Kathy Griffin gets four comedy specials with Bravo

kathy-griffinImage Credit: Janet Van Ham/BravoBravo is saying goodbye to Kathy Griffin’s Life on the D List, but they intend to remain in the Kathy Griffin business. The cable network has announced that the two-time Emmy-winner will perform four new stand-up specials in 2011. Since 2005, Griffin and Bravo had collaborated on eight comedy specials, including last year’s Kathy Griffin: Whores on Crutches. “I went to Bravo and told them I thought I was being a little too nice in my stand up specials. They agreed … and gave me four more.  Let the fur fly,” said Griffin in a Bravo statement. The comedy specials, which will air quarterly this year, confirm the end of D List, which Griffin had hinted at to EW in November.

four more reasons not to watch Bravo.

    • stephen

She’s freaking hilarious and you know it.

      • Oh Please

Her comedy style has gone dry. It’s now based on pathetic gags that are falling flat.

      • Paul

She’s an absolute pig of a woman and a vile human being. The minute she shows up on show or TV channel it gets scratched off my viewing list permanently.

  • Leonard

Kathy Griffin just needs to go away.

[Topically Controversial + Funny (see George Carlin) = worth seeing]

[Controversial-just-to-be-controversial + Unfunny = not worth the time it takes to turn the channel]

yawn~ my father liked George Carlin.. they are both dead.

    LOVE Kathy…

That’s great news… but her last special really sucked. I don’t want to hear a 20 minute bit on a reality show I have never seen. She needs to go back to dishing the dirt, but she can’t because she’s C-list now and many celebs know to watch themselves around her. How about 20 minutes on what the hell went wrong with her husband??? Now THAT’s some delish dirt…

You should read her book — she tells EVERYTHING about her marriage and what went wrong. I got a copy for Christmas and read it in one day. I couldn’t put it down.

  • Not a fan

Griffin has decided her new target this year will be Willow Palin, age 16. She called Trig a “retard baby” on Twitter last year. I am pretty liberal in my politics, and I am looking forward to the day the whole Palin clan becomes history. Griffin is just cashing in on their notoriety, and making it last. Agree, another reason not to watch Bravo.

      “retard baby”

      Heh. Good one.

Really? Am I the only one who adored Life on the D-List? I have to admit I was not a fan of hers before the show, but I happened to watch an early season 1 episode and I was hooked — never missed an episode in all seasons. The gold of Griffin, in my opinion, is her acerbic wit and impeccable comedic timing in real life situations. She is absolutely one of the seemingly funniest people — one of those people who keep you laughing no matter where you are or what you’re doing. That having been said, her stand-up leaves much to be desired. Yeah, some of the jokes make me chuckle, but if you ask me her best stuff comes from her off-the-cuff hilarity in every day situations. That was the draw of D-List and I’m really going to miss it. Not just for her, but I grew to adore Tom, Tiffany and Maggie, too. Oh well — best of luck, Kathy. :)

sad to see the D-List go, but glad there will be 4 specials. Hope she makes fun of the halfterm halfwit Mama Palin and porko teenage mommy Bristol

    • Oh Please

Problem with making fun of the Palins is that everytime one of the Palins steps out in public, they prove the nasty humor wrong. It’s swiftly becoming not funny to mock them. No wonder she’s down to 4 shows a year. Lack of original material.

  • Paul

Don’t just not watch Bravo, do what I did and use the filter functions of your cable or satellite provider and block the channel with a lock code so it doesn’t appear in you channel selection. If you simply stop watching they station will still claim you as a household into which their programming is broadcast to their advertisers. Outright blocking takes a bite out of their market share.

  • bmcelrath

I don’t know why anyone would want to watch this obnoxious bully.

  • sonny

The D List is gone because her ratings suck. BRAVO promotes her for the same reason CNN does – they push a gay agenda because the station masters are gay.
Nothing wrong with life-style choice, but I don’t like stealth proselytizing.

On The View (I only know this from news clips; it is unwatchable as a program) griffith (mythical beast) told Hasselback, “Bring it on, this is how I roll, I can take it” but she can’t. She makes her living making personal attacks on others, but when Leno mocked her for being ugly it KO’d her, and she left the studio in tears.

She can dish but she can’t take – THAT’S how she rolls.

And all the plastic surgery in the world ain’t gonna help that face, body and personality.

  • Bruce

I used to like he routines. Found the D List show kind of boring tho.
But her act is getting stale and more politics, less funny. She’s following the same downslide as George Lopez, another one who thinks his politics are funny.

    • metalist

You’re absolutely right about both of them.. Just not worth the time anymore. I used to really enjoy George Lopez, too.

  • Dash Bored

Skank on a stick. Flush twice to get rid of this see-you-in-tea.

  • Not Watching

    She’s trash.

    Definitely will not be watching.

  • robin

anyone who doe’nt like jesus,is not worth listening to.

  • Yak

I like Kathy but the Bravo specials are unwatchable, at least all the ones I saw from 2010 & 2011 (I watched bits of all 6 of them). They are filled with nothing but “BLEEPs”. Why bother showcasing a comedy act with adult language then bleeping half the dialog? Shameful prudish nonsense. I voted by shutting it off.
