Comedy Central is creating its own awards show, The Comedy Awards, which will be taped March 26 in New York City. The show will air on April 10 on Comedy Central, Spike TV, TV Land, Nick at Nite, and Vh1. Nominees will be selected by a board of directors, whose members include James Burrows, Billy Crystal, Will Ferrell, Whoopi Goldberg, Paramount studio chief Brad Grey, Seth MacFarlane, director Adam McKay (The Other Guys), producer Jimmy Miller (Step Brothers), director Jay Roach (Dinner for Schmucks), Ray Romano, Rory Rosegarten (exec producer, Men of a Certain Age), and Phil Rosenthal (exec producer, Everybody Loves Raymond). According to a network statement, “The winners will be chosen by an invitation-only voting body comprised of 500-1000 members from the comedy community — including writers, producers, performers and directors,” as well as “the voice of fans.”

So what are these awards going to honor? Comedy in general or just stand-up comedy? Either way is fine.
I don’t think this is at all necessary, but at least this way, we won’t have “Comedy” nominations for movies like The Tourist (ahem– golden globes)– ever hear of EASY A?
Preach baby! Easy A was so funny! “lets just say i’ll be walking funny tomorrow…” And Emma Stone is so damn funny, I really like her.
Wasn’t there a “Comedy Awards” show back in the late 80s/early 90s. I seem to recall Bea Arthur and Urkel hosting one year.
They already have that Award show, it’s called the MTV Movie Awards.
ZING!
I was just telling my coworkers at lunch today that entertainers don’t get enough awards.
Categories?
Wow, only 1 woman on the board! Not surprising, but not acceptable.
That was my first thought. And she might be the only person of color as well. But what would you expect from Comedy Central?
And yet THREE people who either are, or have a close working relationship with, Ray Romano. Yeesh. That said, comedy, stand-up in particular, has had such a boon lately that this could be great. It might be the only awards show I actually enjoy watching.
The only way I’ll watch is if Carol Burnett gets the legend award.
You’ve got to be kidding me-it’s so tranparsnetly clear now!
