Image Credit: Bob D'Amico/ABCDid viewers respond unfavorably to all those ABC promos showing Chantal slapping Brad Womack? The 15th edition of The Bachelor had an embarrassing start Monday by posting its second lowest-rated premiere ever.
The two-hour reality show only averaged a 2.9 rating/7 share among adults 18-49, down 12 percent from its last midseason premiere on Jan. 4, 2010. (Each 18-49 ratings point represents 1.3 million viewers). It lured a mere 8.9 million viewers. ABC tried to put an optimistic spin on the night by saying Womack was tops among women 18-34. So that’s something (or not).
At least Womack’s woes didn’t hurt the return of Castle, which featured Laura Prepon as Nikki Heat: The drama earned a 2.4/7, up 26 percent from its series low on Dec. 6.
The night belonged to CBS, which aired originals of its comedies and Hawaii Five-O. How I Met Your Mother earned a 3.9/11 and 10.3 million viewers, followed by Rules of Engagement (3.4/9, 9.9 million), Two and a Half Men (4.6/11, 15.3 million), Mike & Molly (3.7/9, 12.5 million), and Five-O (2.9/8, 10.8 million). Overall, CBS was No. 1 in viewers (11.6 million) and adults 18-49 (3.6/9). ABC was second (2.7/7, 9.2 million), followed by Fox (1.3/3, 4.3 million), NBC (.9/2, 2.6 million) and the CW (.4/1, 934,000).
Fox aired repeats of House and Lie to Me and NBC aired reruns of Chuck and a recap show of The Biggest Loser. The CW aired repeats of 90210 and Gossip Girl.

It’s not the slap that made viewers turn away. If anything, it is the fact that the bachelor is Brad Womack.
I agree. Picking Brad again made the show an even bigger joke than it already is.
I totally agree. Brad Womack is such a fake. Did anyone notice that
he does not look at any girl when he talks to them. He looks away
And the women on this show aren’t fake?
Yes Deb, he is terrible with making eye contact and always seems distracted or mentally out there. Just not a very sincere soul at all and I don’t know how women could put themselves in such a vulnerable position after his last bout on the Bachelor (which I did not see).
Definitely shouldn’t have gone back to that well again.
Hope this show tanks once and for all. It’s pure crap and should not be viewed by anyone.
Considering that Chantal should have been ‘slapped’ in jail for assault, it should not be surprising that the public had a negative reaction. Physical violence is not a joke, and should be seriously punished.
I agree…why should she get away with slapping a male? Violence is not ok no matter what the gender is. They should charge her for assault like they did that teen mom…it probably was staged though.
Its not the slap, its the fact that people are sick of seeing rich good looking people wrestle with who to propose to! Real people have real problems, we dont need to hear sob stories about the rich and good looking. Enough already.
I agree. Also, it’s hard to believe that successful and good looking people have such a hard time finding love that they have to look for it on a crappy television show. There’s been so many broken engagements and fake contestants who are only in it for fame, that it has lost what little credibility it had.
The Bachelor..why in the world would anybody with half a brain watch this garbage??I can only hope these idiots are in it for the money because if this is what one needs to resort to for a love life, they have bigger issues then they realize!HAWAII 5-0 is an insult to any intelligent person out here! Please, stop the torcher.Bring back the original,it was 1000& better then this modern crap.Sorry I missed CASTLE!LONG LIVE TWO AND A HALF MEN!The fat people comedy is getting old.:)
Stop the “torcher?”
I have half a brain. So it’s just my speed!
I am fairly confident that jesse m. has less than half a brain.
That was an incredibly fake “slap”. The whole thing looked like it was pieced together in the editing room. In fact the whole thing was so awkward I had a hard time watching. Women leaping into his arms, wearing fangs that he never comments on, weird shoes that look like they belong in a 90′s London rave, and then the girl who pinches his ass…um, I’m sorry, but if this is love I think I’ll go back to reading Charlotte Bronte. Yuck!
The sound was definitely FX-ed after the fact.
I like Brad and will enjoy seeing him find a new love. He was one of the only honest bachelors in the series and I admire him for that. I wish him the best.
Stick a sock in it, Brad’s mom.
As a fan of this show here’s whatr I don’t get – why does this guy have to spend two hours apologizing for NOT falling in love in his previous stint. What is he supposed to do – fake it and t hen break up with the gal a month later? Good grief, haven’t we already been down that path: **cough cough** Jake! **cough**cough**!!!
This is just more of the dame old ‘Tiger Woods Sorry I’m a Man’ apology tour and if this guy is going to spend every week apologizing for his decision from the previous season….I…am….outta’…..here!!!!!!!!
Reruns generally attract fewer viewers than the original airing. Brad is definitely a rerun.
I agree. If there is anything worse than recycling a “runner-up” for the next bachelor/bachelorette, it’s re-running a previous bachelor/bachelorette from before!
I did not think she should have slapped him. That shows her child like behavor. I belive everyone deserves a 2nd chance. We ALL make mistakes. He is taking responsibility for his. He said he had to work on himself. Give the guy a chance. At least he is attempting to be responsible.
Responsibility for what mistake? Not asking a woman he barely knew to marry him? Going on this show is responsible? I’ll bet you think people find true love on this show too.
Yeah, and people say that gay marriage is what destroys the foundation of marriage
Who said that? Gay marriage isn’t even real.
After reading the article about the dumbing down of Mark Twain, you can’t imagine how much relief I felt about The Bachelor’s ratings going down.
I have to respect Brad for not letting himself be forced into an engagement. He did not want to be like everybody else who proposed, then broke up weeks later. He is not phoney.
I was not going to watch because I was so turned off by the summer series. I did watch however and was impressed with Brad’s honesty, but not impressed with the staged quality of the initial presentation/meeting of the women. Everything is a done deal as we watch the program and he has already made his choice. I hope, for the future, that the producers return to something more spontaneous and real…and how about a minority person or older person as the bachelor or bachelorette???
ALL OF THE CBS COMEDIES WERE WORTH THE LOOOONG WAIT. MIKE & MOLLY IS GETTING FUNNIER EVERY SHOW, BUT TWO & HALF MEN WILL FOREVER REIGN AS A TRUE COMEDY. HAWAII-FIVE-0 IS RIDICULOUS. WE SHOULD CALL THE BACHELOR BRAD “GO-BACK”…A COMPLETE IMPOSTER SEEKING ANOTHER MOMENT OF FAME OR SHALL WE SAY NOTORIATY. THAT SHOW WAS AS DRAWN OUT AND STUPID. THANK GOODNESS FOR DVR FAST FORWARD.
HIMYM was a really sad episode.
Southland was the best show on regular tv. Too bad they dont trust “our” intelligence.
