'Ace of Cakes' to hang up its apron

Food Network

Sour news for a sweet show: Food Network has confirmed with EW that after four-and-a-half years, Ace of Cakes will end its series run in February 2011. The decision to cancel the series was a mutual one between star Duff Goldman and the Food Network; Duff remains in active discussions about continuing his presence on the network, a spokesperson for the Food Network told EW. But never fear; if you head to Baltimore, Md., you can still have your cake and eat it too: Charm City Cakes — the bakery featured on the program — still remains in operation. “We were here before the cameras, and we’ll be here when they’re gone,” a rep for the bakery told EW via email. “People will always want cakes, and we make awesome cakes. Nuff said.”

NOooooooo!!! Ace of Cakes is so much better than Cake Boss. No yelling or stereotypes and really awesome cakes!

aw man, this totally ruined my night! and the above poster is right, Ace of Cakes is far better than Cake Boss. DONT LEAVE US DUFF!!!

  • Megan

I am sooooo sad!!!!! Ace of Cakes is one of my favorites!!!!!!!!!! I’ll miss Duff’s hilarious laugh! He’s one of my very favorite people on TV! Best of luck Duff & Co.

  • Kim

That’s too bad. I like this show.

  • Slezak

You get better cakes at Walmart.

    • CJ

Really?! So you bought one of Charm City Cakes to know that as fact. I have and not only are they fantastic in appearance but are tasty as well.

      • Slezak

I had one as well paid good money for it. The design fell apart and it had dirt and hair all over it.

    • Jason

      I’m calling BS on Slezak.

Duff and his crew are so funny, creative, and genuine. So sad to see this show leave, but I am sure that the staff and Duff would like a little bit of a private life back. Thanks for showing us what goes into making awesome cakes!

  • Jimmy

By “mutual decision” I assume they mean Duff wanted more money and FN, never known for being free with the cash, probably said no. It’s the Food Network’s loss.

Sad news. It was a nice show. Everybody was unique.
Every time I see “Cake boss” I change the channel. No class whatsoever…

    • Marie

I agree. I love everybody in Ace of Cakes – funny and not coming out as trying hard to be funny. I only watched the other cake show once and the yelling by everybody was grating I had to change channels right away and I’ve never watched again. I hope Ace of Cakes transfers to another network/channel.

Oh No!! I love Ace of Cakes. They make the best cakes and they are amazing. But, it is better to bow out as the best and first of the Cake shows at the top. The other shows about Cakes/Cupcakes are not as good. Duff and Co. make the best cakes for sure, their technique is flawless and the talent is out of this world. Best wishes to Charm City Cakes and when I am back in Baltimore I hope to stop by and peak in the windows and maybe catch a sound of Duff laugh!!

Anyone want to bet that the “rep for the bakery” is Mary Alice? The statement sounds like something she would say…

  • Luiza

Geoff is my favorite. My favorite episode of Ace of Cakes was the one in the 2nd or 3rd season when they were building the brownstone cake and Geoff took the cameras on a tour of his neighborhood.

  • dawn

Don’t know how the cake shop is going to continue….they won’t give you prices but have to put down a $1000 deposit for a cake. People won’t be able to afford that in this economy

  • Michael

Can Iron Cheif American be nexts that show is so stuipd now hell the dude who brought it to american has left

  • Modern

Ace of Cakes is a fun show. I will miss it as well. We have the Ace of Cakes book and it is an interesting read. Now we have to get the dvd’s.

  • Suebecca

This sucks. I wish they were just getting rid of Lauren on the show… not stopping it. *sigh*
