Exclusive: 'Big Love' activates Terminator Robert Patrick for major arc

robert-patrickImage Credit: Chris Hatcher/PR PhotosBig Love just got a little bigger: Onetime Terminator Robert Patrick has just signed on to appear in multiple episodes of the show’s upcoming fifth season.

The actor, probably second-best-known for his stint as David Duchovny’s X-Files replacement, will play Bud Mayberry, the leader of a polygamist fringe group. Which, to my thinking, means one thing: Bill (Bill Paxton) is gonna have his hands full, what with 24 baddie Gregory Itzin also on board as the Republican leader of the Utah State Senate.

What do you think? Good hire? Is this another sign that season 5 will probably be better than season 4? Hit the comments!

It can’t be worse than True Blood

TRUE BLOOD has been the BEST show on HBO for the last three years, I LOVE BIG LOVE too…Any idea when season five is coming up for BL?

      I agree!

I don’t watch the show, but good for them, getting RP on board. Big fan.I love when he shows up on any of my shows (Sopranos, Lost. And the last two seasons of X-Files are actually really good, taken on their own; that’s when I first realized how great RP is).

    • Peter

      Oh, yeah, Burn Notice, too.

    • Bella

      And NCIS

    • maiv

      And Law and Order SVU

      And The Unit

Good News i love this show and i love R.P.

  • Buffy Freak

I’m not concerned about guest stars…I want the writers to get this show back on track. It was a real chore to watch last season.

    • Karate Pants

It really was. Let’s not have goofy hijinx take over what used to be a fantastic tv drama.

    • Lee

I completely agree with your post, Buffy Freak. Forget about guest stars–hire better writers. At some point, I gave up watching BL during season 4. It lost my interest. Maybe this show has run its course. Same with Breaking Bad and Weeds. I gave up watching those shows too because they seemed repetitive–nothing new or original. Just like BL.

  • TQB

Good for him – I was sad that his appearance on Burn Notice (appears) to have been so brief; he made an excellent bad dude.

  • Josh

I’m also hoping they keep it small. Last season was a mess, it focused more on plot twists than it did on the family. People watch the show for the family not the crazy, at times inane, twists.

  • VNova

I love Robert Patrick but not too crazy about the show Big Love – can’t stand those wives. RP may just get me to tune in. Maybe his wives will be more interesting.

  • April

Awesome! Love RP — I really feel he was the best thing about the (otherwise dismal) last two seasons of X-Files. I haven’t watched Big Love in ages, but I might come back just for him.

  • AuntieD

IMO, Harry Dean Stanton (Roman) was the best character/actor on the show. Even when the character was dead, the actor shone larger than life. Dunno, think he’s really gone this season?

  • Brittany

I’ll watch Robert Patrick in anything.

  • BeeZy

You guys are forgetting his Great turn as Colonel Tom Ryan on the Unit! Come on man!

  • jj

Love Big Love. All but last season.

  • Willmore

    Robeeeeeeeeeeeeeeert!!
This dude is so good!! And has a sexy voice!!

  • Maria

RP is an awesome actor. I hope Big Love gets back to being a great show again, too.

  • Vanny

Still my favorite Terminator, and I did enjoy him in the x-files – in Fact, he was the reason I felt renewed interest in the x-files. But anyway, have always loved Robert Patrick.
