Image Credit: Mitchell Haaseth/NBC Not-so-great news for Medium: An insider confirmed to EW.com that CBS has cut back the episodic order from 22 to 13 to make room for the network’s midseason lineup. The source stressed that the Patricia Arquette drama is not in immediate danger of cancellation, but if the ghost stories were doing any better in the ratings (or the buzz department), there would likely be no change to the order.
CBS has a jam-packed midseason lineup (including the highly-anticipated Criminal Minds spin-off starring Forest Whittaker), and since the Eye picked up all five of its freshman shows (The Defenders, Mike & Molly, $#*! My Dad Says, Hawaii 5-0, and Blue Bloods), space will be at a premium on the network come early spring.
The CBS-owned Medium, which airs Fridays at 8 p.m., is currently averaging 8.5 million viewers.
Aren’t these ratings for any show that airs on a Friday phenomenal? I doubt they are going to put the Criminal Minds Spinoff on a Friday, so to make room, they are going to put another show that is already successful to the Friday death slot?
Actually, Medium’s been down a lot this season as compared to last season. The only reason they picked it up was because they have a great syndication deal with Lifetime.
Medium would be better if the lead actress, that inferior woman type, if she had bigger breasts. She doesn’t seem too bright, either.
Meh, every week its the same story with medium… getting quite sick of Patricia’s character believing her dreams are always right yet at the end there is a twist and she interpreted it wrong. The show should have been canceled last year. Her attitude of “I’m always right” bugs me, considering she’s almost always wrong.
Definitely not looking forward to the Criminal Minds spinoff. This season of the original show is unbelievable. Every week the story plots are getting better and better, it is seriously one of the most well done shows on tv. I can not see the spinoff being as good especially with forest as the lead. The cast of the original show is just so dam good.
Its about time. CBS is the most boring channel on TV, and the most unoriginal channel there is. The fact that many people watch this channel shows that most American suffer from brain deficiency and they need to seek help.
ABC is by FAR the better network. They picked Cavemen back in 2007, and that was a MASTERPIECE. Idiots don’t get that humor, they’re too stupid. Most people here are stupid, so they probably don’t like Cavemen. Fine, steal my name and that childish stuff. I’m who I am and you are the thief!

Shouldn’t be surprised. Though I thought the 22 was guaranteed. Medium is not an 8/7 show. Did best it could. I don’t know how they can say it’s not cancelled, unless everything else starts to tank. If renewed, would be this year’s Dollhouse! LOL

The Criminal Minds spin off is “highly anticipated”? By who? I haven’t seen much positive buzz about this show, and this is coming from someone who really loves the original Criminal Minds.

I loved Ghost Whisperer and was bummed when it got cancelled. I really enjoy watching Medium. Survivor totally blows and very boring to watch!! I get more out of watching the Discovery Channel!!

“Medium” is still producing very imaginative variations of its original premise, but it is also still one of the most underrated shows on TV!
I agree, Garry. Every episode this season has been superior. If anyone is to blame for this situation, it’s the moronic viewing public who don’t know a good show when it’s right there in front of them.

And despite their being psychic, they are the most realistic family EVER depicted on a TV show. The casting is perfect. Will really miss Medium, it’s the only show I DVR on Friday.
I too watch it for the family dynamic. I kind of find the whole psychic thing a little far fetched – every week a different “power” – but I have been a religious follower from NBC to CBS and still enjoy Allison, Joe and the girls.
I couldn’t agree with you more on the realistic family comment. A couple who fight sometimes; children that aren’t perfect; a husband that looks like a real guy, not a model; a mom who sometimes makes mistakes and oftentimes worries – I love the writing and I miss this show so much.
