Image Credit: Isabella Vosmikova/SyfySyfy has signed makeup artists Ve Neill (Pirates of the Caribbean) and Glen Hetrick (Heroes) and creature designer Patrick Tatopoulos (I am Legend) to serve as judges on Face Off, a new reality-competition series set in the world of special effects and makeup. The series will feature 12 aspiring special effects artists competing for a chance to launch their career.
The hour-long episodes will premiere in January and air over eight weeks. Actress McKenzie Westmore (Passions) will host.
“Syfy provides a definitive forum to showcase the imagination and artistry of this incredible field,” said Mark Stern, Executive Vice President of Original Programming, Syfy and Co-Head of Content for Universal Cable Productions, in a statement. “The series will introduce twelve dynamic personalities who will display their creativity and talent through a series of weekly challenges. Given her auspicious background, McKenzie Westmore is the perfect host, and we’re honored to have such renowned figures as Glen Hetrick, Ve Neill and Patrick Tatopoulos as our judges. Their high-standards for special effects artistry will push our contestants to the top of their game.”
Contestants will have to execute such challenges as applying full body paint make up on models and creating their own horror villains.

MacKenzie Westmore comes from a long heritage of Hollywood Make-up artists starting with her great grandfather, George Westmore. Her father Micheal has been responsible for the special effects make-up in many episodes and movies throughout the Star Trek Universe. His movie resume includes make-up effects for Raging Bull, most of the Rocky franchise, and Mask. His TV credits began with The Munsters through McGyver to ST Enterprise.
MacKenzie Westmore should make a wonderful, knowledgeable
Host for this competition.
Sounds interesting
Finally a show that isn’t about drunken housewives, snarky dress designers or hot headded cooks!
Looking forward to this show!
been a fan of mckenzie’s since 1999
great to have her back on tv
They aren’t aspiring make-up artists, they are people who have worked in the industry for years competing against the peers for cash
They are aspiring, there considered that because they haven’t been featured in major films or such.
I’m on the SHOW! AMAZING!
I was impressed with the first episode and look forward to seeing more. I don’t think I would have caught this one had I not been recommended it by one of my customers (I am a DISH employee and subscriber). HD is the way to go for a show like this it looked absolutely great!
