Eliza Dushku flocks to 'Bird Dog' pilot

Eliza-Dushku_240.jpg Image Credit: Jon Kopaloff/FilmMagic.com Eliza Dushku is ready to kick ass again: EW has confirmed the Dollhouse star is set to lead TNT’s Bird Dog pilot. According to Deadline, the project centers on a father-daughter cop team — Dushku will play the daughter, who doesn’t have a close relationship with her father, outside of being his partner. Warner Horizon is set to produce the pilot.

If it is pure action, and no drama nor comedy, then Dushku might be right for the part.

If there is even the slightest need for drama or comedy, then the show is doomed to failure. No ifs, ands or buts about it…

This has ”crapfest” written all over it. If Joss can’t make her seem like a believable actress, no one can.
She royally sucked on Dollhouse, was just ‘blah’ on Tru Calling, and on Buffy? The rest of the cast acted circles around her, but she was fine. She did what was written, but didn’t have the chops to do something really interesting with that role.
I’d like to see her take a lead role in AN ACTING CLASS.

    • Tristan

Kinda sad; I hope they change the title instead of dooming the project by calling it a “dog,” makes it too easy for reviewers to trash it. Plus the daddy angle doesn’t fly, would be cooler if it was a Giles/Watcher character than her dad, and make him younger, more Michael Vartanesque, make her a spy, rename it Alias, and I’m in.

      • David

don’t care about the title, sad dusku is doing a crap cop drama. All her leads in tv shows have been sci-fi’sh so I would have rather seen her do something original like that instead of another crap cop show…

  • A

    A father-daughter cop team? Riiiiiiight.

    • Tristan

Actually they are retooling the show, the father and daughter will now be junk dealers who fight with each other and crabby Aunt Esther.

      • Cygnus

Tristan, lol, i think it’d be a better product in that format. Eliza is HAWT, but always seems grossly out of place and uncomfortable in any role she has.

    • ItSmellsFunny

Wasn’t this called “Alias”? Real original.

  • JJ

If this character is anything like Faith then she’ll be great for it…beyond that…well, I’m not so sure.

    • anya

Eliza Dushku has played a character who wasn’t like Faith?

  • bruno

when will the powers that be stop shoving this girl down our throat? buffy, yes? everything after as the lead, jells no. i’m STILL trying to recover from tru calling, let alone dollhouse….

    • ani

aw..i liked tru calling…moreso for the concept than the execution, but still

    • Trey

No one is shoving her down our throats, idiot.

      • D’s Advocate

I’m aware of many, many people who would *love* to have Eliza Dushku shoved down their throat, but that’s neither here nor there.

      • bruno

yes trey. 3 shows in, what? 6 yrs?…i’m the idiot. how about she admits her suckage and goes away for a while, s’all i’m sayin

      • Michael

Uh…yeah they are. There are tons of talented actresses in the business who haven’t seen the steady work she’s seen. Kinda like CBS shoving the Moonlight guy down our throats. He’s nice to look at but he’s a terrible actor.

      • Julie

No one is shoving anything down your throat. If you don’t like her, don’t watch the show. It’s simple, really.

    • Nathan

It would be better to shove something down Dushku’s throat I’d imagine.

      • Jay

        Ew. Misogynist much?

  • HD

Is it too late for that Faith spin-off?

    • Jason

I agre. A Faith spin-off was her best bet and probably the Best bet for the Buffyverse to be continued. I hate when actors get all ” I want to try other types of roles1″ Take a lesson from Kelsey Grammar. He played Frasier Crane for 20 years and got ultra rich because when Cheers was over after nine seasons. He wasn’t afraid to take the character to his own show. And eveything he’s done since has been a complete failure. Sound familiar Eliza?

      • Adam

In Kelsey Grammer’s defense, not everything he has done since Frasier has been a failure. He stars in the Broadway musical La Cage aux Folles, for which he was nominated for a Tony Award earlier this year. But I understand the point of your comment.

      • D’s Advocate

Yeah, Jason, shame on people for wanting to branch out. By that logic, one should, for example, work at Taco Bell for their entire life.

      • Isabel

Kelsey Grammer a failure? No! Haven’t you seen the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills?!

      • Jason

Ok! I’m just bitter that Joss wanted to do a Faith spin off with her and she decided to do Tru Calling instead! I guess her development deal where she produces TV shows is over if she’s doing a non-fox Pilot!

      • bruno

no, i agree with u dude. feel like a faith spin would’ve been the best option. it was the only thing she was interesting enough in…

      • Michael

Just to correct you dude, Cheers was for 11 seasons. Grammar did only play Frasier on that show for 9 but Cheers ran for 11 seasons.

  • Nathan

Good looking girl, but everything she does seems to fail almost instantly. I say it’s time for adult films for Ms Dushku!

    • reason

it is true what they say, one person’s trash is another’s treasure. Because I think Dushku is fabulous.

      • tweedleV

I liked Dollhouse in season 2 it got really good. But shes not that great a actress sorry to say. She kicks ass well.

  • SKK

I just don’t like her as an actress, don’t think she has the chops to carry off being the lead in a show. She should stick to supporting or guest roles.

  • Adam

Bird Dog? Who comes up with these lame titles for TV shows?

    • Tristan

Those prima donna manatees, man. Think they know everything with their fins and their fishy attitude.

      • Adam

        Haha! Awesome SP reference.

    • James

I was hoping they’d call it “Mac and Cheese”.

      • KD

        LOL–awesome reference.

  • DJ

Glad to here she’s playing the daughter. She’s okay, but I don’t think she could pull off the father role.

    • Hobbes

      Ha! Thanks for the chuckle.

    • anya

      Hahaha! Good one.

  • Rack

Well good for her. Glad to see she’s coming back to TV, but another cop show on TNT? Hopefully, it will be better than Rizzoli & Isles.

    • Nona

Hopefully, it will get the high ratings that Rizzoli & Isles manages despite it’s below average writing. I love the two main characters but they really need to improve the stories in season 2.

  • sydney

Father-daughter, strained relationship, same line of work? Alias anyone? (No, my name being Sydney has nothing to do with my point). I’ll be curious to see who plays her dad, that could make a big difference, she was so good as Faith when she had other good people to interact with.

    • KM

The second I read this article, I thought of “Alias” too. Glad I’m not the only one! I’m thinking it’s time to get Victor Garber back on the small screen on a weekly basis. Though admittedly it would sting to watch him play the father to anyone other than Jen Garner…

  • gah

i’m glad i’m not the only person who thinks she’s a terrible actress. i think she peaked at true lies.

  • DMSJSU

No Bird Dog for me, thanks. I’ll stick with my current fav show, Cat Turtle.

    • Karl

I didn’t like Cat Turtle though… for me, Hamster Fish rocked as a spinoff.

    • Sam

Bird Dog is an actual name for a type of dog. Idiot.

      • Mas

I like when idiots call other people idiots because they’re idiots.

  • Jen E.

I gotta say, I’m usually one to call out bad actors…but I don’t get all the Eliza-bashing. I don’t think she needs to clear a shelf for future Oscars, but I also don’t think she’s destined for the porn industry.

    • Jennifer Truth

Well said. She is very attractive so she deserves to be cut a break for not being able to act.

  • Jennifer Truth

    …Pilot…on TNT…Father-Daughter anything…

    Strike 3.
