Exclusive: A&E's 'Breakout Kings' poised to revive 'Prison Break' baddie

breakout-kingsImage Credit: Michael Caulfield/WireImage.comTalk about a no-brainer: Former Prison Break producers Matt Olmstead and Nick Santora are courting Robert Knepper to appear in their new A&E fugitive-themed drama Breakout Kings. The best part? The plan is for Knepper to resurrect his classic PB convict T-Bag!

According to sources, execs at 20th Century Fox — the studio behind Prison and Kings — have signed off on the crossover. Now a deal just needs to be hammered out with Knepper, whose killer PB alter ego was sent back to the slammer in the show’s series finale.

Kings, which is described as an “action-packed ensemble drama following an unconventional partnership between the U.S. Marshals’ office and a group of convicts as they work to catch fugitives on the run,” received an 11th hour reprieve last spring from A&E after Fox opted not to pick it up. It’s set to premiere in early 2011.

    “original” series? hahahah!
more like they saw how well White Collar was doing on USA and said “hey! lets do the same thing but with all the other types of criminals. no one will notice we copied!”

    • Jake

      My thoughts exactly.

        S c o t t says, “Time and tide wait for no man.” I think ” F a t e and l ov e wait for no one!” So I recently joined a ice platfom ***** HotBl ackwhite.c000 m ***** to find my tr-ue LO-VE….Im lucky!! It is destined that you can also m-e-et your lo-v-e…..GO and have a try….. :D :D
        ozzzzzzzz

It could be argued that White Collar is just a rip off of Leverage with a law enforcement agency involved. Although the idea of criminals turning into “good guys” isn’t a new concept.

      • kurometarikku

I always thought Leverage was just a copy of Hustle without as many British accents.

      • Alicia

Pretty much everything is just a ripoff of something else. Nothing is original sadly. :\

    • Finns

I hope this isn’t like White Collar! That show is terrible!

      • Doris

You’re a man, right? We women would watch just to see gorgeous Matt Bomer! And Willie Garson is amazing! But it’s a doggone good show–one of my summer favorites (along with Leverage).
I would watch this show if they get Robert Knepper for it.

      • @Doris

Wow, way to embarass women everywhere. Some of us women-folk aren’t sucked into a show just because the lead is good-looking. Please in the future refrain from generalizing about what “we women” would do. Thanks.

I am the FIrst and only Real Jersey Jeff.

    • john

i bet your mom is proud too

as creepy/sociopathic as the character of TBag was, RK was FANTASTIC – he absolutely made me believe all of the horrible things TBag did. I would watch this show just to see him.

  • Justin

    Ugh T-Bag is so hot!!!

  • Mary

Robert Knepper is a great actor- he played t-bag so well I still get creeped out when I see him.

  • brandy

Seriously, every character I’ve ever seen this guy play have been exactly like T-Bag. I guess this is a good idea then?

    • Doris

Actually the first time I saw him was as a young doctor bonded to Deanna Troi in the first season of Star Trek: TNG. He was a very good guy!

    • lostwithsawyer

Guess you haven’t seen him in Carnivale as Tommy Dolan then. He’s an extremely talented actor that has more range than just “T-Bag”

      • Doris

Yes, he was excellent in Carnivale. He was also the villain in the very first Law & Order: Criminal Intent.

  • Dan

Wasn’t this dude on Chase last week?

    • Resu

Yes, and he’s currently on Stargate Universe.

  • Ryan

yeah he pretty much only plays psychos now. He’s good at it. Too bad BK wasn’t developed as a spinoff from the start. I thought from the start that having Michael and Sucre on the team would have been awesome!

    • Angel

That would be hard since Michael died in the finale.

      • cathy

When has something like death ever mattered in television. I agree, bring Michael on board also, and I’d be very happy.

      • Alicia

Michael could always make a cameo in the new AMC show, The Walking Dead where Sarah Wayne Callies is. That zombie/human reunion would rock. lol

  • jrs

Count me in as a viewer. RK totally rocked in his role as T-Bag. The guy totally brought it every time he was on screen.

    • Shana

He was the only reason I continued to watch the show.

  • jmag

That is a greaaaat idea. Great character

  • DB

YET another show about U.S. Marshals…
I’m only watching the one with Timothy Olyphant, when is Justified coming back?

  • Vanny

Love Robert Knepper – Good for him.

  • Ann Wortham

Actually, they are simply continuing the theme that Prison Break pursued in its last season. So if they are “ripping” anyone off, it would be themselves. I liked that last season with the band of criminals working with law enforcement.

  • Ionut

Can’t wait to see T-bag back in action. I love Prison Break and I hope that the other characters from the show will appear in Breakout Kings.

  • d

I love prison break and t bag was such a good character on the show. Robert Knepper is a great actor, I would also love to see more PB actors on the show.
