'Dancing With the Stars' rocks on Monday, 'Hawaii Five-0' takes a hit

monday-ratingsImage Credit: Sonja Flemming/CBS; Adam Larkey/ABC; Adam Rose/FoxABC and the behemoth Dancing With the Stars had another great night Monday. That (arguably silly) rock theme did wonders for the two-hour competition show that had a slight overrun into Castle’s timeslot: Stars averaged 20 million viewers and posted a stunning 4.2 rating/11 share among adults 18-49 — a 5% increase versus last week. That, in turn, boosted Castle, which earned a 3.0/8 in the demo (up 20% versus last week) and lured a timeslot-winning audience of 11.7 million.

Overall, ABC won the night in viewers (17.3 million) and adults 18-49 (3.8/10). Each 18-49 ratings point represents 1.3 million ballroom-loving people.

CBS’ comedy night came in second with a 3.3/9 and 10.2 million viewers, though How I Met Your Mother (3.2/9, 8.3 million) and Two and a Half Men (4.3/11, 13.6 million) were down single-digits versus last week. Rules of Engagement (2.9/8, 8.2 million) was flat versus last week while Mike & Molly (3.6/9, 10.8 million) was actually up 3% versus last week. Good for the house of Chuck Lorre (the über-producer who’s behind the comedy about two pleasantly plump lovers). But Hawaii Five-0 (2.8/7, 10 million) posted its lowest-rated telecast so far in the key demo, though it still won its timeslot among men 25-54 and men 12-17 (the dudes dig Scott Caan!).

Chuck on NBC earned a 1.9/5 and averaged 5.4 million, while The Event – which has already earned a full season pickup — posted a 2.0/5, it’s lowest-rated telecast to date. It lured 5.9 million. And Chase, which also was picked up for a full season, was down a whopping 13% to a mere 1.3/4 in the demo, also its lowest-rated telecast ever. It averaged 4.9 million. Overall, NBC finished third for the night among 18-49 (1.7/4) and total viewers (5.4 million).

Fox ran a repeat of House which did no favors for an original episode of Lie to Me, which did a 1.5/4 and attracted 4.3 million viewers. Fox came in fourth for the night with 4.1 million and a 1.5/4.

On the CW, 90210 attracted its largest audience of the season (2.0 million) and matched its season-highs in all key demographics, including women 18-34. Gossip Girl only averaged 1.8 million, but it was still the CW’s best Monday of the season in total viewers (2.0 million).

Hey! Chicks love scott caan too! I swear it!

    • debbles

      aw, yeah we do!!!!

    • Sasha

He is the only reason I am watching.

  • JMaG`

    Chase…Terrible decision by NBC.

  • Sarah

    I was watching football.

    • TQB

Does football not count because it’s on ESPN now? Maybe this is East Coast bias, but Dallas-NYG is a pretty big game.

  • Travis

I find it hard to believe that 13.6 million watch Two and a Half Men…

    • john

Two & a Half Men is funny, we don’t find much to laugh at in this world, this program does it.

  • Jaded

Lie To Me and Hawaii Five 0 are the best shows! Tim Roth kicks ass!

    • Molly

      true dat

  • More Kono please

I’d say Grace Park has more to do with those demographics than Scott Caan.

  • Evan

Why are so many more people watching Mike & Molly than HIMYM? That show is awful…

    • ej

my thoughts exactly..I actually like The Event but I can’t believe NBC is sticking with these shows..Chase? c’mon really?

  • Nerwen Aldarion

    Go Castle!!!

  • Flip

Scott Caan needs to lose some weight. He’s a little too on the chunky side for this role. I dread the inevitable swimsuit scene.

    • kay

he is only about 5 feet 4 inches and it looks like the put him up against someone over 6 feet so he looks even smaller .

    • katie

Ha he isn’t chunky at all. He is really small (short) so he looks different up against Alex. But I’ve seen Scott many times with his shirt off and he’s always buff.

Hawaii Five 0 is a great show. But last night was a huge night for football. Not everybody watches DWTS.
    What no ratings for football.

  • ctf

I LOVE CASTLE!!! Way to go!!

  • Penny

I did not enjoy Mondays show as without the music that goes with the dance it doesn’t work. The only reason the last couple got good scores from the judges was because their music most sounded like the dance they were doing. I think the judges agreed with us because they also said the dances just didn’t work. PLEASE use the music that matches the dance!!! Thank you very much

  • redvector

I just don’t see The Event and Chase surviving to another season the way thier numbers continue to slide.

And 5-0 was just boring last night.

    • katie

I didn’t think Hawaii was boring at all last night. Kept me guessing. Every episode doesn’t have to bang bang action the whole time.

  • sam

Somehow my earlier comment disappeared, but these are overnight ratings that have not been adjusted for the one minute overlap of DWTS. Castle is ALWAYS corrected down and H5O is always corrected up, especially after the DVR numbers. H5O has come out on top of Castle every week in the final numbers. I love Castle, but the ABC one minute over is kind of foolish.

    • BkWurm1

      Here are the adjusted numbers.
Castle- 11.322 million 2.9/8 and H5O- 10.231 million 2.8/8 and the winner is still Castle. Now may I direct you to the big smile on my face.

  • CVisca

Can you put this stuff into a chart like the ratings list you used to post?
