Eliza Dushku out of TNT's 'Bird Dog'

eliza-dushkuImage Credit: Albert L. Ortega/PR PhotosEliza Dushku announced via Twitter and Facebook Monday that she won’t be starring in the TNT pilot Bird Dog after all. “Hey guys! News to report,” she told her 675,000-plus followers and 34,800-plus fans, respectively. “We have mutually & AMICABLY decided to part ways on Bird Dog due to creative differences. No worries/fears/tears.” EW confirmed Nov. 29 that Dushku had landed the lead role in the drama, which is described as centering on a father-daughter cop team.

Good! Now she can join up for a sci-fi series on Syfy or something that’s more up her alley.

  • Liv

I miss Dollhouse. I may be the only one. It had great potential and the last episode was so good I wanted to die from the joy of great television.

    • Julius

Love Dollhouse! Still need to catch up on the 2nd season, but so far has been a great show.

    • Mary

You’re not the only one. I miss it too. It wasn’t the most groundbreaking show ever, but it was certainly enjoyable sci-fi fun. And it had a decent story!

    • strickens_girl

It’s not just you. I miss Dollhouse too.

  • Rack

Wow that was quick! I want to know what sort of “creative differences”–I’m thinking maybe the part wasn’t kick-ass enough? Hopefully, she’ll get something better that’s more suited to her.

  • Chris

I wouldn’t mind seeing her on Fringe as a cast member or a recurring character.

    • mario

      like!

    • @Chris

I think that would be a fantastic addition to a wonderful show!

  • SKK

Maybe they wanted her to act.

    • Sven

Yes, I think the network realized her limits, and started backtracking on the offer.

      • Prunella Von Scheidlhaagen

Or perhaps she realized the last thing TV needs is another cop show.

      • Sven

        I meant backpedaling of course.

      • Tarc

Yeah, that must be it, especially in light she’s already been given the starring role in two network series. *rolls eyes*

Joss should ask Jane Espenson to create a Faith tv series for SyFy just to thumb his nose at the new Buffy movie that’s being made without their involvement.

    • darclyte

They could take advantage of the tax breaks which movies like Scream 4 and Harold & Kumar 3, and the tv series Detroit 1-8-7 have taken advantage of and film it in the Detroit area. The series noted that Cleveland also had a Hellmouth, and Detroit could sub for Cleveland, or they could alter “canon” as they’ve done before, and just make Detroit have a Hellmouth. That would actually make sense as to why things got so bad in Detroit. If Michelle leaves Gossip Girl, they could bring her on as Dawn whose job is to keep Faith in check.

      • mmkr

I am pretty sure that Cleveland has tax breaks too for people who want to film in the area. I actually think that they’d be pretty happy to have a production like that in the town. I know that the city has wanted to build themselves into another Toronto (the city that subs for so many other cities).

Maybe she can get onto the list of hopefuls to play Wonder Woman in the new series and/or movie. Now that could be interesting.

    • darclyte

At 29 she’s too old. They’re looking for someone younger than 25. She’s also too short as she’s not even 5’5″. At one point, Joss was attached to Wonder Woman, so there may have been a very slight chance. Now that he’s doing the Avengers, maybe he could cast her as Betty Ross (since they recast Banner/Hulk since the last movie already.) I think it’d be fun for him to plop in his “buds” from his various projects. Nathan Fillion could play Hawkeye. SMG and others from Buffy and Angel could pop up as SHIELD agents or just hanging out in the background. Like, “Oh look, there’s Alyson Hannigan drinking tea at the next table.”

    PAGING SARAH MICHELLE GELLAR!
Seriously, someone needs to get Gellar a TV show

    • Dave

Umm, Sarah Michelle Gellar deserves so much better than this “dog” of a show. A father and daughter cop team? No. SMG is better than this.

  • Lisa

I’m sure Eliza will find a better opportunity. I look forward to seeing her back on TV.

  • Lisa

    Yeah, where is Gellar?

  • Keith

I think that ABC should snatch her up for their reboot of Charlie’s Angels. We already know she can do kick-ass and look good while doing it.

    • Brooke

      SECONDED!

  • Chris

With the (SPOILER) Olivias back where they belong, and Alt Broyles dead, Walternate may start to have doubts about the Fringe team’s loyalty. So he recruits an agent that reports to him in secret, and she forms a personal connection to the group (say, as Charlie’s girlfriend) to make sure they tow the line. Who could that girl be? Eliza Dushku, come on down!

  • Chris

Smart move by Eliza! This show sounds so bad I wouldn’t want her associated with it. There is no creativity behind cop shows anymore.
