Ratings: ABC airs 'Off the Map' pilot -- again!

Mario Perez/ABC

ABC wasn’t sure you properly appreciated the premiere of Off the Map, so on Thursday the network aired the pilot again — this time with a Grey’s Anatomy lead-in.

And Off the Map did nearly the same numbers.

Which isn’t really a bad thing. You expect to get far fewer viewers for a repeat. But after Wednesday’s ratings cluster-freak with the president’s speech potentially messing with Off the Map‘s premiere mojo, it’s hard to say whether last night says something positive or not about the heavily promoted Map.

One thing’s for sure: The show received plenty of additional sampling. If everybody who watched both the premiere and the repeat tunes in for the show’s second episode next week, ABC will be thrilled.

ABC’s Off the Map do-over drew 6 million viewers and a 2.0 rating compared to its debut’s 2.3 rating. That’s a bit of a drop — but, again, it was a repeat — from Grey’s Anatomy (12.2 million, 4.4). The second week of Winter Wipeout (10.5 million, 3.6) did really well, only slipping a tad from last week’s time-period premiere.

Most competitors aired repeats last night, but there were a few exceptions. CBS had a steady $#*! My Dad Says (10.2 million, 2.9). Fox had an episode of Million Dollar Money Drop (5.7 million, 1.7) that posted a helpful 21 percent gain.

    yayay for grey’s!

and those are good repeat numbers for off the map. most thought it would fall flat on its face. hopefully the 2nd episode wednesday holds up.

this is just irritating. if i wanted to watch off the map that is what i would watch but i don’t. I wanted to watch Private Practice, and now that they did this I will definitely not be watching this new show. stupid ABC

I was EXTREMELY annoyed. I already saw the new show and was not impressed. I was ready to watch Private Practice and, without warning, the new show is shown again. When will that episoce of PP be shown, I wonder??

watching a particularly good episode of GREY’S ANATOMY just underscored how lame OFF THE MAP was…I had a similar irritation trying to catch up with CHASE’S barely publisized time change from Monday to Wednesday – the 1st of a 2-parter – and it was replaced by the 2nd episode of a gameshow that preceded it…grrrrr

    • vineyardgal

Agreed. I wanted to PP, not Grey’s Anatomy with a side of flies.

  • alek

Let me just say, I was extremely annoyed that my tv said Private Practice and I ended up watching this.

    • Randi

I second that! I was confused, then annoyed, and then really, really bored when I actually decided to just go with it. Although both Martin Henderson and Jason George are super hot, I don’t think that alone can save this one.

Yeah Caroline Dhavernas on tv that’s awesome. She rocks as the doc Lily Brenner.

I wonder if ABC did that to force people who DVR Private Practce to watch Off The map, at least once? They promoted PP very heavily throughout the day yesterday and at the very last minute, during Winter Wipeout said BTW we’re re-running Off The map instead.

How can there possibly be a second show? They used up every television cliche in the first episode. Young white doctors saving the ignorant brown people’s lives while battling angst and the elements. Condescend much? The debut was insultingly stupid. Let’s see, they delay a jungle med-evac flight to row a critical patient out into a jungle pond? Right….

  • Margret

I will not watch off the map now because they slighted PP. I had it dvr’d and ended up watching this Lost/Grey’s wannabe. I hope it gets cancelled.

  • brandon3lliott

This show looks like Lost. Does everybody end up dead on this one, too? If so, then I’ll watch.

  • maj

I didn’t mind Off the Map, I’ll probably check out a few more episodes, but I already saw it… When I sat down to watch my DVRed Private Practice, that is what I wanted to watch. So now is the episode that was supposed to air, showing next week? The previews looked like it was going to be a pretty good one and then it didn’t even happen.

  • CarolH

I actually liked Off The Map..I like Grey’s and absolutely love Private Practice this year..I believe Off The Map will only get better..really can’t believe how many people hated it.

  • Meg

This isn’t the first time ABC duped us into watching one of their new dramas. Remember when they aired the Grey’s Anatomy/Private Practice 2 hour premiere? It was 80% Private Practice and 20% Grey’s Anatomy.

  • mary

Ok ABC if I just wanted to watch another greys anatomy but in the jungle I would watch the map. But come on more guts and gore only with a beautiful jungle. What happened to private practice???

  • nervz

Million Dollar Money drop. THIS is why Fox moved Fringe to Fridays? Idiots.

  • Tim Lade

I love how when a network LOVES a show they throw everything they can at it to make it succeeed. “Noboby watched our show? Damn… Let’s show it again!” and yet when a network doesn’t support something like Stargate Universe, Caprica, etc. they don’t put any effort into marketing it or finding an audience and just let it slowly die. Such an idiotic system. Newsflash to ABC…not everything Shonda touches is awesome!

    • Kmarie0201

Completely agree with you there. In fact I was really into ‘Invasion’, yes another scifi series just drops off the earth. Surface also came out at the same time on NBC I believe, and also was cancelled

  • Sam

I thought that off the map sucked!! big time I hope they canel it it was so boring and soft and lame.
