Exclusive: 'Lost' boys developing top secret project

Tags: , , News, Scoop

lindelof-horowitz-kitsisImage Credit: Marcia Campbell Photography/FilmMagic.comIn what is sure to be one of the hottest properties of the rapidly approaching pilot season, former Lost executive producers Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz are developing a fairy-tale-themed drama series. Oh, and they’re getting a little help from—stop me if you’ve heard of this guy—Damon Freakin’ Lindelof!

Here’s what I know right this second…

Kitsis and Horowitz are getting ready to pitch the project to ABC Studios, where the two currently have an overall deal. If it gets a green light, Lindelof—who also has a deal at ABC—will serve as a consultant.

So what is this thing? Good question. The only additional intel I’ve been able to glean from my sources is that it will have a female lead. (Paging Sarah Michelle Gellar… )

Based on the pedigree alone, I’m going to declare it the breakout hit of the 2011-12 TV season.

Go ahead, I won’t be watching.

    • fd

Yup, I won’t be watching either. Lost was bad enough, now their horrible producers have to come out and make something else?

      • Jack

Right, what we need is more:

        cop shows
        medical dramas
        lawyer shows

        How dare they?!

      • Voodoo

@ Jack Actually we do. Good ones that is.

      • martina

@Jack. We don’t need another Lost-like fiasco, either.

      • ann

It’s okay guys – ABC will just cancel it anyway.

      • @ann

        Word.

      • tommy

“Yup, I won’t be watching either. Lost was bad enough”
        Thats amusing….and dim-witted.

    • Larry David

Stick to you ‘Dancing with old has-beens’ and your ‘CS_BORING’ shows. Fact is this is something new and seems like an original, yet risky idea. I’ll be watching because I want shows that challenge me and bring something new to the table.

    • bruno

me either. i’m sure the ending will end up sucking.

      • kgb

        Just like you.

    • Liz

Yea, I feel like I was burned by Lost and I’m not eager to waste 6 more years of my life on some rubbish “mythology” that really wasn’t.

      • Mary in Dallas

I find it funny when people say the “wasted six years of their life” because the didn’t like the finale of “Lost.” If that was your entire life for six years, yes, you did waste it, but in reality, you really wasted one hour a week for about six months each year.

      • Person Who Talks

All these people who hated the ending of LOST are really starting to get on my nerves. We get it: You are not emotionally mature enough to understand the depth behind the show’s overarching themes, you didn’t get why the polar bears were there (even thought it was laid out fairly simply) and you wanted a scientific explanation to every single question. Well I’m sorry Darlton didn’t stoop down to your level. You dont finish Harry Potter and say, “Well that was dumb. How the f*ck can wizards do magic?”. And you don’t watch Star Wars and say, “OK they did not explain how their galactic society became that advanced and I still have no idea what the Force is, so I just wasted two hours of my life!” Enjoy LOST for the emotional, inspiring piece of television art it was or stop complaing

      • Joe

While I can understand not liking the ending at all, I do not get why some of you guys say you “wasted 6 years of your life”. Does the last episode, or the last season in general, really ruin all that came before it? In my estimation the show had 4 or 5 really great years, and I’ve always been a firm believer in the “journey is more fun than the destination” mantra. I just don’t get it, one episode doesn’t take back all of the great moments the show had. Get the hell over it.

      • Casey

I agree with Joe and Person Who Talks. Just because you didn’t like the ending it invalidates everything great that came out of Lost? That’s BS.

      • Minesa99

We’re you expecting the answers to the meaning of life or something, Liz?

Some people were expecting way to much for the finale.

      • REASON

Each side of the fence goes way too far. Too say that “Lost” wasted 6 years of your life is a bit dramatic. Was it an abusive marriage? Was it a senseless war? A little perspective is needed. But for others to call those who didn’t enjoy the finale stupid or not emotionally mature enough to understand it is also ridiculous and pretentious. The ending was a very spiritual experience for myself, but I understand that this spiritual aspect did not go over well with others. Much like the characters in the show, viewers were often divided by the faith vs. science argument that the show presented. Ultimately, the show sided with faith, and chose to focus on the characters and not all scientific explanations were given. So, if you think about it, this divide among Lost watchers was planned from the beginning.

      • steve

I agree with Reason (Ha). I didn’t like the ending… so that means I’m not emotionally mature enough to understand the depth behind the show? get real. i don’t say i wasted 6 years of my life, and i’ve long since gotten over my disappointment, but people are allowed to have differing opinions on television programming. unless i missed a memo or something.

      • llisa

enough hard core LOST fans feel ripped off to PROVE you can’t say it ended well.

    • IMPEACH OBAMA

Fairy tale? You mean like the criminal One-Termer’s claim of change? Hah! What a crock that was! Vote Republican in two weeks and take our nation back!

      • BonBon

I think by fairy tale they actually mean based on stories that Christine O’Donnell told her “witch children”.

      • Jessica

Take it outside, kids. The grown ups are talking.

    • kgb

You may not be watching, but there will be plenty that will, me included. You will initially not watch, and then here how good it is and secretly watch it on DVD, loser.

    • Meli

I will. Damon is great – and his writing is phenomenal. If he’s involved, I’ll check it out. Don’t be a dolt – they guy is brilliant.

  • Chris

Sometimes you really are an ass-kiss, Ausiello.

    • DD

And sometimes you really are an ass, Chris.

      • Chris

That may be true, but it doesn’t invalidate my point.

      • bruno

got chris’s back on this one.

      • Becca

        lol chris FTW

    • Ryan

Sometimes? Don’t you mean all the time?

  • fd

It’s going to suck just like Lost did.

    • eatme

      @fd
Nah, your mom does all the sucking around here. If only you could have gotten as much love as I am getting now from your mom’s mouth. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

      • Voodoo

        Wow. How sad.

      • Ashley G.

gross, and LOST was an amazing show, people just don’t appreciate the show as a whole and judge it on one episode, I personally loved every minute of the finale. I will definately tune in for this new show

    • Kate

Looks like fd needs to get a life.

    • Nila

By suck, you mean “best show in the history of televison.” Clearly.

      • Klute

No, he’s obviously referring to the irrefutable equation: Lost Season 6 = suck.

      • Nila

Or maybe People Who Complain About Season 6=Too Bad, So Sad, Lots Of People Think It Rocked.

  • Flip

I won’t be fooled by the Lost producers again.

    • James

By fooled do you mean that they are too smart for you? Or is it that you can’t understand that they would end the show on the same theme it had throughout the entire series?

      • Flip

Nope, I won’t be tricked into watching a show that creates an intricate mythology and then doesn’t resolve ANY of the questions related to said mythology.

      • @Flip

…except that it did resolve at least some of the questions related to the mythology. You must not have been paying very close attention.

    • kgb

Are you sure you were watching LOST and not American Id(i)o(l)t? LOST answered almost all of the mythology, name 3 questions that were not answered.

      • Dgently

        1. What was the sickness? 2. Why did pregnant woman and their fetuses die in, I think, the beginning of the first trimester. 3. Walt

      • joanne

        to Dgently:

1 – ok, you’re right about this one. i too was annoyed that they never explained the sickness.

2 – because of the electromagnetism. it was explained in the 12-minute epilogue on the season 6 dvd.

3 – well, we can’t really blame the writers for the fact that the actor grew up too quickly. besides, the Walt issue was also addressed in the dvd epilogue.

      • Person Who Talks

That was the whole point of some of these mysteries, so we could figure them out on our own! 1. After “This Place is Death”, we could assume that Smokey took the form of Montand at some point and a pregnant, paranoid Rosseau thought that everyone had been “infected” (taken possesion of by MIB). There was no “sickness”. They made it pretty clear that Rosseau had gone slightly insane. 2. Once again, they didn’t spell it out (until the epilouge that is), but it would be safe to assume that such a large amount of radiation caused by an H-Bomb going off right next to a pocket of electromagnetic energy would cause things, including pregnancy, to get f*cked up. 3. Ok I can kindof see your point on this one, but if you’re gonna complain about Walt why not ask how Hurley and Miles could communicate with the dead. Walt was special; thats all we need to know. An exact, scientific explanation of everything would take the fun out of it.

      • Dgently

Hey, Person and Joanne: My beef with the nuclear radiation poisioning causing deaths of moms/babies is the following: It’s too pat. As with other sicknesses, it’s my understanding that radiation poisoning would affect different people in different ways. Some women wouldn’t be able to get pregant. Some would loose their babies. Some would give birth to deformed children. But I can’t buy a blanket “radiation poisoning made all these seemingly healthy women and their fetuses die at the exact same point in the second trimester.” And as for the sickeness…totally see your point about Rousseau. But what about Claire and Sayid?

  • famousamy

    Bah to the haters!

Can’t wait to see what they come up with.

    • Se

      Agreed!!!

      • Jason

What a shame that so many people are so unintelligent as to be unable to appreciate Lost for what it was. I guess that explains Jersey Shore. I can’t wait to see what these guys have coming down the road!

      • Casey

Just because someone hated Lost doesn’t mean they were “so unintelligent.” I personally loved the show but understand why some people didn’t care for it.

      • viddingwithkyle

Wow Jason you really are a snob. If you don’t like Lost, you’re stupid. Right, cause everyone wants to get involved in a show where they can’t miss a single episode.

      • Dgently

@Jason: So if you think lost tanked in final season, you’re stupid? Tell you what, bud, let’s compare reading lists for the last year as a way to determine our relative IQs.

      • Jason

        DGently, anywhere, anytime.
Let me guess – college student who thinks he knows everything?

Every person I know who outright bashes Lost with nothing more than “it was stupid” has proven themselves unintelligent. I have yet to hear a cognizant, well thought out, INTELLIGENT argument for why the show was not amongst the greatest shows in the history of the medium. “I didn’t like it” or “it was stupid” or, even better, “I didn’t get it” don’t count as reasonable arguments.

I’m sure you’re a genius, Dgently. Glad you’re proud of it.

      • Topanga

        Completely agree!

      • DGH

        DGENTLY:
Gets the douche bag of the day award anyone you would like to thank!!!!!!!

      • Maricela

False. With a show like BSG, which is the BEST television I have ever seen and I watch a lot, my expectations are very high. And for me, Lost didn’t cut it.

      • Jason

BSG was great — until the last season. THAT was a show that tanked it in the end. They forgot what made the show great in its first seasons.

      • KebertXela

@Jason-blanket statements are pretty unintelligent, too.

I didn’t care for the Season Finale of Lost, either. I’m quite sure that my intelligence isn’t in question because I didn’t care how they ended a television series.

The finale was a cop-out. They went for the emotional nerve versus the intellectual one, and that’s fine. I personally think the the show lost steam when Brian K Vaughn took over and Paul Dini left. Right around the end of season 3 and beginning of 4 is when the whole story got silly with conspiracies and para militarty commandoes running around.

I appreciated the fact that they tried to thread it all together, but I think overall it fell flat.

That doesn’t mean I hate the whole show. I just didn’t care for the way it ended.

      • Dgently

@Jason. No, I’m not a college student, and I understand that there is much I don’t know. I do know the following. You and others like you on the boards feel that if someone dislikes the last season of Lost, they are, in your words, unintelligent. I never have, and never would, start a thread by saying, “If you liked Lost, you’re a moron.” But there seems to be a converse on these boards…Anyone who dislikes the last season of Lost is trashed as being dumb, emotionally immature, or incapable of liking a show that has to do with faith. That’s what makes me so angry. I posted a long post in the first of Jeff Jenson’s wrap-up columns explaining, point by point, why I thought Lost failed in the Sixth Season. You’re welcome to look it up.

  • Will

I can´t wait!I will see.Lost IS the best tv show ever. “The End” was incredible!

    • MEL

      HELL YEAH!

    • Frank

      heloo

  • Franco

I find it hilarious when on person changes their login name and says the same stuff over and over again

    • Se

Haha, I just looked back at the times they were posted and you’re completely right. Definitely the same person.

  • Simon

Well … in the hope of getting some positivity in these comments, I think this news is pretty freaking awesome. Looking forward to it.

  • Amanda

I admit when I read Lost producers I thought you meant Team Darlton would be back together on a project, still this is good news and I will watch.

  • Will

I find it hilarious when on person changes their login name and says the same stuff over and over again [2]

    • Voodoo

      Like you?

  • Reagan

    Trolls

  • Liz

YAY! I can’t wait! I am a huge fan of LOST and loved the end. So I’ve got to check it out (if it even gets developed).

  • Melissa

Wow, what’s with all the negativity? While I doubt any new show will ever live up to LOST for me, I’m definitely interested in checking out anything they put together.

  • dryedmangoez

Gosh, not everything from them is guaranteed gold. Let’s wait to actually see A PREMISE before we make bold pronouncements.

  • John Doe

Hey FD, my guess is you are not a religious person and have know idea what faith means. If you did, I think you would have liked lost. I bet you got yourself so wrapped up in “will they answer this” type questions that you lost sight of the big picture.

    • Jacob

I’m not religious and I loved LOST. The ending wasn’t religious at all. It didn’t take a stance on Christianity, Buddhism, Islam or any of the other ones.

It was very much more spiritual than anything. Religion is for retards and zealots.

      • Se

@Jacob Wow, by far one of the most ignorant comments i have ever read. Seems like religion would do you some good.

      • Brock

You know how I know you’re enlightened? You used the word “retard” in the pejorative sense.

      • Louise

        Wow, have some tolerance, Jacob.

      • eatme

        @Brock
What is it like being a sexually frustrated virgin at your age?

      • meme

        so is Lost.
