'The Walking Dead' scares up biggest ratings yet

AMC’s monster hit The Walking Dead showed just how alive it with its ratings last night, producing its biggest numbers yet with 5.6 million viewers. That’s up from 4.8 million last week and edges out the show’s premiere, which garnered 5.3 million, for the series’ top ratings spot. In the highly coveted 18-49 age bracket, the penultimate episode notched 3.7 million of viewers.

“Mad Men” better up its game — like, ASAP!

  • Matt1

This is the best show on television right now (until Californication FINALLY comes back) and I’m glad it’s catching on!

    • Justin

Good call on Californication. I love that show, too!

    • RCB

i think it’s a tie between the walking dead and fringe.

      • anonymous

        … fringe… mmm ; )

      • darthwilson

I agree! This and Fringe are the best shows on TV right now

      • Mike

        yup!

    • Oh no!

Gotta go with Dexter as best show on TV today. Awesome.

      • Mike

Yeah, can’t argue with that either. I thought season 5 would not be able to match season 4 but it has been fantastic!

  • maggie

I wish this series was more episodes, but not too many maybe 15 or 16?

    • Adam

I think they only did a 6 episode season because they weren’t really sure how successful it would be. Fortunately, season 2 will be 12 or 13 episodes, which is standard for a cable series.

    • Skip182

They only did 6 because they didn’t have enough time to do more by the time they were needed. Season 2 has been scheduled for either 13 or 16 episodes, but i forgot which one.

      • Ian

It’s 13. I think they made a smart move only making 6. It allowed them to get it on the air for Halloween, which also gave them a week of heavy promotion during their week of horror classics, which is their highest rated week. All god strategies and now people will be clamoring for season 2.

    • Rush

This is how AMC rolls. Breaking Bad’s frist season was the same.

      • Zakry

        That’s exactly right.

  • Janell

I am really into this series. It shows the long-term effects on society and how the survivors cope. I just wish there were more episodes this first season!

  • Kevin

I love that this show is getting the attention it deserves. It’s just to bad that we probably won’t see Season 2 until next Halloween.

  • freckles

agreed….oct 31 of next year seems soo far away. really enjoying this show.

    • Lucy

I know, that’s why I taped them!!! I will watch them over and over!!

  • ann

    The new True Blood.

    • A

True Blood was never this good.

      • Leeann

True Blood is the BEST show on cable EVER. Walking Dead is an awesome show, but, dosent even come close to the hotness of True Blood.

      • Oh no!

        1) Dexter
        2) True Blood
        3) Walkng Dead

    • anonymous

Please stop comparing The Walking Dead to other shows. It stands alone, one of a kind.

      • Mike

Yes it does. But I still think it warrants comparison. But I wouldn’t compare it to the Gore-tastic Summer Guilty Pleasure. I’d compare it to LOST with rich character stories and tale of survival that rivals LOST’s 1st season. The only other comparison I’d make to LOST is that I’m almost as excited on Sundays as I was on a Tues, Weds or Thurs when LOST aired. And that honor is bestowed over time! But yes, other than that, the show stands on its own as a great work of television art. The Walking Dead has had a phenomenal run and it’s going to be a long year to wait for season 2 after this Sunday!

  • larry kwiatkowski

Love this show!Hate having to wait till next October for new episodes!

  • Shay

The Walking Dead is worthy of all the accolades from the critics and the public. Great cast, great story, great zombies. Fantastique !

  • Lola

    So proud. :’)

  • Casey

Happy to hear about the high ratings. Great cast, great writing, great show and I don’t even like zombie movies.

    • Butter

Same here! I have never watched a zombie movie but I find myself waiting for Sunday to come just so I can watch this show.

  • mia

Next October? That really is an awful long time. Maybe they’ll bump it up a couple of months like like August.

  • zach

awesome show, and i used to hate t.v.

  • Greg

Ha! And NBC turned this show down. (thank God) This just proves that great TV is not going

  • Shellibelli

Not the best show on Tv but pretty darn good. Terriers everyone! watch it on FX! tues 10pm

    • Jay

      Here here! Terriers is fantastic!

    • Phil

Some fan you are. Terriers airs Wednesdays at 10pm on F/X unless, maybe you reside in Canada?! I dunno, but Tuesdays at 10pm here in the U.S. is Sons of Anarchy, but both shows end with their season finales this week (tomorrow & Wednesday night).

    • Woot

While your on FX also watch Archer. The funniest comedy I have seen in a long time.
