'Spartacus: Gods of the Arena' exclusive trailer: Blood, lust, and bloodlust (Watch here)

While you wait for Starz to (hopefully) resume Spartacus: Blood and Sand next year (sadly, without Andy Whitfield), tide yourself over with this exclusive trailer for Spartacus: Gods of the Arena, the prequel to the network’s beloved series. And Jupiter’s c—, does it look like appointment viewing! Blood! Sex! More blood! More sex! The prequel — airing Jan. 21 — follows champion gladiator Gannicus (Dustin Clare) and Batiatus (John Hannah), who seeks to overthrow his father. Along with Hannah, expect to see other Blood and Sand alums in the prequel: Lucy Lawless reprises her role as Lucretia, and Peter Mensah returns to play Oenomaus. Enjoy the exclusive trailer — and its shirtless stars — after the jump. Careful parents — this somewhat NSFW trailer isn’t for the kiddies.

If Spartacus is not in this movie why not just call it Gods of the Arena? I would watch it even without the obvious sales pitch yet unnecessary reference to Spartacus.

Um, because other people might not be aware it’s a direct prequel, otherwise. Even people who had seen Spartacus may not know it’s part of the same series without the indicator.

        Then they are idiots.

this is wack they not staying on track with it who wanna see a remake and with wack ass actor lol

Paul Telfer would also be a great replacement for Andy. Not that I’m not saddened by his pulling out of the series. I’ve always been a fan of his ever since i saw him the indie film Gabriel.

omg, i miss so much spartacus!!!!!

I feel like I’ll be cheating on Andy Whitfield by watching the show without him…I just feel horrible from him. And what happens in a year if he makes it through treatments and is cleared to come back? Does Starz then fire the replacement actor and bring back Andy? AAAAAHHHHH!!!! I hate this!

    • Shannon S.

…meant to say “feel horrible FOR him.” Whoops.

  • Fido

trailer makes it look simply like Season1 remade with a different character – hopefully this quickly turns out to be incorrect cos I miss my weekly dose of half naked beefy men drawing blood, severing each others limbs and macking on babes :)

yah, i’m not a big lover sans andy.

“waiting to resume Blood and Sand”? This is the network’s sly way of resuming it without Andy! they’re continuing the series by not totally betraying Andy and if Andy comes back they can make room for both. EW loves to act blind to corporate machinations.

Except for this was in the works way before Andy got cancer … I remember hearing about this after like the first or second episode aired. Also, they are still going ahead with Blood and Sand at the same time.

  • TheDude

Lane…they already tried that plan. Andy attempted to come back and then dropped out again for good. Recasting is coming very soon.

  • bruno

    miss andy already

Great article. I can¡¯t wait to hear more about your research tool. If it is as good as your other products, then you will have another winner. Your article pretty much summed up what I have been seeing too. Great to see some hard data.
