-person” in which leads the “normal” life. I thank our heavenly father each day that I awake, “that-I-am-simply-part-of-his-day.” . . .I was awakened one night that will never leave my memory to an agonizing, bellowing, son —trying , trying desperately to tell the only people he knew ( at that horrible, pivoting moment) . . .HE had lost his son . . .I, racing, trembling ( yet trying to stay strong) felt I had just lost my grandson to a terrible DEATH . . . I HAD lost him ( It has been a DEATH from this moment) . . .but I lost this precious child to ” a fact” that he-was-not-MY-child’s-son . . .) He was my son’s (thought) friend’s son . . . . NO, this could not be! . . .We were there when this new birth came into this world for the first breath he took. I knew him for the first 12 months of his life . . . If I could not now be “a-part” of this baby’s life . . .I could not certainly have him on my hip when my own son walked through our door . . .I had to gauge MY OWN child’s feelings . . .I simply asked God to allow me to remain ” a lady” . . .for you see . . . someday He will know me, others know me as well . . .I pray God’s hand in this will place his hand on this beautiful child, to adolescent, to adult and he will have at least ( in thought) that his Grandfather and Grandmother “were” good, kind, Christian and well-thought of folks . . .I miss you my sweet, sweet grandson . . .

I love Anderson Cooper. I too wish his show were on later. He would be be catering to a more mature audience then. Wouldn’t have to water down his subject matter. Have more freedom/hence a more interesting/diversified show.
