A&E is spinning off its critically acclaimed documentary series Intervention.
Coming this spring, A&E will air Relapse, a new show following “sober coaches” as they do whatever it takes to help high-risk addicts who’ve already been through treatment stay on the wagon.
The network has ordered five episodes from GRB Entertainment, the Emmy-winning producers behind the original addictive (ahem) series.
Sober coaches are ex-addicts who give one-on-one attention to people who have repeatedly failed to remain sober (more than 50 percent of addicts who get sober relapse, according to A&E). Each Relapse follows two coaches over the course of one week, helping clients as they go through withdraw symptoms and face other challenges. The clients are all addicts who have not previously appeared on Intervention.
Intervention launched in 2005 and has since not only become a success for the network and inspired many viewers to get sober, but also spawned a whole new cable genre of addition/recovery shows.

This sounds very interesting. Hopefully the show will help educate the public about how common relapse is, how many times an addict usually needs to relapse before finding a lasting sobriety, and how an addict can grow a stronger sobriety from their relapses.
I’m pretty sure Intervention is more than 3 years old.
