Image Credit: DiscoveryLooks like the Deadliest Catch captains who recently quit over a legal dispute with Discovery are staying put on the reality show that’ll begin production next week in Alaska. Discovery released this statement on behalf of Captains Sig Hansen and Johnathan and Andy Hillstrand today: “We’re happy we worked everything out with Discovery. A deal’s a deal. We’re heading up to Dutch Harbor to start filming the new season of Deadliest Catch and hopefully it will be the best one yet.”
The Hillstrands added: “Everyone worked really hard on putting together Hillstranded and we’re looking forward to wrapping that up. It’s something new that we hope people will enjoy.”
Just last week, the Hillstrands announced plans to leave the show after they were sued by Discovery over their involvement in a Catch spinoff. Discovery reportedly claimed the brothers failed to finish work on Hillstranded and were seeking $3 million in damages. An attorney for the Hillstrands shot back by saying the lawsuit would have forced the men to sell their boats and fire their crews so they quit the show. Hansen decided to show solidarity for his fellow captains and backed the Hillstrands.

I’m glad they worked it out. I also think it was cool of Sig to back the brothers. Is Sig still scheduled for Dancing with the Stars? Because I’ll watch for him.
I never would’ve let Discovery issue a statement on “my behalf” that has the words “a deal’s a deal.”

Smart move Discovery. I think a lot of fans, including me, would not have watched this season without these Captains. I wouldn’t have watched to just to support them. Love Capt. Sig!!

I think this is a case where the viewers backed the guys against Discovery and they realized they’d lose a load of money this season if neither the TB or the Northwestersn were on the show.
Thank goodness! Glad they worked out their differences.
I wonder how much leverage the suit gave the captains in their future negotiations considering Discovery was claiming a $3million cost for losing out on one special, when the boats only get $75k each season.

This is the VERY best news all week! I don’t care if they quit to try to get more money (which is what it looks like) the show wouldn’t have been the same without! Full pots and safe fishing!
So the Hillstrands finally came to their senses and realized they didn’t have a legal leg to stand on. Also that without DC they’d go back to being just a couple of crabbers with no endorsements, no personal appearances, no horny groupies, and no more celebrity. I guess that was enough for them to tuck tail and seek forgiveness. I’m surprised Discovery took them back.
Let me guess…you’re that really annoying person who sits in the movie theatre and points out all the technical inaccuracies of a sci-fi movie to the rest of the audience, aren’t you? My guess is you were bottle-fed, not breast-fed.

I am glad that the world is starting to recognize that the little guy. The unsung heroes are ok people to be. Hollywood isn’t real and this is. So these Captains and their crews are the real “Stars” in my books. Stop being so mean.
These people have been crab fisherman for generations. Discovery Networks can come and go a dozen times, and it will never alter than simple fact. The network needs them WAY more than they need to be on TV.
Apparently, behind all the bluster, it was really just a contract renegotiation. Discovery (“The Man”) tried to play hardball, and lost – spectacularly. Good for the fishermen. Nothing wrong with wanting to be paid what you’re worth.
Thank goodness it’s all worked out. Deadliest is one of my favs. Wouldn’t have been same without them. Thanks captains!!!!!
Let’s but this another way. Because of all of writing to discovery that they would be losing the best show on tv that’s what got the guys back. US the people that love this stuff. I thank all the people that wrote in and had a voice in the outcome of the show. Thank you.
One more thing….Sig you are the coolest, I really admire you no matter what everyone else says (lol)
Best show ever. Glad Captain Sig is back. I would not have watched without Sig.
