'Entourage' movie update: 'We want it to happen,' says Mark Wahlberg

Entourage-movie-WahlbergImage Credit: Michael Muller/HBO; Inset: Chris Jackson/Getty ImagesMore encouraging news for Entourage fans who don’t want to say goodbye to Eric, Vincent, Johnny and Turtle when the HBO show wraps next year: Mark Wahlberg, who exec produces the comedy, acknowledged to EW that he hasn’t stopped thinking about a possible Entourage movie and “we want it to happen.”

“We have one last season left on TV and then it would probably take place after the finale,” Wahlberg said while walking the red carpet for Monday’s premiere of The Fighter. “There are places to go. I’m still here all these years later, aren’t I? My story didn’t end in my 20s.”

Wahlberg added one caveat, however: “We won’t make it if we don’t have a good script.”

Last summer, HBO announced that Entourage will wrap during the summer of 2011 after eight seasons. At the time, HBO chief Michael Lombardo said that Encourage creator Doug Ellin wanted to write a film.

Meanwhile, Wahlberg’s relationship with HBO continues to extend far beyond Entourage. He’s also an executive producer on In Treatment, How to Make it in America and Boardwalk Empire, as well as several pilots in development (one of which focuses on the CIA and another about the porn) that the actor is developing under his Closest to the Hole production banner. “I do it all fulltime,” Wahlberg says about this TV production work. “I don’t do anything half-ass so I don’t think in terms of quitting acting to just produce or vice versa. I don’t have to, so why? I like doing it all. Usually, I want to be doing the complete opposite of whatever I am doing at the time. Certainly when I was working out in a ring for five hours for [The Fighter], I dreamed about sitting in my cushy office reading a script for Entourage. And no matter what I’m doing, I’m wishing I was playing golf.”

As for developing shows exclusively for HBO, Wahlberg said he’s got a good thing going. “Why fix something that isn’t broken? I like that we have more flexibility in the kind of shows we can make with them and the subject matter we can cover. There’s more freedom on cable.”

“We won’t make it if we don’t have a good script.”

That hasn’t stopped them the last four seasons of the TV show.

    • Nathan

FTW! Exactly what I and everyone else is thinking, can’t believe this show’s actually still on.

      • Emgee

This past season was probably the second best season of the show. Yeah, Season 6 slumped a little bit, but they really stepped it up Season 7.

      • Mike

Agreed with Emgee, this past season was actually good. I kept expecting it to be bad but kept enjoying it lol Season 2 was by far the best, which I’m sure is what you were referring to!

    • Chris

      Too funny…and true.

    • Jen

Disagree! Granted, there was a slump, but season 7 was good, what with Vince spiraling downward and the boys breaking apart.

      • Nathan

        Too little too late.

      • MCS

        Season 7 was absolutely awful

      • David

yeah, vince should have spiraled into drugs like 3 seasons ago when his career was at its highest, would have been much better… the show just isn’t the same as it was the first 3 seasons…

    • GetMoney

5 was crap,6 tried to right all the wrongs of 5 and 7 was good.I hope a movie(s) will happen.

    • Dave

Completely agree, M. I gave up on the show last year. It went from being so great its first few seasons to being terrible.

    • Larry David

Mark Wahlberg is RACIST against orcs!!!

  • jon

No Mark make the Happening 2 please.

‘find hollywood jobs on careerDaddy com’

  • Michael

I didn’t know Mark produced In Treatment; I love that show!

    • Nathan

      Better producer than actor clearly.

      • really?

Seriously? He’s not RDJ but Shooter, The Departed, Four Brothers – he’s not that bad.

      • Jenna

        He’s a fantastic actor.

  • sam

I love Entourage. I’m praying the movie actually happens. Johnny Drama will be yelling VICTORYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!

  • Griefo

Season 7 was the best so far. I had almost given up on them after the lackluster seasons 5 and 6. Now, I’m sad it’s ending.

    • Emgee

Season 2 was my favorite, but Season 7 is a close second.

  • stu

don’t bother donnie boy. it will never reach the Sex In The City histeria=$$$$.

    • BionicLA

You have to be kidding me HBO has done alot of good programs and Entourage is one of many of them on the other hand Sex in the City was on way past it’s time and a movie excuse me two of them?? Mark make it happen.

  • Todd

As if there is any interest in an Entourage movie… talk about a money loser. I used to love this show, but really…put it to bed. Can’t stand any of the cast except Drama at this point. Hate Turtle! Hate E! Vinnie…always lame, never really believable as a “star.”

    • Eh

Ari Gold has always been the best character on the show.

  • Matt

Meanwhile Terriers is gone, never to be seen again.

    • MCS

Not really HBO’s fault though that one, is it Matt?

  • TheDude

They shortened the ALREADY SHORT final season so they could do this movie thing, so It damn well better happen or there will be a lot of upset fans.

    • Connor

That decision has nothing to do with the movie. More likely that HBO has just lost faith in it’s one-time golden goose.

  • Chloe

If he “doesn’t do anything half-ass”, I’m glad we don’t have to see his half-ass acting. I don’t know how it could get any worse.

  • kana

    God no.
All i’m asking from Santa is for Entourage to go away and never ever come back.

    • Connor

He doesnt fill those wishes. I have been asking for Pirates of the Caribbean to go away every year since 2006…

  • Jim

There may be more freedom on cable, but that doesn’t equate to having great art…ENTOURAGE would bomb much bigger than SEX IN THE CITY 2 did! And while Wahlberg’s story didn’t end in his 20’s, it’s still kind of sad that the only time people show an interest in him is when he’s wearing nothing but underwear. Take a hint, Marky Mark…no one loves you for your acting and production skills. Oh the ego, oh the ego…

    • MCS

      What? No!

    • Jenna

      You’re showing your age buddy.

    • Mike

is that a joke?!… The departed, four brothers, three kings, the Italian job, the fighter… the list goes on, Whalberg is a MEGASTAR

  • Coffee Bomb

When will Hollywood and the sometimes excitable folks at EW.com realize – almost every TV show that turns into a movie is weak at best, and awful at worst?

  • Vince

I’ll be the first to admit, Mark is no great actor. But you have to give the dude credit for the transformation from cheezy rapper Marky Mark to a Hollywood A-lister. I still love Entourage, btw.

  • thetruth1028

Oh I got a copy of the script…Vince joins a boy band!..Then 20 years later they reunite and go on tour along with NSync and start a boyband war with NKOTBSB :S
