Gleeks, get ready to piddle in your pants a little bit: EW has the exclusive premiere of Academy Award-winner Gwyneth Paltrow singing Cee-Lo’s “Forget You” from next Tuesday’s episode of Glee. We’ve already had a little taste of the episode with the coming attractions and yesterday’s song tease, but now EW has your first look at Paltrow’s duet with the kids from New Directions. To give you all a little context, the actress is playing Holly Holliday, a substitute teacher who fills in for a sick Mr. Schuester (Matthew Morrison) in the episode, which is directed by series co-creator Ryan Murphy. But enough talk — I know you really just wanna watch Paltrow get her Glee on. My problem with the auto-tune is that they use it when it is completely unnecessary like last week during teenage dream. The guy who played Blaine — don’t hate me for forgetting his name — has a great voice and they turned up the auto tune during a big note at the end where he didn’t need the help and it ruined the whole thing for me. The more they use the auto-tune the more people like Hailey are going to underestimate the true talent of the cast.

Just enjoy the singing and the tunes,they all can sing some maybe better than others if you only realize how much rehursing and singing they do day after day for this show you would understand the need to help save their vocals whenever necessary, they may not always have the proper time to warm up their vocals which can result in serious damage.You should have respect for all the hard work that goes into it. If your going to criticize watch something else.

Actually, Gwenyth Paltrow’s a great singer, which most people don’t know or expect. Love her or not, I doubt she was auto-tuned – she wouldn’t need to be.
Because the writers have made her such a flat character that her only personality trait has become “hates it if anyone else sings besides her ever”.

The characters are all written as so flat and one dimensional that it seems like the writers can’t do anything with them! The characters never change and each episode feels the same. I gave up on the show 2 weeks ago for this very reason.
Thanks, Tracy! I’ve been trying to figure out why I’m beginning to get so frustrated about watching this show and you hit the nail on the head with that comment! I’m getting really sick of Rachel’s flat personality. It was funny (sometimes) in the first season, but now it’s just old and the attempts they’ve shown in the season so far about her trying to not be so selfish have been weak and fallen flat, and she becomes stuck-up again.
Chiming in with all three of you. I’ve quit watching for the “plot”, and tune in only to see the musical numbers (and Sue’s rants).
Agreed! I’ve gotten so tired of her character, which sucks b/c I’m a Lea fan.
Glee is the only show I can think of where the characters started out with nuance and layers, only to morph into flat stereotypical cartoons. It happened in the Sex and the City movies, but not during the show. Any Rachel-centric episode (as I’m afraid this one will be)is not a good one anymore. Her Tracy Flick persona has grown irritating and I’m hoping that she adds some more layers to Rachel soon because it’s a real damper of the show. I would like to see her relegated to a background character–she’s just not interesting anymore. I’m way more interested in even Mike Chang now.

I think Glee would do its self some good to keep Gwyneth around for the long run.. shes a celebrity guest star so the showrunners would still be getting their fix there but shes also very humanized and relatable. I find myself actually enjoying watching her with the glee kids. We’ve got the awesomeness that is Darren Criss, the surprisingly likable John Stamos, and now the wonderful Gwyneth Paltrow. why would you even NEED anymore guest stars?
I totally Agree! I was a huge NON fan of Gwyneth until I saw her in “Duets” and have been on her team ever since.
Seeing her finally singing on tv and movies (she just sang at the CMA’s the song from her new movie Country Strong?) makes me happy.
I doubt she’ll be a new full time character but a story arc is good enough. Nice to see her on TV!

personally i prefer this version of forget you to her song ncountry strong. imo all she does with country is pretend to be sheryl crow. close you eyes and listen to country strong and youll swear its crow singing. on this song however i was suprised at how well she did.

All the movies I’ve seen of Gywneth paltrow had really dry roles for her, even the Iron Man and its sequel. Gwyneth in Gless is quite a revelation, quite refreshing, and made me genuinely like her.

Honestly I’m sick of watching Rachel get always so obsessed with herself and that she HAS to be the best singer, when she is obviously not. She was like this against Sunshine (Charice) and now she is acting like that again against Gwyneth, who IMO, she should be giving some respect to as one the biggest, oldest well known names of Hollywood.

Ok, you DO realize that this is a TV show, and that “Rachel” doesn’t really hate Gweneth Paltrow, right? On the show, Paltrow’s character is not a famous Hollywood star that deserves “respect”. (And who says people from Hollywood deserve respect anyway?)

Yes, but she could make being “sour” a little more interesting. She could show some fear or desperation or sadness–something, anything other than the same old puss face every episode. Her acting is one note and people are getting bored with it. It wasn’t this bad in the first season. Has the actress gotten complacent and lazy? Maybe too much of her focus is spent on losing the weight that she never needed to lose. I don’t know, I’m just grasping at straws, but something is really wrong. I much prefer the shows that focus on any of the other characters.
Anything that upsets Rachel is okay by me. Maybe it’ll be enough for her to leave and she can be replaced by someone with talent.

Plot. Gwyneth and Lea later do a duet on Nowadays_Hot Honey Rag (both of Chicago) in the same episode (in the show, the leads are frenemies of the first order). It’s *awesome*. Matthew also does one of my favorite movie musical numbers EVER – Make ‘Em Laugh.

Jenn- the primary appeal of Glee is that most people can identify very deeply with at least one of the characters. They also tackle subjects that most shows wouldn’t touch with a ten foot pole. The music is the very least thing about it.

We criticize because we like the show, but see it slipping. The acting and plot/character development have become frustratingly stagnant because too much focus is on gimmicky themes and guest appearances. We just want it to be better, the way it started out to be. And BTW, wouldn’t message boards be pretty boring if everyone only had positive comments? I agree that abusive comments are not warranted, but come on, you really can’t tolerate a little criticism of a show that you don’t even work on?

As someone who liked Glee through the first half of the first season then gave up, I watched last week because Darren’s version of Teenage Dream was so good. It turned out to be the best part of the episode… Looks like, it’ll be two in a row for the “leaked” songs.

I think that what Gwyneth is lacking in her vocals, she and the rest of the group DEFINITELY made up for with their enthusiasm and they totally sold it. I mean I really did love this entire thing and it felt like so much fun; I wanted to be there! Dance party! I CAN’T WAIT FOR THIS EPISODE!!!

No it’s not GleeFan84 – it’s terrible! I don’t understand the need to take a song and make it “radio friendly.” If a person doesn’t approve of the original lyrics – they shouldn’t listen to it. The artist should also not re-record it, but they’re all in it for the money so that’s not likely.

Cee-lo and Bruno Mars wrote a *fantastic* song, but I have to say, I like the female (and edited) version better. The original is more a spherical, not terribly attractive, broke black guy whining about not getting the hottest girl around (go figure). The Glee version is much more positive and it lets the AMAZING (positive, energetic) music shine through. And eliminating the shock factor in the lyrics lets the rest of the lyric shine through better.

Didn’t expect it but kinda loving G. Paltrow. Duets taught me she could sing, but just the energy of this performance was so fun and up, now I’m officially excited for Tuesday.
