'Lie to Me': Fox declines back nine order

Lie-to-MeImage Credit: Sam Jones/FoxA little less than a month after benching their freshman comedy series Running Wilde, Fox has declined to order the back nine episodes for the Tim Roth drama Lie To Me, currently in its third season. But fans should hold their tears for now.

Since mid-November, we’ve known that Lie to Me would surrender its timeslot to newbie cop drama The Chicago Code, which is produced by Shawn Ryan, the man behind The Shield and the recently shuttered Terriers. The shift was not completely surprising, considering the series has over the course of its run performed solidly in a number of timeslots. (Its series premiere even held its own when it went head-to-head with the fifth season premiere of Lost.) The show’s versatility could prove its saving grace come renewal time.

Most recently, the show went into its scheduled hiatus on a high note. The Nov. 29 episode posted the show’s highest numbers of the season in both total viewers (6.4 million) and in the 18-49 demographic.

I just watched the ENTIRE Lie to me program from Season 1 until current. LOVE THE SHOW!! it’s great. DO NOT END THIS SHOW>

Tim Roth as Cal Lightman, is the reason I watch TV anymore. He is brilliant. I can’t stand reality TV, and so many other shows are clones of each other. Love the show and the chemistry between he and Foster, and his love for Emily. Also, sorry, but I’m glad Reynalds is gone. He was annoying. Anyway… carry on.

  • first

First, and fox is stupid this is a great show. Alot better then some of the crap on that network.

  • timfan

This is a great show, please don’t cancel it! Season 2 just showed up on Netflix streaming and I can’t wait to watch it again. Along with The Good Wife this is the best show on tv. Love Tim Roth and Kelli Williams.

This show is such a waste of space. The network could be doing something a lot more innovative with the time slot. “Lie to Me” doesn’t really generate any press or awards and the viewers it does get is only because of its stronger lead-ins.

Netflix recommended this show to me. They said that I would rate it 5 stars and they were right. I just got finished watching the first 2 seasons while also watching this current season. I do agree that the writing got a little slipshod this season, but it looks like they are trying to get back on track.

Put Fringe in this spot! House would be a great lead in! DO it FOX. COme on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Bob Frapples

That would be awesome. It’ll never happen, but it would be awesome.

    • jules

I was just going to suggest the same thing!

  • Ryan

This show is excellent! Plus, not only is Roth outstanding but Chicago Code could fail. Quite frankly FOX only has 3 ‘hit’ hour long shows: Bones, House, and Glee. They should renew LTM, Fringe, and Human Target just so they don’t have a bunch of veterans and a bunch of rookies.

  • Jaded

This is one of my favorite shows!!! Tim Roth is just fabulous and the rest of the cast is great as well. Please don’t cancel Lie To Me!!!!

  • Charmiane

Renew LIE TO ME for the back 9 and a seson 4 FOX!!!
It’s a FANTASTIC show with great sotry line’s/character chemistry/interesting science!!!
    RENEW!!! RENEW!!! RENEW!!!

    The people want this FOX!!!

This is not a surprise. The first couple seasons were decent, but this year has had some really horrible moments.

The show hit a low point on a recent episode where a guy had plastic surgery, so Cal couldn’t read him. Suddenly, one of his cronies announces he has learned the man — a famous public speaker — is really someone else, who deserted his family. How did he learn this? Through osmosis? It came to him out of thin air? The show just has lots of plot holes like that. I’m not surprised at all by this news. I really want to LOVE this show, but I don’t. I watch it, but I’m somehow indifferent.

PLEASE DO NOT CANCEL “LIE TO ME”!

  • Vince from NYC

When is this show on? I discovered season one on Netflix this summer and am 3/4 through season two. Hopefully I can DVR and catch up before the back 9. I hope they re-run the first nine during the hiatus.

    • b

      After House on Monday nights.

    • Rosa

      theres always hulu.

  • Cath

Loved season one and two. This year, Cal is often playing an ultra exaggerated jerk. He moved from being quirky genius to nasty. I can’t understand networks that tamper with successful formulae!

    • maria

Well said!!! It’s just ridiculous the way he plays Lightman: he makes him seen like an arrogant idiot that is drunk.

    • staceykay

I agree. My husband and I stopped watching it this season. It was too annoying. We had 4 or 5 episodes in the DVR and finally said “we don’t care about this show anymore” and deleted them without watching.

  • fluffnrage

Lie to me is awesome! it is the only reason i watch Fox. Everytime there is a good show, fox cancels it. Fox should get its act together!

  • Rachel

First Terriers not this. Boo Hiss Fox networks.

    • Liv

What the heck is going on over at Fox lately? Looks like they are the new NBC.

  • icarus

I absolutely love this show. Here’s hoping that it comes back again. There’s no reason for me to watch FOX otherwise.

(Seriously, they have a lineup that includes the terrible horrible American Dad, American Idol which just keep limping along, and Hells Kitchen where a bunch of people who I would LOVE to cook for ME get degraded and screamed at; gimme SOMETHING FOX)
