'The Talk' debut lures more gals to CBS daytime

cbs_the-talkImage Credit: James White/CBSThe premiere of The Talk may have only featured lots of enthusiastic chatter about starting a new show, but it definitely piqued the interest of female viewers: CBS says the new series featuring Julie Chen, Sara Gilbert, Sharon Osbourne, Holly Robinson Peete, Leah Remini and Marissa Jaret Winokur boosted key female demographics in the time period versus the same time a year ago.

According to preliminary ratings provided by CBS, The Talk averaged 2.2 million viewers and a 1.1 rating among women 25-54. It posted a 0.9 rating among women ages 18-49 and and a 0.5 rating with women ages 18-34. Compared to how As the World Turns performed in the time period a year ago, The Talk was up 22% in women 25-54, up 29% among women 18-49 and up 67% in women 18-34.

Jennifer Lopez is expected to appear on the show today.

I guess they right to cancel ATWT from a ratings/business perspective.

    • Larry David

Oh god, who watches this crap?? Only desperate housewives who do nothing but drink wine all day when they should be taking care of their kids.

      • vanessa

        seriously larry….drink wine all day?

dont forget about the bon bons and soap operas

      • jpratm

        Ignorant

      • Cathexis Aurore

This cracks me up. This person is among the first to pounce on every single article here to post some douchebag comment, and we’re supposed to buy the superiority schtick? Talk about ‘get a life’.

I’ll tell you who watches this and other things you bash: real people who have better things to do that worry about whether some random Internet troll thinks they’re cool enough.

      • Laurie

Excuse me? I am NOT a desperate housewife, I don’t drink wine, & I DO take care of my kids! You obviously watched it, so if that is what you think, then what does that say about you?

      • Myrtle Girdle

        Too much WHINE ladies! lol

  • Greta

stupid Talk! cancel my As the world turns for these boring and lifeless women!

  • Larry David

However, I will say that I love The View, and I was sad to hear that Tyra was ending her show.

  • WTF?

I watched this yesterday, and despite the fact that all involved were horribly stiff (and Leah Remini is obnoxious), I will give it another try just for Sharon and Sara. Those two are cool enough to offset irritating Leah and robotic Julie Chen… for now.

    • Doug

Could not agree with you more about Remini that clown is way past her prime so artificial she makes me want to vomit!

  • denny p.

Give the women of The View some credit, because they have some chemistry. But these ladies of The Talk- have no chemistry whatsoever. Sara barely spoke throughout the program. I missed the very b****y side of Sharon Osbourne.

How can a journalist discuss ratings for a premiere during a specific time slot without actually identifying the date or time of the program? Aren’t these journalistic basics? Who? What? WHEN? etc. I won’t be watching the show, but if your entire article is about demographics and comparing performances to other shows in the same time slot, then IDENTIFY the time. I’m sorry, but high school journalists could figure this out. Why is a paid writer being so lazy?

  • jeni

In my kids school teachers are asked not to Face book or myspace. and all the Teachers I have talked to stick to this rule

  • this is to the view

what the monkees was to the beatles; a cheap knock off

  • Patricia

I never liked Lea as it is, but she is so obnoxious when you can only hear her voice and she is LOUD I think the program would be better less her nasty self.

  • Charlotte Del Toro

I love this show you ladies keep it so real

  • Riss

I enjoyed the show yesterday of “The Talk”. I do miss As the World Turns and was irritated when they took it off the air. They should keep the good shows on the air and take off all the stupid game shows. I feel “The Talk” will be a success and helpful not only to mothers but to women.

So good to finally have Leah Remini back on tv.Loved her on King of Queens: loud-mouthed,bossy&very funny Carrie Heffernan was my role model: wish I could be just like her, in the uniqely adorable way she was,and just like the amazingly talented actress who played
    her for 9 yrs,,is.

Leah is such a breath of fresh air;just
    what daytime tv needed.

    Welcome Back,Leah!

    And good luck to all!!

    • Glowbug

Wow I loved Leah Remini on King of Queens because she was so not a nicey-nicey character for a change and held her own with Kevin James—I think she is funny!

  • meganrae

I cannot believe they were bashing Taylor Swift like they were! And when is Sara gonna get to join in afterall this show was her idea! I think they are way off topic too…what is the show really about? And that dog was NASTY!

  • kathy

I thought Leah Remini would be my favorite on this show. Not. I only know her from “king of queens” but she sure is different in real life. LOUD. Is this the real her or is she trying to play up some sort of Jersey Girl thing? Loud and obnoxious is how she is coming across and I find it not only irritating but sad.

I watched this knock off of the View for the first time today strictly out of curiousity. It felt like I was watching the old school version of The View. The set looks similar to the View from the Merdith days, the hosts all sit together at a table similar to View. They discuss “hot topics” during the first segment which is followed by a celeb interview (today was Remini’s bff J Lo!) and finally a “how to” segment. They didn’t discuss politics but I’m sure they will sooner than later. Watching it I kept thinking they’re not even trying to be vague about being a View clone. And WTF is Darlene Connor doing on a talk show?! The entire panel is completely random. That being said the show wasn’t an all out disaster either. It may just work.

    • Dot Shafer

At least they aren’t always talking over each other like TheView gals do. I enjoyed it and think as they go on they will fine tune it more and get better.
