Image Credit: Adam Larkey/ABC; Karen Neal/ABCABC has set the premiere dates for its new midseason comedies Mr. Sunshine and Happy Endings. The former series will bow Feb. 9 and stars Matthew Perry as a self-absorbed manager of a San Diego sports arena. It also stars Allison Janney (The West Wing) and Andrea Anders (Better Off Ted). Happy Endings joins the schedule on April 13 and stars Elisha Cuthbert (24) as a gal who breaks up with her fiancee (Zach Knighton of FlashForward) on their wedding day.
Mr. Sunshine temporarily replaces Cougar Town, which will return to its regular time slot on April 13. Happy Endings – and reruns of Modern Family — will follow the run of Off the Map, the latest medical drama from Shonda Rhimes.
The Wednesday schedule for Feb. 9 through April 6 is as follows:

8:30 p.m. Better With You
9 p.m. Modern Family
9:30 p.m. Mr. Sunshine
10 p.m. Off the Map
The Wednesday schedule beginning April 13:

is better together supposed to be better with you?
Not sure, all I can see is that ABC should try to bring back TGIF making shows like Boy Meets World, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Family Matters, etc again – something the whole family can watch, everyone seems so desperate to the latest hip new show
Seddie, if you’d like something the whole family can watch, try “The Middle” at 8. It’s funny!
Modern Family is a show the whole family can watch as well.
Plus ABC doesn’t need TGIF cause the have ABCFamily, an entire channel the whole family can watch. I do agree though The Middle and Modern Family are family shows so I think they are doing alright.
Have you seen ABCFamily?! I don’t even let my kid watch the commercials for their shows. Pretty Little Liars? Secret Life of the American Teenager? Greek (logo is a keg cup)? If we’re watching something on that channel that is family friendly, I have to mute it for their commercials.
I watched the whole first season of “The Middle” waiting for it to be funny. I broke up with it in May after laughing a handful of times.
Howard, how do you not laugh at Brick?! He’s the best part of the show!
It means Cougar Town’s Season 2 will have fewer episodes?
Chandler’s replacing Monica?
LOL.
Deadly, Lana. Very deadly.
Lana, thank you, pithy and witty exactly what a comment should BE!
Cool points for you! Good eye Lana!
Very clever!
lana that is funny! but thats ok cause i love cougar town and i wanna watch mr sunshine (friends fan here) so watching either will make me happy!
the trailer i saw of mr sunshine wasn’t that great and some of the people i follow on twitter who’ve seen the show have said it was pretty lame. i’m willing to stick with it/give it a few episodes and i agree with ABC’s strategy of using modern family while it’s hot to launch new shows, but I wish they were replacing cougar town with someone nearly as awesome, y’know? but hey, at least they’re not NBC and wasting the office’s lead in power on propping up 30 rock for 4 seasons.
Yeah, NBC is so terrible for giving one of the best comedies on TV a chance to gain more viewers. What a waste, eh? All those Emmys and various other awards. A complete waste to support a show that is so acclaimed.
NBC has some of the best comedies on TV and usually gives their low-rated but brilliant comedies time to gain an audience. Great comedies like 30 Rock, Community, and Parks and Recreation never would have made it past one season on a different network. ABC treated one of the best comedies on TV, Better Off Ted, like absolute garbage. Guaranteed it would have lasted longer if it was on NBC. NBC never would have crapped all over a great comedy like Better Off Ted the way that ABC did.
while i will miss cougar town i do think that using modern family’s popularity to launch new shows is a good idea. that said, i have to agree with dave. nbc does give a lot of its shows, especially comedies, a chance to grow. nbc has certainly screwed up at times, but i have to give them credit where it is due.
Dots…no worries, they moved “30 Rock” so that you can watch “S&%! My Dad Says” instead.
Why didn’t they use that strategy to save Better Off Ted? Me=Still bitter
No Cougar Town until April? Lame!
Agreed. I understand using Modern Fam as a springboard, but at the expense of another great show? Sucks hard.
Exactly! Wouldn’t it make more sense to replace Better With You? Who would miss that?
Sooo excited for Off the Map!! Except, where will it go after April 6th?
I’ll definitely check our Mr. Sunshine, not sure about Happy Endings yet…
I would watch Matt Saracen in anything <3
Looks like maybe the Perry show will make it past mid-season but the Cuthbert show looks like a half-season and CXLed in May 2011
borh shows are getting the “you suck you’re lame” bump. elisha cuthbert? i thought she went away. far.
Here’s an idea. Add “Mr Sunshine”; Keep “Cougar Town”; and cancel “Better with You”!!
Here, here! I was a little pissed when I found out Better with You is still on the schedule instead of CT. At least Cougar Town won’t have to go against Idol since it will only be a 90 minute show by April. Still this is a total blow for fans of the show. Hopefully the ratings will still be strong after the two-month hiatus.
I agree.
I had a complete Anne of Green Gables moment and saw the name “Matthew Cuthbert” when I read the headline
Just me? Anyone…anyone?
Uh-oh…Andrea Anders is in Mr. Sunshine? I like her, but she’s the new Ted McGinley – every show she’s on dies a slow, painful death.
You’re right. The Class, Joey, Better Off Ted. Although Joey would have died a slow, painful death no matter who was in the cast. That show was just sad.
To be fair, The Class died fairly quickly- only that one season. I think it’s crazy how many of those actors are in new shows this season- Jon Bernthal (sp?) in Walking Dead, Andrea Anders in Mr Sunshine, and Jason Ritter in The Event. And Jesse Tyler Ferguson, though his show isn’t new this year.
Yeah, except Joey was terrible. It deserved to be cancelled after season 1. Better Off Ted, OTOH, was one of the best things on television in the last two years.
So PISSED that they are putting CT on hiatus. I sure won’t be watching Matthew Perry’s new show! Eff you, ABC!
‘Better with you’ is lame fake laughing 90′s sit-com that makes women feel bad if not married.
ABC has set the premiere dates…have they set the cancellation dates yet?
LOL….
No, because usually ABC moves shows to Saturday night before they cancel them (remember Pushing Daisies and Dirty Sexy Money?).
