Discovery to woo 'Deadliest Catch' stars back?
Production on season 7 of Deadliest Catch is expected to begin next week in Alaska’s Dutch Harbor despite the news that stars Sig Hansen and Johnathan and Andy Hillstrand have left the show because of a legal dispute. Discovery sued the Hillstrands for failing to finish work on a Catch spin-off; the brothers countersued that the lawsuit would force them to sell their boats, so they quit the show. (Though he wasn’t involved in the lawsuit, Hansen backed the Hillstrands and left too.) The network isn’t commenting, but there may be an 11th hour attempt to woo the captains back. Until then, Catch will still follow boats The Wizard, The Kodiak, and the sons of the late Phil Harris who will continue on the Cornelia Marie. The show may find replacements for the Hillstrands’ Time Bandit and Hansen’s Northwestern.
Exclusive: I have some big news...
You may need a hug after you read this. Or I may need one. Sources confirm to me exclusively that… I just made pretty much the most difficult decision of my life.
After nearly two and a half years, 108 Ask Ausiellos, 176 asterisk quizzes, 37 blind items, and 98 Save Chuck campaigns, I have decided to leave Entertainment Weekly to fulfill my life-long dream of opening a Smurf museum in Belgium.
Okay, the museum part is hogwash, but I am moving on from EW. The reason: I’m starting my own television site with Jay Penske’s MMC Corporation, the company behind Deadline.com, Movieline.com, HollywoodLife.com, etc. READ FULL STORY »
Scoop: 'Glee' cast gets miniaturized!
Methinks Glee is about to answer the centuries-old question, “What does a 5-year-old boy look like with a Mohawk?” Sources confirm that the Fox phenom is looking for kindergarten-aged actors and actresses to play kiddie versions of Puck, Santana, Rachel, Brittany, and Mercedes in this season’s seventh episode. Why? Beats me. Got a theory? Hit the comments!

Katie Couric 'hasn't made any decision' about her next move, says source
Image Credit: Bob Charlotte/PR PhotosThough rumors persist that CBS Evening News Anchor Katie Couric may return to NBC’s Today, a key source tells EW that it’s premature to predict what she may (or may not) do once her deal with CBS expires in May. “Kate is enjoying her success with her team at CBS News, and hasn’t made any decision,” says the source.
Speculation about Couric’s next move hit a fever pitch this week when her friend and former Today boss Jeff Zucker announced his intention to leave NBC-Universal once the takeover by Comcast is complete. While many speculated that Zucker’s departure would deter Couric from returning to the morning show, that is not the case, the insider stressed. A return to Today remains a possibility, though it’s too early to predict what newly-minted CEO Steve Burke will do, should Couric become available.
For now, Couric remains focused on CBS News, which this week earned seven News & Documentary Emmys — more than any other network. Couric won the prize for outstanding interview for her 60 Minutes chat with Capt. Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger and the crew of U.S. Airways flight 1549, while her show nabbed Emmys for investigative journalism (“Rape in America: Justice Denied”), business and economic reporting (“Financial Family Tree”) and for best story in a regularly scheduled newscast (“The Battle of Wanat”).
Despite the flurry of honors (Couric has also won two Edward R. Murrow awards), CBS Evening News remains stuck in third place. For the 2009-10 season that ended Sept. 19, the broadcast averaged 5.7 million viewers — a 6% drop versus the previous year. The No. 1 ranked NBC (8.5 million) and the No. 2 ranked ABC (7.5 million) were also down 1% and 4%, respectively. Among adults 25-54 — the target audience for news — CBS (a 1.4 rating), also trailed NBC (2.1) and ABC (1.7). Each 25-54 ratings point represents 1.24 million viewers.
