Martha Plimpton eyes return to 'The Good Wife' -- EXCLUSIVE

good-wifeImage Credit: John Paul Filo/CBSFox may have just given Raising Hope a second-season pickup but that doesn’t mean that star Martha Plimpton couldn’t moonlight from time to time. To wit: EW just learned exclusively that Plimpton’s in serious talks to reprise her role as the conniving attorney Patti Nyholm on CBS’ The Good Wife. Plimpton played the memorable character in a couple of episodes last season, and the producers have wanted to bring her back ever since.

Fortunately, Plimpton’s schedule on Hope is flexible enough that she can squeeze in a little Wife time sometime this spring, an insider said.

Plimpton’s decision to return to CBS’ top-rated drama underscores how fortunate the producers have been when it comes to attracting appealing guest stars. Executive Producers Michelle and Robert King told the nation’s critics in Pasadena today that they are routinely approached by actors who want to join in on the fun; unfortunately, their casting budget can be stretched only so far. But they do have some pretty provocative folks in mind for future episodes: Robert King said they’d love to get Donald Rumsfeld.

Good lord, my heart nearly stopped when I glimpsed this headline. Just so long as it doesn’t take her away from Hope for too long. That show is absolute perfection with her as the mom.

I agree with you 100%. Raising Hope has become my new favorite show. It is so right with them being so wrong. I cant wait for the show to come back in February.

She’s good on the Good Wife too as the conniving opposing counsel. She’s got great range.

I absolutely love The Good Wife and thought Martha Plimpton’s character was great, so this is good news. My issue is in what universe is The Good Wife CBS’ top rated drama? The best drama, I’d agree with, but I’m pretty sure anyone with basic math skills could tell you this isn’t the networks top rated drama.

“They’re not saying it’s the #1 top rated show on CBS. Just that it is a top rated show. Just like 20 or other shows that are considered “top rated.”

      • aby

Top rated implies the ratings are above a lot of other shows, that is not the case. It becomes meaningless to call a show a top rated show if all shows are considered top rated. Its a minor quibble, but I see it all the time and just because a show isn’t pulling Lone Star numbers doesn’t make it “top rated”. I suppose saying the medium rated drama doesn’t sound as interesting even if it is more accurate.

She’s amazing on both shows! Martha is another one of those actors that I will watch anything thy’re in (like all the Deadwood cast and Nathan Fillion).

  • Trixie

I really like her as this character! Glad to hear she’ll be returning.

  • J

Will she show up on How to Make it in America again???

    • Karen

      Lets hope so!!

  • Sheila

I was so glad to see her on this – she has always been fabulous…

I didn’t realize how much I loved Martha Plimpton until I watched her on that episode of The good Wife. I’m excited. I love the show.

Oh she was so good on The Good Wife. I would seriously love her to return as a guest star but honestly I would kill for Carrie Preston to reprise her role as Elsbeth Tascioni. She was perfect.

  • tracy bluth

Yay!!! Now, how about getting her to guest on Fringe again?

  • jfms777

Hate to say I told you so, but . . . weeks ago I said that if FOX would let her moonlight away from “Hope” she would return. Wonderful news.

Martha Plimpton is one of my childhood memories from…The Goonies!
