FX orders new Elijah Wood comedy

wilfred-elijah-woodImage Credit: FXFX announced today that it has ordered 13 episodes of Wilfred, a live-action comedy series starring Elijah Wood (The Lord of the Rings) that’s based on the Australian series of the same name. David Zuckerman (Family Guy, American Dad) wrote the pilot and will serve as the comedy’s showrunner. Wood plays an introvert who meets Wilfred (Jason Gann, who co-created and played the title character in the Australian version of Wilfred), who’s described by Zuckerman as “part Australian Shepherd, part Russell Crowe on a bender.” The world sees Wilfred as a dog while Wood’s character Ryan sees Wilfred as a man dressed in a dog suit.

Wilfred marks Wood’s first starring role in regular series television.  “We loved how well the pilot turned out, and we were blown away by the chemistry between Elijah Wood and Jason Gann,” said Nick Grad, FX’s executive vice president of original programming. “It’s a very unique concept and we think David Zuckerman has a great take on it.”

Wilfred joins Louie, Archer, The League, and FX signature hit It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia on the network’s comedy roster.

FX has a solid track record for comedy. Archer, the League and Always Sunny are all hilarious. I’m looking forward to this.

Do we know if the dog will still have an Australian accent? I doubt it will, but the way the dog talked was half the humor of the show

  • Dave

Never saw the Australian version though, but this sounds pretty cool. I’ll definitely check it out, FX has had way more hits than misses.
Any idea when this is supposed to premiere?

    • yes isaid it

never seen it huh? THEN WHY ARE YOU COMMENTING? it’s called a rope and a door.

      • Dave

Wow, someone forget to take their meds today. Dumbf*ck.

    • Me, Baby Me.

I completely agree with “yes isaid it”. People shouldn’t be allowed to comment on new shows they’re planning to watch in the future if they haven’t them yet……Or “yes isaid it” is a synonym for a women’s private cleansing device….

“People shouldn’t be allowed to comment on new shows they’re planning to watch in the future if they haven’t them yet…” THIS IS AN IDIOTIC STATEMENT, you do realize this, don’t you? To Me, Baby Me and yes isaid it- you two are both one sandwich short of a picnic….why the Hell can’t somebody comment on a show they’ve yet to see? It’s called a commment forum for a reason…so folks can post comments…

I think Me, Baby Me. was being sarcastic.

Can’t wait to see Elijah in a comedy. Should be awesome!

The “lawyer” spelled “lawyer” wrong. I wish people would get really jobs instead of posting that crap.

  • scott

    real jobs. lol

Elijah Wood is the most grating actor around. Why not just have the original actors who I guarantee are a THOUSAND times better than troll face?

  • squirelllover

I love ELijah Wood, i have since i was 11, hes THE BEST!!

  • David

Isn’t this just a repackaged “Harvey” with a dog instead of a rabbit? What is so original about remaking a movie from the fifties into a TV series? Wasn’t there already a “Greg the Bunny” as well, in addition to “Donnie Darko”?
