CW plans 'Nikita' changes

Jan Thijs/The CW

When Nikita gets back in action on The CW later this month, expect some changes…

As part of plan to improve the show’s ratings performance, Lyndsy Fonseca’s mole Alex is going to get out of the Division and secretly team with Nikita in the field.

“The show shifts quite a bit,” Fonseca said at TCA press tour. “After graduation she’s out on her own for the first time. The show changes for the better.” In addition….

“We’ll learn more about the relationships and emotional side [to the characters] which will make them more relate-able to fans,” said CW entertainment president Dawn Ostroff.

Critics asked star Maggie Q who was her most favorite kick-ass female TV actress and she had a firm answer.

“Lynda Carter,” she said. (You know, the original 1970s’ Wonder Woman). “I used to dress up like her. I was too poor to afford Underoos. I wore a paper [costume] and jumped from roof to roof.”

I’ve tried and tried to like this show! But it is inferior to the Peta Wilson version it kind of hurts. Lyndsay Fonseca is really the only actress/character I like in the show!

MAybe they could bring on Peta Wilson or Roy Dupuis to play a villain to at least acknowledge the other series.

    • Lynn

You must be a friend or fan of Lyndsay’s or maybe your just blind, LOL!

    • Stefani

I agree. Maggie Q is just too wooden for me, and what’s up with the skinny jeans/leggins every week?
Peta Wilson brought to the role an emotional intensity that Maggie just doesn’t have.

      • David

I totally agree with this comment! I keep trying to like this show but can’t help thinking back to how Peta Wilson played the role and Maggie Q just keeps coming up short.

      • Dan

Maggie Q is just FINE for me. I was so worried that I would fall in love with the show (which I did) but that it wouldn’t retain the Vampire numbers needed to be picked up for the rest of the season (boy was I glad to wrong). Nikita doesn’t need to be (and shouldn’t) as emotional/similar to Alex. We see her doing it just right.

This is 1-million times better than Peta’s!

    • aL

I agree with the Peta Wilson part. I don’t like that they’re trying to “force” situations/relationships on the character to make them more “relatable”.
The Peta Wilson version didn’t try and force anything and still managed to create memorable relatable charactares.

    • tarc

I guess it’s a matter of taste because Nikita has it ALL over the earlier version.

    • Pat D.

Only problem with that is if Roy or Peta plays a villain, we’d all be rooting for them to win, LOL.

  • Summer

Honestly, this show is awesome. I hope that the new Charlie’s Angels series is at least half as good as this.

  • Kiki

I like this show. It’s not the best ever, but it fills the female kick-butt role in my life (like Alias used to do). I’d say it’s not as good as the fist 3 seasons of Alias, but better than the last 2. And I think Maggie Q is awesome.

  • Sid

I used to watch the old version but this new one supasses its predecessor in every way.

I can’t wait for the return and all i’m hoping is that the CW doesn’t turn this hit show to another GOSSIP GIRL show.

  • Josh

I don’t get it. The ratings aren’t bad. It just isn’t as big of a success in the CW’s preteen, vapid and shallow demo.

I don’t know. Dawn Ostroff hasn’t made a good decision yet, she’s horrible. She’s lucky that Vampire Diaries is good despite of her(she is probably really upset Elena isn’t a horrible wench like Dawn wants all her main female characters to be). Nikita has been sooo solid, so tense and dramatic. Why mess with a good thing?

    • Rach

So agreed! Dawn just need to take her leave like… NOW. And let good shows, well, be GOOD! In their own way.

  • Rach

Hmmmm ok. Maggie Q, is amazeballs, so i’m just gonna ignore the previously deluded comments. Cause I can’t even. Lol I’ve seen LFN too, and the french film, and each Nikita holds her own.
And Maggie is doing no different. She is beyond badass and amazing and to me bring an immense amount of emotion, and in my opinion she’s ahead of the pack!
Can’t wait for her to come back in two weeks being all HBIC.

    • Kaya

I am a fan of Peta Wilson’s Nikita but I also love Maggie Q’s take on her. It’s the supporting characters, who bring this show down for me. I stopped watching after a few eps. Hopefully, the changes will get me back into the show.

  • Flip

Did Maggie Q have surgery on her eyes to make herself look more American?

    • Diva

She has Irish and Polish blood in her so I highly doubt it.

    • Deb

You mean Caucasian right? Because there are Americans with Asian ancestry, don’t you know. I believe one of her parents is Caucasian, so no surgery involved.

      • SueN

Yeah, she speaks American real good, too. LOL!

  • RM

On half the shows, the writing is plain bad. For the other half, the show is a snoozefest. For a show like this, it has to be all action all the time aka Jack Bauer.

    • Jason S.

BTW the producers/writers of the original La Femme Nikita created 24!! The writing in the show is laughably bad. The original was the coolest/darkest thing on TV at the time! This is jsut a watered down version!!! IT actually tries to be more like Alias then Nikita! But then again Alias was a rip off of La Femme Nikita!

      • Tina

You are TOTALLY right. LFN was HANDS DOWN THE BEST drama show ever on TV. Nothing was ever as it seemed and the attraction and tension between Roy and Peta was mesmorizing. Nothing will ever come close.

  • JBD

I think change is good. Something needs to happen because I’m not as hooked on the show as I want to be. If I missed an episode, I probably wouldn’t care.

    • Kaya

      ^Agreed

  • joblo

I like Nikita. It’s more of popcorn viewing for me but w/ 24 and so many of my other favorites gone I’m regularly watching and enjoying it. Doesn’t hurt that Maggie and Lyndsay are so hot and awesome….

  • Bryan B

I really got into this show. I look forward to Alex getting out in the field. However, the tension her spying causes makes for great TV…

  • Dee

I’m still pissed they killed off Thom

    • Ashtrash

Me too! He was one of my favorite characters!

  • V

Wow, people getting caught up in nostalgia. That show is gone, get over it.
i’m not a huge fan of this one, it’s only ok, but there’s potential to get better. And i’m pretty sure most agreed, otherwise you won’t be wasting your time watching.
Writing needs to get better, need to put actors in better situations to shine and producers need to tweak vision for show.

  • Buffyjunkie

I hope there aren’t too many changes. That last episode was pretty epic. Was loving it just the way it was.

  • AshleyBrooke

Please please PLEASE do NOT ruin my show. I love it. The only change you need to do really is add on Devon Sawa as a regular. Thank you! Lol

    • CT

Yes, more Devon Sawa. I like his character and his interaction with Nikita
