It's official: 'Medium' is over

medium_l.jpg Image Credit: Mitchell Haaseth/NBC Medium series creator Glenn Gordon Caron confirmed via Facebook what his star Patricia Arquette already told EW: CBS has canned the drama.

“It’s true,” he wrote on Medium’s Facebook page. “Allison Dubois will dream her last dream on Medium Friday, January 21st. In what we believe will be a series defining episode,  Allison and her family will stare destiny in the eye. And destiny will not blink.”

CBS cut the episodic order on Medium from 22 to 13 last month. The drama is currently averaging 7.1 million viewers.

What a stupid decision by CBS. Any other show in the death slot won’t get anywhere near the same numbers.

    • mkm

I couldn’t agree more! Since when is 7.1 million viewers on a Friday night a cancelable offense? I’m really going to miss this show – it’s unique and interesting every week.

    • Crazy Universe We Live In

And the same network keep the crazy Charlie Sheen on! I don’t get it.

      • Buck

Ahem! Excuse me, but Charlie Sheen just happens to be the star of television’s currently highest rated sitcom. “Two and a Half Men” gets ratings! “The Medium” doesn’t even come close. Why do you think NBC dumped it in the first place?

    • Rock Golf

Medium was both rare, and well done.

      • Deb

Brilliantly summed up. I am going to miss this show so much.

      • dipshat

The only show i watch on television. Only. Also one of the best TV dramas of all time. Gonna miss it much.

    • tom

i still want to f____ jake gylenhall….yummy chest

    • Anita

I thank it is not fear to take off the Medium since it is a good show. I watch this show all the time and I also enjoy it very much. I am waiting until Allison to dream another dream to help out the her co-workers get the bad guys. Please don’t take off this show. Take off something else beside this show.

      Heidi, I don’t get it.

    • Flip

At least they’re giving it a proper ending.

Now you Medium fans know how we Ghost Whisperer fans felt!!

      • Ronie

Yeah I’m PO’d about ghost whisperer. I loved that show n medium. Now I’m double PO’d!!!!!! Mayb we all should just watching freakn CBS altogether untill they pit the shows back on! G. W. Was just getting soooo good.

    • Jane

This is a crying shame. Medium is so innovative, well-written, well-acted and is one of my favorites. Any chance they could get picked up by Lifetime or something? Other than props and makeup, that show can’t be too expensive to make.

  • Lily

Very sad. First Ghost Whisperer and now Medium. Friday nights will be bereft.

  • Bobby F

That is too bad. I have watched this show since it began and love it. Isn’t 7.1 million average viewers enough to keep it? Sheesh.

    • Steven

7.1 isn’t bad, but the numbers in the 18-49 demo have been horrible and that’s what really matters.

      • nick

dude..it wins the demo every week…yeah, its small but compared to what other shows are doing and what any new show could do..it doesnt make sense.

      • Lia

        Agreed, so dumb

      • Heidi

ugh. I look forward to it on Fridays. so what if its not winning their key demographic if its still winning against everything else its up against in its timeslot?!! I don’t get it.

      • Moriah

I guess it’s betting on the idea a new show could do better…which worked so well this season for every station!

    • WNC girl

I too have watched it from the beginning, and over 7 million for a Friday night sounds pretty good. I love it and will miss it. But as long as it doesn’t just end (like Sarah Connor Chronicles)if the story gets told and there is a finale, I’ll be ok. I do get a little tired of “Allison, I don’t understand what your saying” “How can I believe you even though you have solved so many crimes before, what makes you think you can this time” LOL

  • davey

Wow – isn’t 7.1 million viewers alot for a Friday night? That would be high for most shows on regular nights, wouldn’t it?

  • Steven

I’m excited to see how they end it. I wonder what he means by that?

The ratings just haven’t been where they should be and 7 years is a damn good run!

  • tvgirl48

I have to admit, that is a pretty impressive following for the death slot. Especially this long into the show’s run. I actually wasn’t even aware this show was still on, so kudos to maintaining that viewership level!

  • Justin

Well, it was good while it lasted. I’ll miss you, Medium.

  • Nathan

    It won’t be missed.

    • Carla G

      Says you

    • RK

      Troll.

    • Ronie

N your one of the reasons it’s getting cut. Thanks.

  • Dreamer

Boo! Here goes another good series while reality tv continues to grow. Wish SYFY would pick it up

  • Jen

This is terrible news. Medium has one of the best portrayals of a family on tv right now. The show was rejuvinated by the move to CBS and I’d love to see it at least finish the season.

    • Heidi

agreed – real marriage, real kids behaviour and issues…the fact that Alison and two of her children have giftings doesn’t make the show any less real. I will miss this.

  • robinepowell

I’m not surprised by the news. When CBS said they were cutting back episodes, that was a death knoll.

One of the reasons, it might have been doing so bad, is because it’s on earlier then it used to be.

What’s funny is last season, CBS said they were happy to have Medium, which is exactly the opposite of their attitude this year.

  • I love how ungrateful Medium fans are. Your show would have been canceled had CBS not picked it up and given it an extra 2 seasons of life. Some shows don’t make it past 2 episodes, let alone 2 EXTRA SEASONS. Be grateful that your show had a great run and enjoy the last batch of episodes. Jeez.

  • Matt

Good job, CBS, you bunch of morons. Good luck filling in that time slot.

  • Really?

Lame! What do they expect putting it on Friday nights? Also that’s a good number for that night. Very irritating that they saved it from NBC but ended up doing the same thing. I guess it’s a good think it’s getting a proper good-bye. I think too that this show/family is the most realistic on the air. It’s too bad! :(

  • jj

Yes, I hope Sy Fy will pick it up. They would be smart to do so. And they can begin Ghost Whisperer again, too.

    • Ronie

      Yeah!!!!

    • Cyndy

I so agree with you. I hate that both were canceled. Maybe I hope they can come up with a new one of Medium or Ghost Whisper type of show. I will miss both!!!!!!!!
