In the words of the immortal Pointer Sisters, “I’m so excited/ And I just can’t hide it/ I’m about to lose control and I think I like it.” Yes, reality TV fans, Fox has just unleashed the first promo spot for the fall 2011 premiere of the U.S. version of The X Factor, and after the jump, EW has your exclusive first look! It’s short, it’s simple, it’s got a slight Battlestar Galactica vibe, and it answers the question that’s been floating in my head for the last year or so: Can I be equally excited for the return of American Idol and the much-buzzed-about American incarnation of Simon Cowell’s popular British singing competition? Long answer: Can I be equally excited for tomorrow’s stuffing and mashed potatoes? Short answer: Oh hell yeah! Check out the promo for yourself, and then head to the comments to tell us what you think: Who’s stoked for The X Factor? Does this promo get you a’tinglin’? All must be revealed! (And for all my Idol- and X Factor-related scoop, follow me on Twitter @EWMichaelSlezak.)

I just got chills. It’s a TERRIBLE promo… but I can not wait for XFactor to hit the US. It’s about time.
Terrible commercial.
Michael Slezak,
Did you get an exclusive or money on the side to promote that?
Terrible promo and not forth mentioning or getting excited for.
that was stupid. wanna see the show sure, but that was just dumb.
I agree. Completely lame.
I predict X Factor is going to be the big hit, and American Idol is going to go down. All the former AI watchers are going to watch X Factor instead of AI. Simon is the reason AI worked, and without him, it’s not going to work.
You could watch BOTH!!! X-Factor will be on around Sept-Dec. American Idol will be on from Jan-May. Both on Fox.
But I do agree with you, AI sucks!!!!!
That was so lame.
It was! So BORING! I was interested in seeing the show (I’ll still check it out), but that did NOTHING for me. Boo!
STUPID promo.
Would have worked better if they used the already iconic theme from the UK version. Play it enough times before the Fall 2011 premiere and people will have it stuck in their heads.
I’m excited where and when are tryouts in US?
Slezak, I’m obsessed with the X Factor. Seriously, you should get me to help cover it. I will do your bidding.
But please, for the love of X-Factor God, don’t give us weekly doses of Mariah.
Well, that was underwhelming.
Yes! It’s time for America to have it’s own Wagner, its own Jon & Edward, it’s own Same Difference!
If you have no idea what I’m talking about, you haven’t lived yet. Google ‘em.
Ha ha, our poor American cousins don’t know what’s gonna hit them!
We are in trouble! The whole Wagner v Cheryl thing is so for the ratings. That Cher is kind of stalker-ish!
This week Wagner is singing Radiohead’s “Creep”.
He brings a whole new meaning to the lines “What the hell am I doing here? I don’t belong here.”
“I don’t belong here.”
You know what: I CAN’T WAIT to audition! I want to be America’s version of Rebecca Ferguson!! We’re the same age and we’re both young mothers (I’m a mom to one boy). I got the talent!! I’m pumped!
X Factor UK is one of my favorite shows so I can’t wait for Us X Factor. I have to watch the UK version online every weekend. It has it’s own Bristol Palin this season in the form of a contestant named Wagner, who has a real shot at making the finals as well even though he is a horrible singer lol..he can be entertaining though. I read that most of his voters are only voting for him to get back at Simon and Cheryl Cole..
I get the show in the Netherlands and Simon Cowell is genious. The show is better produced and the judges mentor certain acts and have the ability to save acts. The production value, staging are WAY better than AI. Be ready to like it, and I sure hope they can sign Cheryl Cole and dismiss the idea of Mariah Carey if that’s still possible.
Unbelievable that Simon Cowell is considering paying convicted assailant Cheryl Cole (aka CHERYL TWEEDY) to be a judge on the XFactor. Charged with racially-aggravated assault and simple assault, the drunken Cole/Tweedy was convicted on the latter charge for assaulting a bathroom attendant. Who needs this kind of trash in our screens?
@GirlfriendinaComa Firstly, there is no chance Cheryl will get the gig. People like Mariah are after this job, Simon isn’t going to pick an unknown whose accent can barely be understood outside her neighbourhood. Secondly, considering she was married to a black man, the racial assault charge was ridiculous. Get back to your coma now.
PAULA BETTER BE ON IT!!!
Seriously hope Paula Abdul will be on this!!! I am very excited if she is!
i’m kinda over these shows; have been for awhile.
apparently not over them enough to stop talking about it.
That’s it? Looks like a teaser ad for a science fiction monster movie. Which makes it oddly appropriate, somehow. The FX Factor.
Wonder if we’ll be able to see the strings on the puppets, or will they CGI them out just like the autotune can take care of the voices?
No thanks, I’ll pass.
The X Factor is the best reality tv show EVER!
I’m so excited.
PAULA ABDUL 4 X FACTOR! I truly hope to see her on that show next fall! Paula & Simon reunion 2011!!!
Don’t hold your hopes up. Paula’s committed to CBS indefinitely, as she’s doing “Live To Dance,” an American adaptation of the UK’s “Got To Dance.”
should go to blog site Remote Patrolled – tonnes of X Factor coverage there
Very excited for the return of Idolatry in just a few weeks. Missed Slezak!
What the hell was that?
It’s kind of like choosing between stuffing and mashed potatoes, if the stuffing is homemade from scratch, and the mashed potatoes are premade potato buds. Although after this year, it may be like comparing Stove Top stuffing to the potato buds.
This mean it’s ‘Live from NY?’ That’d be cool.
