New drama from 'The Shield' creator replaces 'Lie to Me'

Tags: News, Television

ride-alongImage Credit: Peter Sorel/FoxFox announced today that it will debut The Chicago Code (formerly Ride-Along) on Monday, Feb. 7. Shot on location in Chicago, the drama starring Jason Clarke (Brotherhood) and Jennifer Beals (The L-Word) follows city cops as they fight crime and corruption in the Windy City. The drama’s from Shawn Ryan (The Shield) and Tim Minear (Dollhouse).

The new series will air in the timeslot currently occupied by Lie to Me, which has been averaging 6.1 million viewers (its predecessor, the short-lived Lone Star, only averaged 4.5 million viewers after two airings). Fox said Lie to Me will return to the schedule at a later date.

    Sounds exciting, count mezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!

Ouch. Might ease the blow to replace your old show with your new show. I never got into Lie To Me, but will check this one out for Beals.

    • George

You dolt! Beals was on Lie to me, too!

      • Bonnie

So it’s Fox’s designated Jennifer Beals hour? I could live with that.

After first hearing about this show and being very hopeful of another Shield quality show, I was excited to see the previews. Then I saw the previews, Ouch. I hope it is a lot better then what they have shown us so far.

  • Lesley

I won’t watch this show (didn’t watch Lie to Me either). Jason Clarke is creepy and gives me the heebie jeebies. Couldn’t stand to look at him in Brotherhood. This one is NOT on my list to see.

  • chattypatra

What? Another cop show? Lie to Me is great and unique. Shame on you, Fox!

Fox’s Idiotic way of Competing with Detroit 1-8-7 and Hawaii 5 0 ,
One cop show is already good enough. i ll pass.

The new Hawaii 5-O is dreadful. I want Pearl Harbor to happen all over again when I watch it. Scott Caan should be deported to where-ever nepotist bad actors are sent when they suck terminally… And the lead guy, who cares what his name is, McGarrett-dood… What a stiff. Why any show should feel the need to compete with that pile of Hawaiian dog food is beyond me…

    Lynette,

Any idea what FOX plans to do with IDOL/GLEE? I know they are schduled to air on the same night. I have a hard time believeing FOX will waste 2 big hit shows on same night. I think either GLEE goes to Thurs or IDOL is Wed/THurs. Fringe either Fri or Summer. What do you think?

The Chicago Code doesn’t sound like the kind of show that will grab and hold my attention, but neither did The Shield at first. Ultimately, it became one of the best TV series of all time (in my always-correct opinion). Still, this new show won’t be on FX and it won’t have Walton Goggins. Hopefully it will prove to be worth my (and Shaun Ryan’s) time.

  • Christian

Remember that Lie to Me was brought back earlier than expected due to Lone Star’s quick pull. This is probably being done so they don’t have to buy more episodes before they’re ready to make that decision.

  • Selena

Stop messing with Lie to Me! Such a great show and Fox always screws with it. I wish another station had it…maybe then, it would be left alone.

  • S

Isn’t Beals on Lie to Me too? That’s got to be just a little wierd for her.

    Marc,
I am not Lynette, but I can answer your question.

The winter schedule Fox announced at the upfronts last May is as followed:

“American Idol” will run 90 minutes on Tuesdays, leading into a half-hour comedy at 9:30.

On Wednesdays, “Raising Hope” will lead into a half-hour “Idol” results show, followed by “Glee” at 9:00.

This may change, but that is what the plan is for now.

  • Marsha

I guess I will give it a try, but can’t see that it can compare to The Shield being on network tv.

  • Marc

    Thanks Nicolas,

I am aware of their announced sked which is what prompted my question. I just dont see them wasting IDOL and GLEE on same night. They are two of the biggest hits on TV. it’s like if ABC aired GREYS and Modern Family on the same night. Obviously when they set their sked in May they didnt know how GLEE would do by itself in the Fall. Now they do and its a full blown smash. No reason to air it same night as IDOL and Im sure they want a huge hit on Thursday. Either one of those on Thurs and they own the night

    Thanks

  • Matt

This is nice, but what about Terriers? Best new show of the year!

    • MikeMike

I agree… Donal Logue is mint.

  • David00004

Fringe should be on after House but Fox is too stupid for that.

    • asm343

Didn’t Fringe used to be on after House? I think it was last season.

      • Delicious Strawberry Flavored Death

Fringe was on after House in Season One.
