'Psych' season 6 scoop: Vampire, musical episodes in the works!

Psych-Dule-HillImage Credit: Williams + Hirakawa/USAYou haven’t even seen Psych‘s highly anticipated Twin Peaks homage episode yet (Dec. 1, hurry the hell up!), but the show is already looking to season 6. Oh, the perks of early renewal.

Series star James Roday (who penned the upcoming Peaks tribute and last season’s Hitchcock-inspired hour) told EW exclusively that the show has plans for a vampire-themed episode, a musical, and a nod to the greatest baseball movies of the past.

“We’re going to try to come up with something that feels relatively fresh because there’s already spoofs on spoofs on spoofs at this point,” he said of their fangy aspirations. “But if we got to the end of the run on the show and had never done anything with vampires, I certainly would regret it.”

The vampire spoof would likely air “relatively early in the season,” with the others to follow.

What say you, Psych-Os? Like what you’re hearing? And who wants to take the bet that Gus will be the recipient of the inevitable “There’s no crying in baseball” line?

    we are called Psych-O’s

So excited! Psych routinely has the best one-liners of any show. And for the baseball show, I bet it’s Corbin’s character telling Gus “There’s no crying in baseball” character and Lassie having some kind of Field of Dreams moment. Perhaps with the ghosts of all the squirrels…

    • Noodley

“Lassie having some kind of Field of Dreams moment”

      Amazing.

    • Samantha

Field of Dreams. Squirrels. I hope your predictions are right. They’re just so funny and fitting.

  • gah

Love it. SO happy it got a sixth season. Not sure why this show doesn’t have a bigger following.

  • Rebecca

I am psychically detecting that the baseball episode will be amazing!!! All those movie references!!! And hopefully in the vampire episode they will pay homage to the real vampires like Dracula and then they will make fun of the fake vampires from twilight.

    • alex

I know right! Shawn will probably say something like look Jules is sparkeling in the sunlight! She must be a vamp!

  • Kaitlin

“No crying in baseball” is certainly one that I will look forward to. Not to mention a nod to Major League!!

    • Abby

Is it in “Major League” too? Because I know for fact it’s in “A League of Their Own” when Tom Hanks is fussing at the players. One of my favorite lines from a movie ever!

      • Sue1

Bernsen was in “Major League”, I think that was the reference.

  • Katja

Good God, I love this show. Can’t wait for the musical episode – as evidenced by many a Psych-Out, these people can totally sing.

  • V

I’m soooo hoping that Twilight will be made fun of!

    • Erin

They already made thinly veiled jokes about Twilight, in Shawn 2.0?- whatever that first episode with Declan was, where Shawn read the teen-girl-geared book about vampire doctors- I can only imagine the jokes getting better in a vampire episode!

  • BJG

WHY Is this show NOT on broadcast NBC??? I don’t understand why NBC/Universal puts all the REALLY entertaining shows on USA and Syfy and put absolute crap on the actual network.

    • Mr. Holloway

      EXCELLENT question.

It’s not like NBC is flushed with shows on their primetime schedule that are significantly better than “Psych”, “White Collar”, “Burn Notice”, etc.

    • Noodley

I know. A few years ago NBC aired reruns of Psych and Monk on Sunday nights (I think). I wish they at least did that again. Or, USA Network: Psych marathons with older episodes, please! There’s only so many times I can watch the same episode of NCIS or SVU!

    • Hrfe

At least on USA the show can be a lot more creative, isn’t always getting pushed to get HUGE numbers- they get a lot more leeway with ratings, not that they need it of course!- and are not forced to have more episodes then they can creatively create. That’s how they avoid a slump I think.

      • Anneka

While I truly mourn the difficulties that the NBC shows have, I want to the the gems of USA as far away as possible from the executive morons who ruin good programming for ratings.

  • Jenny

    Amen, BJG…Amen.

  • Carrie Ann

I’m on board for anything they come up with. I love this show.

  • Christina

Yay! I love Psych and it makes me happy to see Psych news on EW. I love musicals and think the musical episode will be amazing. Dule and James have great voices. So excited :)

  • jane1982

Hopefully the vampire episode will have an homage to True Blood/ Vampire Diaries that includes some shirtless Shawn/ Gus!

  • Ovaltine Jenkins

I’m hoping for Corbin to bust out some Roger Dorn lines from Major League.

  • Scott

Great show that seldom disappoints. The musical should have a song-and-dance number starring Lassie and how much he loves shooting squirrels. One of the funniest parts of Major League is when Dorn complains his contract prohibits extra calisthenics and Lou, without saying a word, drops the contract on the field, pisses on it, and then keeps walking. It would be funny as hell if Corbin Bernsen made a reference to that.

    • Anneka

Gus needs his own number too. Totally love the way that man moves.

      • j

        I hear that. What?!

  • KiKi

I love this show, but since I neither had any interest in nor ever watched Twin Peaks, I guess I’ll pass on that episode since I won’t get all the in-jokes.

    • Katja

I have no idea what Twin Peaks is even about, and I so don’t care. Psych is hilarious even when you don’t get all the references!

      • ShawnNGus4Eva ;-)

Hulu has all Twin Peaks episodes…
I LOVE LOVE LOVE Psych! :-)
