EW has learned exclusively that Dane Cook has been cast to play the brother of Danny “Danno” Williams (Scott Caan). For now, he’s set to appear in one episode that’ll air in February.
Cook was last seen in the flicks My Best Friend’s Girl and Dan in Real Life. His TV appearances has been mostly devoted to his comedy act; he’s done a bunch of specials for HBO and Comedy Central. His early scripted TV work included Good Girls Don’t and Suddenly Susan.

Dane Cook Shapes Up

…Seriously? Eww.
Another thing…where was the Hawaii Five-0 bingo article? I missed that this week.
That’s my question too. EW only seems to do it every other week or so. I thought at first it depended on how much room they had but Tuesday was kind of a slow entertainment news day.
So EW? Anyone like to address this question?
I want my Bingo back! I was only a Chin-ho riding a motorcycle away from Bingo.
I’d actually prefer to see Dane Cook in the role than Scott Caan. There are a lot of fans who enjoy Scott Caan, but he is much too whiny for my tastes. Grace Park is really the star of the show.
Grace is lovely, and may be a good actress, but there’s no way to know from this show. Kono has done virtually nothing. The show so far has been almost entirely two things: Steve & Danno bantering, and the action plots.
I’m probably in the minority, but Grace Park is not that great to me. I’m not sure if it’s her acting or the flat, plot-driven lines she’s given to deliver.
agreed Tego. The writing has really ignored Grace. She’s the token female / rookie / elementary school crossing guard to our 2 (1?) action heroes.
Dane Cook is every bit as talented as Hawaii 5-0 demands.
This is the best back-handed compliment ever!
The writing on most of these procedural shows is real flat with no opportunity for character growth or depth. I agree that I can’t tell if she’s talented or not. The exchanges with her cousin are so stiff. And no one constantly calls their cousin “cuz”. So unnatural.
People in Hawaii actually do this. I’m from there.
Are they actually trying to get people to change the channel? Scott Caan is nowhere near as cool as his father, and Dane Cook is the most annoying “comedian” on the planet.
Scott Caan is cool enough for me. Except I don’t like his hair–it’s like he’s combing it as high as he can to make up for the fact that he’s too short to be a cop.
I agree about the hair thing. I’ve been wondering what’s up with that, no pun intended. Definately time for a cut! However, that photo of Dane Cook makes HIM look like a dark haired Vanilla Ice!
Considering that he has that hairstyle when not playing a cop…it’s not like that at all
Ugh. I really love the show, it’s a lot of fun and beautifully shot, but I really can’t stand Dane Cook. Ah well, maybe McGarrett can shoot him.
LOL! Excellent.
Yes! I am so on board with that. I would also settle for him being beat up badly.
Here’s hoping.
Count me in on that happening!
Yes, please.
Dane Cook totally sucks. Won’t be watching him.
Maybe Dane Cook and McGarrett’s sister can both fall into Kilauea or something and get rid of all these annoying siblings in one swoop.
Please let both of them be eaten by sharks.
Cool!! They’ll become sibling sharky $h!+!!!
Am I the only one who likes both Scott Caan and Dane Cook? Anyone else? Anyone? Bueller?
You’re the only one.
Dane Cook is all kinds of awful. The only way I will be happy with his presence is if he is killed off in spectacular fashion.
I’m not a big Dane Cook fan, but I don’t feel as strongly as these other commenters do… I do, however, LOVE Scott Caan. Who cares if he’s not 6′ tall? He does great in the roll and the play btw Danno & McGarrett is highly entertaining. One episode with an actor I don’t favor won’t hurt anything.
It’s not that I’m personally bothered by Scott Caan’s height; what I was saying above is that he’s about 3 inches under the bar for most police departments. He literally could not become a cop (in most cities, at least). When I saw how short he was, I was surprised when I looked up his father to compare. Had you asked me before was James Caan’s height was, I would have guessed 6’2″ or 6’3″–but he’s only 5’9″ himself.
Dane’s been great in the more serious roles I’ve seen him in. If people haven’t seen him in Mr. Brooks or Dan in Real Life, they shouldn’t be judging.
i loved Dan in real life, but Dane cooks part could have been played by anyone, it was a generic stupid younger brother…Steve Carell was outstanding as Dan (imo)
I agree with Liz. Dane Cook was okay but Steve Carrell really was the movie.
I like Dane Cook AND Scott Caan. Although, I can’t picture them as brothers, but I could see them as enemies. I really cannot wait for this episode to air. I just can’t imagine what the dialog will be like.
You are by far NOT the only one. I think Dane is a perfect choice for Scott’s bro.
NOOOOOOOOO. Why are you ruining your own show?
Dane =not a funny comedian!
but these 2 together w/ james franco would be hot.
good god, NO!!
what a terrible, terrible idea.
this sucks because i have really enjoyed their casting for guest spots so far (william sadler, james marsters, norman reedus, etc.)
Thanks, EW, for warning me when and where Dane Cook is appearing, so I can avoid it at all costs. Keep up the good work, protecting us from America’s worst comedy!
He was really good in “Mr.Brooks”…he just needs a great director.
Dane Cook has really aged since I paid attention to him last (about 8 years ago)…he looks like a middle aged boring old man now.
He’s aged in 8 years?! Whoa!
Whoever thought I’d NOT want to watch a show that regularly features Grace Park in a bikini, but Dane Cook certainly does the trick.
Dane Cook Hate= TOMS=Silly bands= A trend. Goodness sakes people, get over it. He’s just another human being trying to make a living doing something he loves. Poor guy exploded with fame and then everyone hated him for no reason. Seriously, hating him now, on the brink of 2011, is unbelievably passé.
Not “for no good reason”. His “remember-back-when” stand-up schtick became overexposed, which he traded in for awful rom-coms that alienated his base and regular joes. Making bad movies is a quick way to get people to hate on you.
Please don’t insult Silly Bands with a comparison to Dane Cook.
Depends which bands you consider silly.
