Justin Bieber cancels TV appearance after guest suffers serious injury

Tags: News, Television

Justin Bieber canceled a TV appearance on Saturday after another guest was critically injured in front of a live audience, People reports. Bieber was scheduled to appear on Wetten, dass…? (“Wanna Bet?”), a 29-year-old German variety show, when Samuel Koch, 23, suffered serious back and spinal injuries after attempting to jump over an approaching car using spring-powered stilts.

Bieber described the show’s decision to cancel all subsequent filming on Twitter: “Just want to let my people in Germany know I won’t be on Wetten Dass tonight as an accident has taken place and we all don’t think it is right to continue. Please pray for Samuel Koch & his family as we wait and hope for his health and safety [sic].” Koch underwent surgery on Sunday, and has since been put into an artificial coma. According to the German newspaper Bild, a doctor described Koch as being in an “extremely critical stage.” Bieber apologized to expectant fans for the cancellation: “Germany I’m sorry we couldn’t perform tonight but some things are more important than putting on a show. We will be back I promise. Thank u [sic].”

    Additional facts:
1* The victim’s father was the one driving the car.
2* The TV channel has already announced that “Wetten Dass” will continue airing as per usual.
I think those facts are way more inportant in terms of “entertainment” news than Justin Bieber cancelling his performance.

Can’t he cancel his career after all of the suffering I’ve had to endure seeing and hearing him?

  • linda

    i hate u i do love u see u later

  • John

Not Justin Bieber cancelled his appearance, but the whole show didn’t go on. In your headline it sounds as if it was Bieber’s decision, which it wasn’t.

Hey i am a mom of a 10 yr. old and i dont know whos the bigger bieber fan, me or her. I think hes great and people should be a little nicer.

I do hope Herr Koch will be all right, and I do not mean to trivialize his misfortune (Bieber is totally right, some things are more important than a show)…but I kind of love how EW used [sic] after Bieber’s tweeny use of “u”. I know that’s completely the wrong thing to focus on with this article, but it caught my eye and made me giggle a bit.

That is sad hope he feels better, and that is good for Justin to cancel the concert that was very thoughtful of him.

I may not be a fan of his (his songs are a bit lame) BUT I am tiered of all the hatred directed towards him. What are you all jealous? Leave the poor kid alone already.

    • Jordyn

Fred: u made a good point, all the hatred directed towered him don’t be jealous

Justin Bieber didn’t cancel anything the live show went after the accident off the air. There were other show acts planed which also didn’t happen.
Samuel K. is still unconscious in the hospital. Nobody wants to watch that kind of show if on of the candidates has to go to the hospital…

The whole show was cancelled after the accident happened. It wasn’t Justin’s decision.
For us in Germany it is quite a big thing; Wetten dass is the most watched show in Europe for about 25 years now, and there have been even more dramatic bets in the last years (I remember a motorcyclist driving down a ski jumping hill) and nothing ever happened. I guess that is just the price you have to pay for being on TV nowadays!

yeah one day there was also a guy singing an opera while cars were driving on him!

i live in germany and I’m really sorry for Samuel…but he trained very hard and he shouldn’t have done that if he couldn’t train enough or if he isn’t that good in it…the show was supposed to be GREAT, many great stars, better than ever!
Now it’s Thomas Gottschalk and ZDF’s fault and they want to change the show…and this only because there was ONE guy who failed. ( don’t get me wrong, I’m kind of suffering with Samuel, I’m sorry for him!)

How funny is that…the ymention the “Bild”…the Bild is most of the time just saying sh***
