Jane Lynch and Carol Burnett sing 'Ohio': Why, oh why doesn't Sue sing more?

Categories: Glee, Jane Lynch, Television

Why did Sue Sylvester’s mom leave Ohio? Well, based on this duet from Tuesday’s episode of Glee, it might not have everything to do with hunting Nazis, as Sue once claimed. And it’s too bad Sylvestor Senior (played by comedy legend Carol Burnett) skipped town — the duo seem to pair together in perfect harmony. No, really: The vaudeville-esque “Ohio” from the 1953 musical Wonderful Town showcases both their wonderful voices — and makes you wonder why Sue doesn’t ditch the tater tot talk for more singing. Click the jump to hear the wonderful duet! READ FULL STORY »

'Dexter' producer dishes on Sunday's episode 'Teenage Wasteland'; plus, two exclusive clips from the episode!

Categories: Dexter, Television

Randy Tepper/Showtime

“Take It” took it to another level: Last week’s episode of Dexter was a highlight of the season. But with self-help guru Jordan Chase on Dexter’s mind, a highly motivated Lumen at his side, and Quinn’s boy Liddy hot on his trail, there is no time for you to savor — only time to brace for a new episode titled “Teenage Wasteland,” which airs on Sunday. What to expect from the killer thriller’s upcoming installment? Dexter executive producer Manny Coto drops four hints below. (As a bonus, we also come bearing two exclusive clips of “Teenage Wasteland.”)

Tease No. 1: “This episode marks a large step forward in how Dexter views Lumen because Deborah comes to the realization that there is someone else in Dexter’s life, and Dexter has to figure out a way how to explain who Lumen is and what she represents to him. At the same time, a remnant from the death of Rita comes back into Dexter’s life — namely, Astor — who’s never quite gotten over the death of her mom and still blames Dexter for it. In the course of this episode, Lumen inadvertently helps Dexter come to some kind of understanding with Astor.”

Tease No. 2: “Dexter is undertaking his vetting process with Jordan and that involves Dexter becoming a client. And as Jordan picks Dexter’s brain, Dexter starts to pick at clues that Jordan may or may not have left behind. In this episode, he gets a clue that will lead us into the next couple of episodes. But at the same time, Jordan discovers something that could be devastating.” READ FULL STORY »

'Dancing With the Stars' scare: Authorities rush to scene after discovery of unknown powder

The Los Angeles Police Department and ABC confirm with EW that police and FBI authorities rushed to CBS Television City Friday after an envelope containing an unknown substance was delivered to the Dancing With the Stars production office. The scare, however, was short-lived: Police cleared the scene after discovering the substance in question was not a hazardous material, but talcum powder. A statement from ABC reads, “Security and the Los Angeles Fire Department and Los Angeles Police Department were immediately notified. Measures were taken to secure the area and ensure the safety of personnel.” The network and LAPD are not revealing any other details at this time.

'Running Wilde': Fox not running back nine episodes

Ed Araquel/FOX

Bad news for fans hoping to save Running Wilde: Fox confirmed with EW that they are not ordering a back nine of the Keri Russell-Will Arnett series. Though the freshman comedy has not been officially canceled, the network’s decision to not order additional episodes is concerning — this could mean Wilde might be running off the air sometime soon. The show had been suffering in the ratings: Two weeks ago, the series attracted just 2.9 million viewers. (That number, however, came with some silver lining: It was an 18 percent increase from the week prior.) Fox also decided to bench the series for November sweeps.

'Caprica': Final five episodes to air back-to-back on Jan. 4

SyFy has confirmed to EW that the final five episodes of the Battlestar Galactica-spinoff series Caprica will air back-to-back on Tuesday, Jan. 4 starting at 6 p.m. ET. Last month, SyFy cancelled the show after the second half of its first season struggled in the ratings; exec producer David Eick told EW that it was a “surprise” that SyFy yanked the rest of the episodes off the air. ”I understand that these are rarely simple decisions and I know the current leadership at Syfy genuinely loved the show and were hell-bent on protecting it and seeing it succeed,” Eick said. “Caprica was an extremely smart, unique show and it’ll take quite some time for me to get used to the idea that it’s really gone.” A “Save Caprica” campaign attempted to resurrect the show by sending the network over 650 pounds of apples to the network; alas, that was not quite enough. But don’t despair too much; SyFy has already greenlit a two-hour pilot BSG spinoff tentatively titled Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome, this time set roughly ten years into the first Cylon war.

'Dancing With the Stars' producer defends Bristol Palin: 'I'm very confident that the votes that are getting through are valid'

Conrad Green, executive producer of ABC’s Dancing With the Stars, is “mystified” by this week’s Bristol Palin vs. Brandy brouhaha. Green called EW to address rumors of a so-called Tea Party conspiracy designed to help Bristol Palin advance into Monday’s season 11 finals.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: This week, there’s been a lot of outrage that it’s too easy to exploit the voting system at ABC.com. Do you have any plan in place to correct that?
CONRAD GREEN: It’s already corrected, to be honest with you. It might appear that you can make up a thousand email addresses and send them in, but we have a number of security checks in place that go over all of the internet votes before they’re calculated. In this particular case, we can spot an IP address, and if one computer sends in a crazy amount of email votes, we just discard them. These things can happen for any of our contestants. It’s not like only Bristol’s fans could do that. It could just as easily be happening for Jennifer’s or for someone else’s. But either way, those excessive votes are not being counted. Christian Slater will be 'Breaking In' to his first comedy series on Fox

Fox has ordered seven episodes of the half-hour comedy Breaking In, starring Christian Slater and Reaper‘s Bret Harrison, the network confirms. It will premiere Wednesday, April 6. The show, created by Adam F. Goldberg (Fanboys) and Seth Gordon (Four Christmases), is set at a high-tech security firm that takes extreme — and often questionable — measures to sell their protection services. As the logline explains, Contra Security, corporate America’s answer to The A-Team, gives clients a sense of security by first ripping it away. Hence the title, Breaking In. Slater stars as Oz, the mastermind described as a man of mystery and a master of manipulation. Oz’s hand-picked team includes: Bad girl Melanie (You Again‘s Odette Yustman), who is in charge of lock-picking, safe-cracking and heart-breaking; disguise expert Josh (The Whitest Kids U’Know’s Trevor Moore), who heads recon and intel; Cash (Chocolate NewsAlphonso McAuley), a fanboy who specializes in strategy, logistics, and office pranks; and new recruit Cameron (Harrison), a lovable computer hacker straight out of college who’s still trying to meld with his colleagues. Though the pilot, written by Goldberg and directed by Gordon, tested well, Fox passed on a pick up last May. Fortunately, when the network resumed talks with Sony Pictures Television, the original creative team and cast remained intact.  READ FULL STORY »

'Ace of Cakes' to hang up its apron

Categories: Reality TV, Television

Food Network

Sour news for a sweet show: Food Network has confirmed with EW that after four-and-a-half years, Ace of Cakes will end its series run in February 2011. The decision to cancel the series was a mutual one between star Duff Goldman and the Food Network; Duff remains in active discussions about continuing his presence on the network, a spokesperson for the Food Network told EW. But never fear; if you head to Baltimore, Md., you can still have your cake and eat it too: Charm City Cakes — the bakery featured on the program — still remains in operation. “We were here before the cameras, and we’ll be here when they’re gone,” a rep for the bakery told EW via email. “People will always want cakes, and we make awesome cakes. Nuff said.”

Joe Scarborough suspended by MSNBC

Categories: TV Biz

MSNBC has suspended Joe Scarborough for making contributions to political candidates. In a statement, MSNBC president Phil Griffin said that “This morning Joe Scarborough informed me that he made eight contributions of $500 each to local candidates in Florida between 2004-08. In my conversation with Joe two weeks ago, he did not recall these contributions. … He will be immediately suspended for two days without pay and return to the air on Wednesday…”

Scarborough, who hosts the popular morning talk-show Morning Joe, is a former Republican U.S. congressman from Florida. His suspension comes just two weeks after MSNBC similarly suspended liberal commentator Keith Olbermann for making contributions to three Democratic politicians.

Viewers love their 'Big Bang Theory' fix! Plus, 'The Apprentice' goes down ... way down

Categories: TV Ratings

Viewers love to get their Big Bang Theory fix! The Bill Prady/Chuck Lorre comedy earned a 4.3 rating/11 share last night and averaged a timeslot-winning 13 million viewers — just one reason that CBS won yet another Thursday in the key demo (3.3/9) and viewers (13.5 million), according to preliminary ratings. $#*! My Dad Says earned a 3.1/9 and 10 million viewers, followed by CSI (3.1/8, 14.3 million) and The Mentalist (3.0/9, 14.3 million).

One buzz-killer at another network forwarded this little stat about the 8:30 p.m. timeslot that’s still worth repeating: Through nine telecasts, $#*! My Dad Says is down 18 percent from Survivor’s performance in the time period last fall. But it doesn’t really make a difference, does it? William Shatner is still bringing the viewers and Survivor is doing just fine on Wednesdays. So there you go.

ABC was second for the night in the demo (3.1/9) and viewers (8.9 million). After airing A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving at 8 (2.2/6, 7.3 million), ABC picked things up with Grey’s Anatomy (4.3/11 and 11.3 million) and Private Practice (2.9/9 and 8 million).

Fox was third for the night in the demo (2.3/6) and viewers (7.1 million), with Bones posting a 2.7/8 and 9.3 million, followed by Fringe (1.9/5, 4.8 million). READ FULL STORY »
