'Dexter' renewed for sixth season

dexterImage Credit: ShowtimeShowtime has renewed Dexter, its top-rated drama series, for a sixth season. The network made the announcement in advance of Dec. 12′s season 5 finale. The show scored its second-best audience ever on Nov. 28, with 2.54 million viewers. That’s just shy of the 2.57 million who tuned in for the shocking season 4 finale, and up 43 percent from its season 5 premiere (1.77 million).

    Best show on TV :)

  • JACK HART

great news .. can’t wait 2 see next week’s finale.

  • Josh

While I think this season has been one of the worst, I am glad to see it renewed for another season, lets see some great – not so many terrible sub plots that go no where – writing.

    • Jobless

You’re crazy, this season has been amazing.

      • MET

I agree with you, Jobless. This season has been fantastic.

    • Jay

You’re crazy… Dexter is GREAT this year!! TV at its best

    • MCS

Dont worry Josh, I dont think you’re crazy. It definitely isn’t its worst season, but it is bad enough for me to not watch it every week, just save them up.

      • Zakry

        Its doing okay without you.

    • Marc

Excellent season… original storyline, nothing obvious, and the sister is finally learning how to be a real cop without Dexter’s help.

    • Bjork

Josh, not only is it one of the worst, IT IS THE WORST season yet. Glad they will have a chance to redeem themselves in #6. Please kill off this Lumen character and get back to DEXTER. Can’t stand soft Dexter and this stupid tag-team killing storyline.

      • joe

are you crazy? i think this is the best season yet, imagine the possiblities of keeping lumin and dexter together. she’d be a great step-mother and alibi while daddy went out and took care of bads guys. of course he’d have to do an occassional favor for his sweetheart once in awhile if she stumbled accross a real scumbag. i say keep lumin on and keep the series going. as far as dexter going soft. hes always been soft through the code otherwise he’d just kill indiscriminatly. just my opinion.

    • Zakry

That sounds like the complaint of someone who didn’t really watch the show, considering there weren’t any subplots that didn’t go anywhere. Nice try, hack.

    • Ryan

      I agree with Josh. Bleh…

    • jessica

while dexter is always good, i agree, i don’t think this was one of the better dexter seasons. to be fair, a lot has to do with the season finale, it was big like always, but it had the chance to be explosive and they copped out

  • Kevin

I don’t have Showtime but Dexter still rocks and I only have the first four seasons of the show on DVD and I can’t wait until the Season Five DVD comes out which I predict around August 2011. I don’t know how long Dexter going to last.

  • Belle

Too bad they can not bring back John Lithgow’s Lord Farquaad ..OOPS..I mean Trinity Killer to play more mind games with Dexter.

    • JayNYC

Why not? I missed last season’s finale — what happened?

      • big help

        he was killed “your welcome”

      • @Big Help

hey, stupid – that’s “YOU’RE welcome” – learn to spell

      • Zakry

        Google it.

  • Linc

I think this season while started slow (I think it needed to) is right up there. Season 3 was my least favorite but still I liked it. This season has taken the show in a new direction, it will be interesting to see how it ends.

Hope Dexter doesn’t get killed or caught next week, but I am curious about the timing of this announcement. Why before the last episode? Maybe it is a fake out!

    • coren

I know this aired a while ago – but how could they have a sixth season if dexter is dead? Don’t you think that’d be rather difficult?

      • Draven

        Umm dexter isn’t dead

  • Jules

I could see Dexter realistically running for 2-3 more seasons..(I wish it could go more) I love that this season has focused on Dexter’s emotional evolution. I hope whenever the final season comes, they don’t rush the drama that will inevitably ensue around Dexter being caught and it’s aftermath. Ending with a long monologue during the allocution for his crimes would be awesome.

  • ScarletRanes

Dexter is the most phenomenal show of all time! This season has truly been a roller coaster of evolution for the characters involved. I love the storyline with Lumen and Dexter. Debra is excellent with her emotional outbursts and sailors tongue (a woman after my own heart) and I think she is going to catch her brother in a compromising position next Sunday…Storytelling at its best. Dexter forever!!! Love it

  • Salvatore

The 5th season was good,I hope the 6th season to be very good.In the 6th season Dexter must die,and his son to witness(injection, electric chair)and his child to take his place…this would be an end to Be Remembered. My opinion
