'Running Wilde' Exclusive: 'Sopranos' vet Drea de Matteo to play... Will Arnett's mom!

Running Wilde has tapped ex-Desperate Housewives star (and onetime Sopranos vet) Drea de Matteo to play the potentially recurring role of Didi, the randy stepmother of Will Arnett’s Steve Wilde.

The key word I shamelessly omitted from the headline was step!

Didi comes to the Wilde estate on behalf of Steve’s never-before-seen dad to rein in his monetary expenditures—on the same day Steve decides to fund Emmy’s (Keri Russell) nonprofit organization.

De Matteo’s episode of Wilde—which I’m really hoping finds its creative footing soon—is slated to air next month.

Drea’s getting a bit worn around the edges. She almost looks old enough to play his mom. I guess getting shot out in the pine barrens will do that to a girl.

Oh Ausiello you sly devil you. Misleading us like that.
Is this what it’s come to? Shameless!

  • Cris

I really hope this show becomes worthy of its leading actors. I love Will Arnett and I really WANT to like this show. I’m seeing glimpses of creativity and humor at times, but not enough. Here’s hoping it finds its direction and becomes a decent comedy series.

The 3rd episode was a HUGE improvement…some ways to go still, as always, but I found myself belly laughing the whole show. I’m sticking with it for sure now.

  • M&M

I love it! I hope she is the trashiest Gold Digger to have ever grace us with her beauty on tv!!!

  • mal

what? this awful comedy will get the axe any day now…run, Drea, run!

  • I’d rather give to TBA again!

I am a huge AD fan (see my username) but I agree that this show is a letdown. I do love love LOVE Drea!!!!

It is dreadful, but I refuse to believe that any project with Mitch & Will can stay bad so I’m hanging in there and hoping to see it turn around SOON.

2nd ep is a huge improvement on the 1st. I hope it continues in that direction; especially in episode 3. If this coming ep doesn’t significantly improve from last weeks I tuning out.

Ausiello, you’re an ass. How’bout tring NOT to mislead readers?

    • Brian

      Are you gonna be okay?

  • David4

The show is as good as dead, so this will not be a recurring gig.

  • Pulpo

I´ll give it until episode four.
It has potential, yet hasn´t delivered yet

  • Christian

Who cares? Not like this show will be on long enough for her episode to come on. I wouldn’t be surprised if this page has more views than the actual show!

  • Yrto

This show is a let down, Raising Hope is much better.

  • stef

Has anyone seen the third episode? It was muuuuch better and I found it very funny. It can take a new show sometime to find its pace and I have hopes for Running Wilde. I mean, with this kind of cast and writer, come on!

    • JLC

Agreed. The plot of the third ep was so convoluted and silly, it allowed some of the old AD anarchy to sneak in. Massive improvement over the previous week.

  • Tego Livi

This show has a central flaw: Will Arnett is NOT a leading man. He can be funny in small doses, but Running Wilde is an enormous mess, and he’s the biggest problem. I get the impression they got a cast then struggled to come up with a story to fit. They failed, though.

    • Bren

Arnett annoys me to no end. I’d love to punch him in that smug-looking face, and pull out his hair plugs.

    What would Christophuh think?
