HBO did not pick up True Blood honcho Alan Ball’s pilot All Signs of Death, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The drama is based on Charlie Huston’s novel The Mystic Arts of Erasing All Signs of Death, which follows a slacker suffering from PTSD as he works in crime-scene clean-up.

I wonder if he’ll go over to AMC.
Good. Now he can focus solely on TB.
Tru Blood is lame.
Hmmm…looks like AMC has another hit on their hands. HBO infamously (aka stupidly) passed on the Mad Men pilot even though it was presented to them on a silver platter by its creator Matthew Weiner (who wrote for the Sopranos). Even David Chase recommended the pilot and they still passed! A network’s blunder is another network’s Emmy Award.
Im glad they passed. I dont have HBO so I wouldnt have been able to see MM….
Well, so are a ton of people, but we are making fun of HBO here. I would have got it either way, but I am still happy AMC got it over HBO. They have been making so many mistakes in recent years.
There’s a reason their competitors are nipping at their heels.
Hopefully, AMC will also pick up The Miraculous Year.
I’m a big fan of Charlie Huston’s books. I hope some company picks up All Signs of Death. The book was a bit of a departure for him after he finished his five-book vampire detective series. I’m assuming Ball didn’t want to do another vampire series, so he went for another of Huston’s books.
Wait. Has there actually BEEN talk about AMC picking up “Miraculous Years”?????? Awesome!!
I’m still sad HBO (and everyone) passed on The Wonderful Maladys pilot.

I know history of HBO and Mad Men, but can you consider for a moment that the reason it was rejected is because it’s not good? Past success does not automatically give a free ride to quaility. Ask David Kelly and Steven Bochco….
I’d feel different if HBO was actually making creative and adventerous choices the way Showtime and AMC have been. There’s nothing fundamentally wrong about Boardwalk Empire but it was as safe as a choice they could have made. Almost calculated. They’ve had a lot of opportunities to take risks (Miraculous Year) and they keep passing on high caliber stuff as if they’re still at the top of their game. To me it looks like they’re letting other networks walk away with the prestige.
2 years ago I’d have said “yay” because I hate when showrunners spread themselves too thin. But that was before True Blood a horrendous nosedive. Please leave, Alan Ball!
As far as I understand “Walking Dead” was offered to other networks before AMC (I don’t remember if HBO was one of them, but it may have been).
HBO! HBO Alan Ball directed pilot “All Signs of Death” needs to get picked up!We are a very large group of HBO fans and huge Alan Ball fans and we are so very disappointed that HBO has passed on the All Signs of Death pilot. We think it is perfectly cast, Alan Ball is a genius, we love HBO and the book it is based on is such a unique premise – showcasing the ‘under belly’ of Los Angeles, and all in all, it should be on the air 2011. We really hope you will have a change of heart about picking up this series. It is going to be a hit. Please take the risk. Make it happen!
i agree with fatima about boardwalk empire being safe. all they had to do is say steve buscemi and martin scorcese. but at the same time the MOST safe thing was true blood. I LOVE alan ball i think he is a genius but true blood is for girls and guys trying to get laid by those girls. its sex and the city with vampires and im really gettingsick of vampires. charlie hustons books are great and any one of them could be a series. i just hope i can at least see the all signs of death pilot
