ABC picks up more episodes of 'Castle'

castleImage Credit: Mitch Haddad/ABCGood news for Castle fans: The drama has done so well for ABC that the network has decided to pick up two more episodes. That brings the total season order to 24.

On average, Castle ranks a strong No. 2 in its Monday timeslot in total viewers (12.8 million) and adults 18-49 (3.2 rating/8 share). Over the last four weeks, Castle – which is getting a big boost from Dancing with the Stars – has drawn more viewers than Hawaii Five-0. This is the show’s best season ever.

The show also attracts an advertiser-coveted upscale audience as TV’s No. 1 show at 10 p.m. among adults 18-49 in homes earning more than $100,000 annually, according to ABC.

this is great news! horray to the best show on network TV!

    • Sam Puckett

Why? I did not see FRINGE or Friday Night Lights mentioned in this article

      • amber

ok, i have to agree with you on fringe. if we’re talking underrated, fringe all the way. FNL is not network.

      • Darrin

I know NBC barely registers in the ratings, but they are still a network. Though FNL now airs first on DirecTV, it’s still an NBC show.

One of my favorite shows. Yeah for them.

      @Rob…what???

      • Rob

Instead of a full season order, ABC keeps taking little sips…

      • the show already HAD a full season order. instead of 22, it has 24 episodes now.

      • Mm

Season 2 was 24 episodes. Season 3 *was* only 22 episodes so only now does it really become a full season.

      • sundance

As far as I know, a full season is considered to be 22 episodes. The fact that Season 2 had 24 doesn’t mean that 24 episodes is the new standard for a full season.

      • thumper

from my recollection of season 2, abc did the same thing back then and ordered an extra 2 episodes to make it 24 in total from the original 22.

      • Rob

NO! They ordered 13 episodes.. THEN extended it to 22… and NOW extended it to 24. They seem tentative to commit to a winning show that is growing.

      • DJ

Last season (Season 2), they picked it up for 13, then 22, then 24. This season (Season 3), they picked it up for the full 22 episodes in the spring (and now 24), no waiting for the back 9 this time through.

      • Rob

This is all I am saying. It took them long enough, and only through fan support, to realize this is one of their top shows.

They were so hesitant to see what people love about it.

  • CarolH

    Yipppeeee….love love love this show!!!!

  • Nerwen Aldarion

    ALRIGHT CASTLE!!!!!

  • Cantu

Yep, Castle really is ruggedly handsome!

    • Kiki

      He really is…

    • octopus

Yes he is. And that comes from a heterosexual male…

      • Toto

When does Victor Webster come on as Becket’s love interest?

  • ks

    Smart move! YEA

  • joel

    More Stana!!! Yeah!!

  • Stephanie

This is fantastic news! What could be better than the already incredible Castle? MORE CASTLE! Glad to have another 24 episode season :)

  • TriciaA

Love Castle! Great show, excited to hear about even more episodes!

  • d

    love castle. Great news.

  • Cathy

    YAY, great news!

  • sam

I love Castle and DVR it, but the true test will be after the end of DWTS. The one minute overlap always distorts Castle’s ratings. In the final ratings, it is usually adjusted down quite a bit.

    • Nerwen Aldarion

Last year after DWTS ended, Castle actually improved in the ratings…Castle does better in the Spring without football preempting it.

      • matt

How does football preempt it? I thought MNF was on ESPN now.

      • Nerwen Aldarion

Local affiliates preempt it for football sometimes.

  • Jenn

This is such a great show.. One of the few shows that my husband, son and I watch as a family (Leverage and Burn Notice being the others). I love the banter between Castle and Beckett. I like how they are keeping them apart, but yet together. Also, MNF has pre-empted Castle here in the Northeast when the Pats play because our 2 ABC stations show the game and shows Castle around 2AM. Hate that!!

    • Toto

I’m completely enchanted by the entire cast. His daughter is a fairy princess and his mother is a glam Grandma. The two other cops put those wooden sticks on the Mentalist to shame.

      • loveface

Could not agree with you more!! We were just sitting around the other night talking about how much we enjoy the chemistry not only between the two leads but the captain can actually hold his own and is not some buffoon and the two side kick cops are just fun- everyone on the show including the mom and daughter make this fun to watch!!

    • Alie

I watch Castle with my family too. Such a great show. I’m glad it’s been getting so much press lately (USA Today Article). There aren’t many shows that successfully mix murder, drama, romantic tension, and tons of humor.

  • CastlePrincess

    YESSSSSSSSS!!! SO HAPPY :) :)
