Jane Lynch and Carol Burnett sing 'Ohio': Why, oh why doesn't Sue sing more?

Why did Sue Sylvester’s mom leave Ohio? Well, based on this duet from Tuesday’s episode of Glee, it might not have everything to do with hunting Nazis, as Sue once claimed. And it’s too bad Sylvestor Senior (played by comedy legend Carol Burnett) skipped town — the duo seem to pair together in perfect harmony. No, really: The vaudeville-esque “Ohio” from the 1953 musical Wonderful Town showcases both their wonderful voices — and makes you wonder why Sue doesn’t ditch the tater tot talk for more singing. Click the jump to hear the wonderful duet!

    FIRST!!!

Hey, EW needs more GLEE coverage.

    • Gleek

Hey, there’s never enough GLEE coverage on EW.com. Every blogger must post every week at least one entry on GLEE. TV coverage, music coverage, movie coverage on the hoped-for GLEE movie, book coverage, stage coverage, etc. Every article that only tangetially has to do with GLEE must have GLEE in the headline. All GLEE all the time!

    • Scooter

as long as readers keep clicking and commenting on the Glee coverage, EW.com will continue to write it. so quit your complaining, and stop reading if it bothers you. jeez.

  • Kim

I LOVE Carol Burnett! Can’t wait to see this episode.

  • chattypatra

This is mesmerizing. Carol Burnett is so fantastic in everything she does! I wish we this level of quality on the show every week. I am truly looking forward to this episode!

    • LMNOP

Carol Burnett should be the next Betty White. She’s as talented if not more talented than Betty White (not sure if she can match Betty for the “innocent” act, though), but for young people who don’t know who she is, you are really missing out with this woman!

      • Woot

Well to be fair most people know her as Miss Hannigan from Annie.

      • jared4ever

I would say more talented actually. As much as i love Betty White… Carol Burnett is a comedy genius. AND she can sing!

  • Jackie

Fantastic! I cant wait! The casting at Glee is fabulous! I love Tuesdays!

  • Rebecca

I’d never heard this song before, and as someone who grew up in Ohio but moved to the South recently, it made me smile. :)

  • mscisluv

This is really beautiful! This makes me think of when we first saw Vocal Adrenaline, and they started off their verson of “Rehab” singing something about Ohio. Anyone know what that was from?

    • SAinSA

The 3x repeated “Ohio’s” are very reminscent of the melody and last word of Ohio State University’s Alma Mater, “Ohio.” (OSU alum.) Factoid: The backdrop behind Sue during “Sue C’s It” is actually downtown Columbus, Ohio–nowhere near Lima. Cleveburg would be more appropriate.

    • SAinSA

Correction, “Carmen Ohio” (got ahead of myself).

      • SAinSA*

        Note to self:
If I’m going to be a know-it-all smartypants, I should get my facts straight before I start typing.

      • Michael

Nope, I was too. But the “Ohio” they sang was probably a better fit for those two. I’d never heard of the song, though.

  • adam

Am I the only one who was expecting the Neil Young song?

    • Sarah

      I totally did. Too bad!

    • Stevex

Right there with ys, Adam. I could see Jane Lynch singing Neil, but the idea of Carol Burnett warbling “Four dead in Ohio” is just too weird.

  • Dena

I was expecting the Bowling for Soup song…

  • Close One

Phew, almost thought EW wouldn’t hit the Glee quota for today.

    • Gleek and Proud

You’re aware that your comment just adds to the likelyhood of them posting more since it’s all about posts, right?

      • Gleek and Proud

        *likelihood

      • Charlie Baltimore

But it also helps to get across how effing tired a great many of us are of the constant Glee coverage.

      • VA

@Baltimore — except you whiners are in the minority. When the volume of posting reaching in the hundreds with the percentage of those that like sitting around 90% — you losers are just that..losers. If you don’t like the coverage then stop reading and move on. Geesh.

  • Gator

I can’t wait to see this. Carol Burnett on Glee just equals awesome!!

  • tvfan

People complain about EW’s supposedly unending Glee coverage, but honestly, I think there are more Dancing With The Stars posts on EW.com than Glee updates. People should just face it; some of us really like this show and we want to read about it!

    • CJ

And the complainers about the coverage need to remember that, as with most entertainment coverage, EW will cover that which is popular in the entertainment world. Right now that is Glee, DWTS, Harry Potter, House, and soon American Idol. I don’t believe I ever saw EW claim they provided fair and balanced reporting on every possible thing in Hollywood. They cover what they know people will read. For those that don’t like it, should just either stop reading the post they aren’t interested in (no one is forcing you to click a button) and find a different site such as Deadline that just does updates on casting and such.

      • Bri

        y so mad?

      • Rolo Tomasi

Glee isn’t even ranked in the top 20 most watched TV shows. Doesn’t sound too popular to me

      • murley

what cracks me up is you have to click the article to post a comment and by doing so you increase the stats for the article. ew is going to put articles on their website that garner traffic. don’t want glee articles? don’t help make them so popular. the truth is, most of these negative posters just want people to hear them complain.

  • Claire

Excited about this duet, but at the back of my mind: when is Darren Criss coming back?

    • BethTalksTV

      Ditto

  • BJohnson

Why do you assume people didn’t realize that Jane Lynch was this talented until Glee. When I saw Best in Show, I saw genius. Awesome casting this season!

  • Tom

WHY THE FVCK DO PEOPLE CLICK ON A LINK ABOUT GLEE ONLY TO COMPLAIN ABOUT IT? IF YOU DON’T LIKE ALL THE GLEE COVERAGE, THEN GET YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR @SS AND DON’T CLICK ON THE ARTICLE! DVMB@SSES!

    • TorontoTom

      EXACTLY!

    • bootsycolumbia

      AGREED!!!

    • Mark S

      CAPITAL LETTERS!!!

  • Bridget

Loved it!! I can’t wait to see this episode! Love Jane Lynch & Carol Burnett!
