ABC schedules 'Skating with the Stars' and 'V'

v-show-remakeImage Credit: Sergei Bachlakov/ABCGood news for fans of the lizard people: ABC announced today that V will return Jan. 4 at 9 p.m., behind a new timeslot for No Ordinary Family on Tuesdays. The network promises that season two of the high-concept show will feature more character and lizard reveals, along with more details about the V’s mythology.

In the meantime, ABC has decided to replace Dancing With the Stars when its current season ends with a program that features even more (B-level? C-Level?) celebrities making awkward dance moves in front of a live audience! But this time, they’ll do it on ice: Beginning Monday, Nov. 22, ABC will kick off a six-episode run of Skating With the Stars. The new series from BBC Worldwide Prods. will pair celebrities with “world class ice skaters” who’ll compete in front of a live audience. The skating pairs will be critiqued by a panel of expert judges and will receive a set of scores based on artistry and technique and by viewers at home, with one couple being eliminated each week.

The Skating With the Stars cast will be revealed Nov. 2, during the live Dancing With the Stars Results show.

Here’s the ABC schedule through January:

8-9: Dancing With the Stars
9-11: Skating With the Stars (premiere)

Nov. 29

8-9:30: Skating With the Stars

Nov. 30

10-11: Castle (repeat)

I am really looking forward to the return of V. I don’t understand why the critics panned it so much. Hopefully this season will prove them wrong.

Not so much looking forward to Skating with the Stars, but better than repeats.

  • sara

Didn’t fox do this a few years ago???

    • whatevs

You’re right, I think it was called Skating With Celebrities.

    • Andrew

Yes, it did back in 2006. However, it never had good ratings. It looks like ABC wants to revamp the show.

  • Andrew

I hope Michelle Kwan will be one of the skaters.

    • Chichi

I hope so too, this will redeem her for not winning the gold.

    • Jo

that would defeat the purpose of the show — ringer! and it wouldn’t make up for the Olympics!

      • ger

Uh, I think Kwan would be a “world class ice skater”.

      • Mellissa

I’m fairly certain that Michelle Kwan would be one of the skating pros. Um, duh?

    • Shari

Michelle Kwan is a singles skater. They would want a pairs skater to be on this show. On the Skating with Celebrities show, they had a few singles skaters paired with celebrities and it didn’t go well.

    • Annia

I like Michelle. I am also hoping to see Ekatarina Gordeeva though. She is mesmerizing to watch, but can’t do the jumps as good as Michelle. Looking forward to the show.

      • sonja

In Canada we have Battle of the Blades that pairs up NHL hockey players with pro ice skaters. Ekatarina is on it this year. She is fun to watch!

  • Dave

January? I thought V was supposed to return in November?
By the way, is V only getting a 13 episode season? Is there any chance the episode order could be increased?

    • Anthony

Yeah, what gives?? They had a panel at Comic con this past weekend and announced a November premiere! Oh well, I guess january it is.

  • Jennifer

Skating with the Stars sounds like a trainwreck. They should really try something like Battle of The Blades which airs in Canada. Pairing NHL hockey players (who can actually skate) with Olympic pairs skaters, that show is a ratings hit and its awesome!

    • Stephanie T.

      That’s an awesome idea!

    • Renee

That IS an awesome idea. I’d definitely watch. The Cutting Edge — Reality Show version.

    • Irene

Battle of the Blades is awesome! The skating is really good too!

      • Amy

I LOVE Battle of The Blades, it is basically the Reality Show version of The Cutting Edge! The hockey players are really good (not to mention hot!) this year and are all super competitive, training really hard. The best thing is that it’s all for charity too!

      • sonja

I’m impressed at how good the guys are this year.

  • Stephanie T.

Skating with the stars was a disater on Fox.

    • Sabibi

That show was best known for the film Buffy hooking up with her then married partner…

      • Kate

I’m so glad someone mentioned that! It’s the only thing I remember about that show, and I think I watched every episode.

  • pete

Skating with the stars? You’re joking right?

    • Sue1

I wish it was a joke, pete, but yet, it lives.

    • Joanne

That’s what I thought at firtst that this was some kind of joke.

Just what we need–another reality series. I don’t care if they put reality series on just don’t mess with the scripted series already in place.

  • Peter Vee

More lizard reveals? How about more characters we actually care about, and a patch job on some of those massive plot holes? Sorry, but V is ridiculous.

  • Christa

Happy that V is coming back, but can we stop it with the British imports.

    • kad

Glad to have V back but am I seeing that ABC is moving No Ordinary Family not once but twice? That’s how shows lose audiences, when they don’t know when/where to find it. Use your head ABC!

      • bamalam

exactly!!! And Networks wonder why they never have viewers! I have to rely on my DVR to watch my shows that keep getting switched around.

      • MP

It looks like it’s actually just moving to 9 for a few weeks, and then back to 8 on Jan. 4. How many new episodes are they even going to show in that time? I love that we have a premiere date for V. And also that it’s right after another show I like.

  • Jethro

Skating with the stars will be just like Skating with Celebrities but more like Dancing….Stars. You will have pro skaters, former champs/Olympians paired with stars. Will not fare well just like the dancing competition that Bruno & Carrie Ann had a few seasons back.

Why hasn’t ABC put Body of Proof on instead focusing on a show that none of us really need to know about just yet. Don’t care either way about V, this show dragged on and on last season!

  • Sarah

Can ABC please air the remaining two episodes of “Better Off Ted”? I don’t care if its 2am on a Saturday.

    • Mothra

Dude. I feel your pain. Surf over to iTunes and down load them. They are worth the $3 a piece. And I think it’s the only way you’ll see them, as it appears season two won’t see a dvd release. At least, it hasn’t yet…

    • Enter 77

unfortunately, they probably never will, they made them available on netflix streaming, and of course on the dvds, but that was a while back, unless they do a marathon in a few years, it’s not happening

  • SkatingFan

Nov-Dec is in the peak of the figure skating season so fans will tune in. Give ABC a chance, they’re not Fox. If they have interesting skaters and judges, it will be worth viewing just to see them, regardless of who the “stars” are.

    • Corey

OK, ABC employee…whatever you say. Show still sounds dumb. V still blows.

  • Stephanie T.

Well, if it was ice dancing with the stars I guess it would not be so bad. It would be interesting to see a celebrity reinact Torivil and Dean’s “Bolero”.

  • Sara

I think hoping this SwtS cr*p gets B or C level celebs is probably wishful thinking.

  • Nikki

Yay! Finally! I’ve been waiting for news on “V”. I watched the original series and the reboot is is great! It’s just too bad I have to wait until January!
