ABC picks up 'Subergatory'; TNT has 'Generations'

UPDATED: Add Subergatory to the list of ABC pilot pickups.

That’s “Subergatory.” So if you want to use that while playing Scrabble tonight, have at it.

The show is described as a satirical family comedy about life in the suburbs. A New York City girl moves to a cookie cutter community only to discover that life in the ‘burbs is more frightening than any horror movie she’s ever seen.

Emily Kapnek (Parks & Recreation, Aliens in America) is the writer and executive producer.

UPDATE: TNT has picked up Generations to pilot. Here’s the storyline: This one-hour drama series crosses back and forth through time to follow the lives of three generations of the same family who have lived in the same house. The show comes to TNT from executive producer Robert Redford and writer/executive producer John Sacret Young (The West Wing, China Beach).

I think this show will see a name change before it hits the screen.

Yeeeaaah I think so too. Way too much of a mouthful for a country that loves Two and a half freaking men.

Finding love, falling in love, or maintaining love – all require patience. Don’t rush love whether your searching for it, or if you feel you’ve already found it. Time was invented so everything doesn’t happen all at once.

Both sound promising. The premises are pretty good, and the behind the scenes talent seems awesome.

I really like the sound of the TNT show.

If the title “Subergatory” is supposed to be a mash-up of “suburbs” and “purgatory,” then why isn’t it “Suburgatory” instead of “Subergatory”? Where did that ‘e’ come from? Either way, it’s quite an inelegant title.

you beat me to the punch–I was going to say the exact same thing!

me too! why not “suburbatory” even?

ABC definitely needs a name change for that show. The last thing they want is another phenomenal comedy with a polarizing title (Cougartown). And I really love the sound of the TNT drama. Something about it just rings with potential to my ears. I’m thinking huge hit if it is done well. Too bad ABC didn’t get this one. They desperately need a solid drama for their Sunday 10pm timeslot.

Funny, an early leak on zap2it had this show listed as “Suburbatory”. I was excited because I have a webcomic online with the same name and was hoping for some accidental traffic. oh well.

I absolutely love this show and can’t wait to see the next episode. I’m a big fan of Raising Hope and The Middle and this show is just as funny

Subergatory is the most stupid series I’ve ever seen. The script and acting is even worse. I don’t mean to me illmannered, it’s just that I cannot understand how someone could invest money in such absurd series.
