solid picks! love that friday night lights is getting some love. maybe this will pave the way to some sag and golden globe appreciation?

  • mae

i’m surprised that the good wife isn’t on the dramatic show list. also surprised lost isn’t in that categor – doesn’t the writers guild usually like lost – i guess they gave them something on the drama. Also – now that i look at it, how is The Suitcase from mad men not on this list?!

    • jules

I agree about LOST. I was surprised about that as well but I’m glad they’re recognizing ‘The End.’ Whether you liked the way it ended or not, you have to admit that they writing was always fantastic.

    • kimmy

i’m surprised the pilot for The Walking Dead wasn’t on there. that was bloody brilliant.

  • katie

I love that the Writers Guild continues to recognize Friday Night Lights’ wonderful work. Great and deserving nominees.

  • hi

I was glad to see the final episode of Lost getting the nomination. But like Mae, questioning why The Suitcase (MM) is not up there. What in the what? Sure, much of masterpiece was due to actors and director, but obviously that would not have happened without the writing.

    • cmg42

I completely agree. I mean the Honda episode was great but the suitcase and the summer man were way better. Oh well.

    • mae

probably cause what really stood out in that episode was the acting. the honda episode was great cause of all the references -more the writing side.

  • chris

No “Community” in any of the comedy categories? Epic fail. The writing on that show is a million times better than anything on Glee or The Office

    • Liv

No Cougar Town either and it is way WAY better than Glee.

    • Sara J

Seriously. Every time Glee gets nominated and Community doesn’t, I get so rageful. It’s like I’m not watching the same shows that other people are.

  • Shelby

And the most well written comedy on television, Community, isn’t even nominated. These awards are irrelevant to me now.

  • Chels725

Wow, epic fail WGA for no Community. Also I hope they know that Glee doesn’t write their own songs.

    • reason

I would not call myself a Gleek at all, I have tuned in a few times this season-mostly to see Gwyneth Paltrow- and credit must be given where credit is due: Glee has made me lol more than some shows I have been watching since their pilots. The arrangements of the seriously classic songs is amazing and I have never heard/seen one that they have ruined. The Glee castand crew deserves the accolades.

      • jules

Totally disagree. Glee was a lot better during the first half of last season. I laugh much more at Modern Family and How I Met Your Mother than I do at Glee.

    • Woot

I think everyone on the planet realizes they don’t write their own songs…. they do write the scripts though.

  • K

No Lost, no Sons Of Anarchy, no Cougar Town or Community (but a weak season of The Office makes it?). Sigh. Awards season is so frustrating and ridiculous. Also, I like the Walking Dead as a shown, but writing is its weakest component.

    • mae

i think walking dead wouldn’t have been eligible cause it started so late? maybe – just a guess

    • ks

I agree along with no Erueka? what a smartly written fun show. It does seem to be the same shows year after year. I am happy for Justified though :)

  • reason

    No Cougar Town?!?! No Parenthood?!?!

  • john

    no Big BANG ??? Really

    • ger

These are awards for writing, not pandering.

    • MCS

These are awards for writing, not utter stupidity.

  • Buffy Freak

I’m a big fan of The Office but that Wuphf.com episode was terrible.

  • Pazuzu

Also sad to see no love for Community, while the Office seemingly gets nominated just for showing up. But, happy to see Justified and Futurama recognized. The body/brain-swapping episode of Futurama was so complex, the writers had to create a mathematic equation to sort it all out.

  • JC

Every other entertainment site had this story posted YESTERDDAY. Way to be on top things EW.

  • Mandy P

Yes, Community should be on that list! And Parks and Recreation too. I can’t believe that the writing for the Office or Saturday Night Live you get nominated for any award – it stinks! But I’m really excited to see Friday Night Lights up there!

    • Mandy P

I meant “would” not “you”. Sorry.

  • Rolo Tomasi

    The Office? Really?
