Discovery exclusive: Network orders 'giant game of hide-and-seek'

If you wanted to ditch your life and take on a new identity, could you get away with it? That’s the question being posed by a new series Discovery Channel just greenlit.

In Disappeared (working title), contestants are challenged to go “off the grid” and hide anywhere in the world from a team of investigators.

The real-life Running Man has Dirty Jobs producer Craig Piligian setting the stage, hiring a team of professionals that includes a computer expert, a psychological profiler, and a U.S. Marshal to a hunt down the covert contestants.

“It’s a giant game of hide-and-seek with a fair amount of high-tech wizardry,” says Discovery president and general manager Clark Bunting.

The series will debut sometime in 2011 and is one of about two dozen new shows that Discovery has in the works — the most in the network’s history.

Hmm, the contestants should hide out on CNN’s Parker Spitzer. Nobody will find them there!

    That sounds…awesome.

A writer for WIRED magazine did this a few years back. He went off the grid as an experiment to see how long it could take readers to find him based on his articles, interests, etc. that was already online. I believe they found him in two months.

Yes, it became a documentary movie called “Erasing David” and was quite good. This is a total ripoff of that film concept.

  • James

Sounds like fun! Will the hiding people have camera crews with them?

    • dj the stud

haha good point, half the show is gona be seeing where these ppl are hiding, if the camera ppl know, then these experts should figure that out and Jack bauer them (interrogate them)

Does EVERY channel have to do a reality baised show? They already have a show, if you can call the dreck a show “gold Rush” enough already

    • Traci

Yes because they are cheap to make and people watch them.

You realize every show on Discovery is a reality based show, right? In fact I would be shocked if Discovery put out a scripted show.

I normally do not like reality TV, however, this looks like a lot of fun. I would like to give this a go.

  • roscey

    This is interesting!
contestants should go to a very remote place, ideally developing countries in Asia and live with the locals and never contact family or friends. Also, never post photos in facebook. :)

  • ryan ellis

I know I want to challenge them too I’m pretty sure they will never be able to find me if I didn’t want them to

  • john roche
