'Modern Family' tops 'Glee' in viewers 18-49 after DVR ratings added in week 9

Modern Family has something to be very gleeful about in week 9 of the television season. After DVR ratings were factored in, the ABC comedy surpassed Glee‘s ratings among viewers 18-49 during the week ending Nov. 21, making it the No. 1 scripted show in that demographic with 6.3 million. Glee, meanwhile, stood strong with 6.2 million viewers in the demo, and Grey’s Anatomy rounded out the top three with 5.8 million.

Here’s a look at the top ten in overall DVR viewers:

1) Hawaii Five-0 (CBS): 3.21 million gained from DVRs*
2) Modern Family (ABC): 3.14 million
3) Grey’s Anatomy (ABC): 2.94 million
4) The Mentalist (CBS): 2.83 million
5) Glee (FOX): 2.68 million
6) NCIS (CBS): 2.54 million
7) Castle (ABC): 2.51 million
8 ) Criminal Minds (CBS): 2.44 million
9) The Good Wife (CBS): 2.37 million
10) House (FOX): 2.35 million

* DVR playback is measured by the number of viewers who watch their recordings within seven days of the show’s airing

How do they KNOW when you watch your DVR?

  • Sam

I find it ironic that this post directly follows the Terriers news. None of these shows (with the possible exception of The Good Wife) were as good, and yet… *sigh*

Having a lot of viewers isn’t a mark of quality. You’ll note that this listing only indicates programs on major broadcast networks.

Interesting that Castle and 5-O are both in the top 7 as they air opposite each other on Mon night.

I do wish all DVRs would report back. There are plenty of shows that I think would benefit from a more complete sample than Neilsen gives.

Is everyone at EW crying and pouting?

    • Lee

Hahaha..I’m sure. Will this mean that we’ll only get *GASP* one Glee article per day?

  • Joe

    Good. Glee sucks anyway.

    • Nathan

I’m a fan of the show, but I’d agree that has really gotten away from what made it so cool in the beginning. Nothing more than a collection of songs covered note for note these days.

  • John

I’m surprised the demo is that high in the 18-49 range, considering Glee is more for kids.

So, does this mean Rolo Tomasi is going to say Modern Family sucks in every post?

I enjoy watching glee and so does my mom. My friend and her mom will also watch it. I think the show is fantastic.

It still bugs me Fringe gets no love even after the DVR numbers come out :(

C’mon people… WATCH FRINGE!! its freakin awesome!

  • Stefanie

Wow. Glee is second. That must mean the show is over. Seriously, why is this a big deal? There’s not much difference in the ratings. And considering Glee is big with teens, it’s actually pretty impressive that it’s even that high with people over 18.

    • Karl

Actually it’s high with people over 34. It’s the 18-34 range that is included.

      MODERN FAMILY ftw!

  • cc

I love Glee. I love Modern Family. I love the Office. Do I see a pattern here?
