'HIMYM' Exclusive: Kyle MacLachlan to play [spoiler]!

jennifer-morrison-machlachlanImage Credit: Charles Norfleet/PR Photos; Tina Gill/PR PhotosKyle MacLachlan is the mother!!!

Sorry, couldn’t resist. All kidding aside, the ex-Desperate Housewives hubby may have a major connection to How I Met Your Mother‘s titular mama. Details below…

Sources confirm to me exclusively that MacLachlan is set to appear in at least two episodes of the CBS comedy as the ex-husband of Jennifer Morrison’s Ted-crushing architecture buff, Zoey—a character who may or may not turn out to be you-know-who.

Morrison’s first episode airs Oct. 18, while MacLachlan is set to debut in early November.

I just hate that Jennifer Morrison will be on HIMYM! She better not be “the” Mother

    • BlahBlah

      Totally agreed! Hate her.

      • Jo

@BlahBlah. You hate JM? OK. Why won’t you give a clear, reasonable explanation on why you hate her?

      • Liz

Do you even know her, BlahBlah? Ugh. Pathetic fangirl. STFU.

      • kate

She was my least favorite thing about House. But won’t it take us like two seconds to find out if she is the mother or not because her and Ted would figure out pretty quickly that they both know Cindy. And Ted said in the first episode this season that he met the mother at that wedding didn’t he?

      • ribenren

I love this , So does My boyfriend .he is almost 11year older than me .i met him via age’lessmate.c’om a nice place for seeking age le ss love.which gives you a chance to make your life better and open opportunities for you to meet the attractive young girls and treat you like a king. Maybe you wanna check it out or tell your friends..

      • MJ

FYI…She is acting on House, not beeing herself…wake up and get a clue.

    • Jo

@Jessica. You haven’t even seen her play the role, so how do you know that you’ll hate her?

    • Jimmy

I dont like her either. I would of loved someone else. heres hoping shes not the mother

      • AJ

        “would have” not “would of”

    • pete

LOL – let me guess, bitter, bitter Huddy hating because HIMYM beat House in the ratings this week.

Jen’s cute, & she was great in Trek – bring it on.

      • JenJen

I don’t like Jen Mo because I never, in anything I’ve seen her in, thought she was a good actress. She had five minutes in Trek…I cared more about the ship than I did her. I loved the movie but didn’t care, one way or the other, about Jen.
I love House but HIMYM prob beat House because House just sucks right now. Huddy is bringing it down…and I was never a Hameron either.

So,will this show be over then, when they finally reveal who “the mother’ really is?
Or will ‘the mother’ then join the gang, and fun ensues?
And then the show will add exploring Ted and Mom’s relationship, and all that?
I hope so, cause this show is too funny and too good just to end with “the mother” reveal.
(I don’t think it’s so much of “who” the mother is in terms of what actress (I think an unknown is best) but rather “how” she is revealed. How the romance happens, begins, etc.

  • Heidi

Yeah, couldn’t they find someone better?!

    • april-ann

I think the mother should be played by Sarah Lancaster. I can see her having chemistry with Ted. She’s already on a tv show I think Chuck. I liked her as Marjorie on What About Brian.

      • alex

sarah lancaster would be PERFECT she is so sweet and bubbly!

      • Catarina

She is perfect on Chuck! Gotta love her!

    • Jo

@Heidi. Obviously everyone connected to the show thought she was the best choice.

    • m.

      I’m 96.7% sure, she isn’t the mother.

  • Ncdrew

How old is he? He seems too old to be her former husband, particularly if she ends up being “the mother.” Plus we know that Ted’s wife-to-be was in the first class that he started to teach at Columbia (until he realized he was in the wrong room). We also know she’s Cindy’s roommate so I think Jennifer Morrison will not be the mother.

    • KM

It’s not Cindy’s roommate. In the episode 2 weeks ago, Cindy hooked up with and eventually married her roommate.

      • MDEP

Did she ever say that was her roommate, or did Ted just assume she was?

      • Mike

We never got confirmation that it was her roommate that she hooked up with….

      • Vince from NYC

Yea, that was a different friend not the roomate. The roomate os definatley the mother though. I caught the first Bilson ep again on re-runs..

      • V

It is Cindy’s roommate…who might not be her roommate anymore…

    • Brian

      He’s 51, Morrison is 31. a reasonable age difference for a couple

      • Hypnogal

Reasonable? He’s old enough to be her father! Leave it to a guy to make a comment like that…

      • Catarina

        EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!
        Gross

      • AuntieD

remember the formula? Guy’s age divided by 2, plus 7

        51 /2 = 25 + 7 = 32

So it’s okay (according to Barney)

    • Tami

Totally thought he was gonna be her DAD- so maybe Ted’s father-in-law!

  • Just Me Again

I’ve always liked Kyle MacLaclan. Can’t wait to see him on HIMYM.

    • Snsetblaze

He may be Morrison’s character’s father. Does this mean he is off Desperate Housewives?

      • Brian

Read the article again, it states ‘her ex-husband’.

  • Doris

I love Kyle MacLachlan, and I love HIMYM, so the combination is one that I’m really looking forward to.

    • Angie

      Alrighty. :)

      • Janet

Hah, clever tie in, Angie. Love the reference.

      • AuntieD

        too funny!

  • gah

i would hate if the mother ended up being someone who was previously married. i feel like it should be someone who kinda was waiting for ted all their life.

    • Aliasnews

yeah, like Ted was waiting for her all his life.. oh.. wait

      • Vince from NYC

I think gah meant waiting to get married, not waiting waiting to you know.. These people are in their 30′s and live NYC, not some midwest christian town. I don’t think the virgin thing would be on anybody’s mind.

      • gah

yes thats what i meant. thank vince from nyc.

      • gah

        er, thanks.

    • FLGrl

      I actually totally agree.

  • David

She is not the mother in a million years :P uuuggghhh She is always into those old dudes.

  • Sam

I still hope it turns out to be Stella.

    • Mike

How could Stella, who is married be with a kid living in a different state be Cindy’s roommate?

      • Mike

I should really proof read this stuff before I hit post….meh

  • Sam

HIMYM really has a heart for all those fired losers

  • Robinson

We now know that Ted met the mother at a wedding. Unless he meets Jennifer Morrison at a wedding (and even then, they made it look like it was a wedding where he was best man), how can they suggest her as a possibility?

    • Rachel

and I’m pretty sure this blog already reported they’ll meet while she’s protesting the new GNB building construction. (so, not a wedding – so, not the mama)

  • woop

i hope she’s the mom. i like km. maybe he’ll be creepy like he was in blue velvet and twin peaks.

  • Caiti

She’s not the mom. HIMYM is distracting us with her, and IMO when Barney and Robin get married at the end of the season, he meets the real mom. (ALSO SHE IS BLOND, TED MARRIES A BRUNETTE)

    • Jo

@Caiti. Ever hear of hair coloring, weaving?

    • b

Wait, when did we learn that the mom is brunette?

We’ve seen flashes to fantasies of Ted’s wedding, where the “bride” may have been brunette, but I don’t think we’ve ever seen the real mother’s hair color.

      • Brody

I think that’s an assumption based on the fact that when Ted almost married Stella (who is blonde), the kids they showed were also blonde. So, theoretically (although the logic is obviously flawed), brunette kids = brunette mom.

      • Caiti

yes, that is where I got the assumption. Also, if the mother were ‘recently’ divorced, would she have been living with Rachel Bilson for at least a year? Or long enough for her to develop a complex about her success in the dating world…

  • Julie

I bet KM is her father, not her ex husband

    • Brian

And Vegas will be very happy to take all your money!1

    • Tim

I bet KM is the mother

  • Mike

I am thinking and HOPING that it will be Ashley Williams coming back as Victoria as the mom….

    • Mike

      @Caiti and she’s a brunette :)

    • Marc

I would also hope that it was Victoria, but Ted would have noticed her in the mistaken Architecture class. She wasn’t there, but the “Mom” was.

      • Mike

Good point, but maybe they can explain that away……

  • J

Sorry, no offense because I know it happens to a great many people, but having “the” mother come out of a divorced relationship to the be the “one” for Ted would kind of take the romance out of it.

    • pop

      yup.

      • katie

@ MIKE – yes! i totally hope it’s victoria – she has always been my favorite with ted.
