'The Talk' attracts its biggest weekly audience to date

CBS_The-TalkImage Credit: James White/CBSCBS’ freshman daytime yakker The Talk attracted its biggest audience ever for the week ending Jan. 7. It averaged 2.3 million viewers and beat One Life to Life in women 18-34 (.6/4 versus a .4/3) and tied the sudser among women 18-49.

The new talk show — co-hosted by Julie Chen, Sara Gilbert, Sharon Osbourne, Holly Robinson Peete, Leah Remini and Marissa Jaret Winokur — still has a ways to go before it becomes truly competitive among women 18-49, the key daytime target. Last week, The Talk ranked No. 10 in the demo with a .8 rating. CBS’ The Young and the Restless was No. 1 with a 1.7 rating, followed by ABC’s General Hospital (1.4), and NBC’s Days of Our Lives and ABC’s The View (both of which earned a 1.2).

Last week, The View averaged 2.9 million viewers, which was down 8 percent versus its year-ago average of 3.2 million. The top show in daytime last week was, as usual, Y&R with 5.1 million.

Leah Remini just turned 40 and is HOTTER than ever. God bless her.

I agree. She is a SMOKESHOW. Perhaps I ought to tune in… Miss King of Queens.

If The View changed the whole (tired asses that reapt themselves) panel the ratings would go up!

I watch “Y&R” everyday and have been for many years. My girlfriend hates when I tell people about it but I am proud and a Yankee fan too.

“The View’s” ratings last week were lower because they were reruns, unlike the first week of 2010. If “The Talk” makes it, hats off to Julie Chen. She is perhaps the best talk host on tv.

    so true DJ

I haven’t watched it yet but the ratings are lower than As The World Turns I believe. I wonder if someone is kicking themselves in the keister for canceling the show

The ratings may be a bit lower but The Talk is a WHOLE lot cheaper to produce so I doubt anybody at CBS is kicking anything over their decision.

Um, where did my comment go? It was there before. Does EW do that a lot?

I’ve watched “The Talk” when I’m able to and must admit it’s good. The women are genuine (and ALL are likable), seem to really enjoy each other, are warm, and bring up some interesting, funny stories that everyone can relate to. And there is no talks of POLITICS. I like it (especially Sara, Holly). I’ll continue watching.

The Talk is everything The View isn’t….Likable women, nobody yelling their opinions, political debates are NOT the basis of their rants, humor that seems unforced, women that actually seem to like each other, and women who you might want to hang out with. It’s fun.

i prefer watching NY actors acting in scripted drama over (some) actors being themselves( or a semblance thereof) having a contrived conversation about what they think is the news of the day … maybe it be more interesting if they were….

The View has gotten tired and old. and I’ve grown tired of listening to political opinions of people who don’t have enough expertise in politics to be given air time. Except for Whoopi and Barbara all the other women get on my nerves! on the other hand I find the talk to the light fun and entertaining. There is a good mix of personalities and the women genuinely seem to like each other. Sure it’s fluff but it is fun!
