'Parenthood' stays put; NBC postpones return of 'Law & Order: Los Angeles'

Parenthood-castImage Credit: Art Streiber/NBCNBC put the kibosh on a plan to move Parenthood to Mondays and will keep it on Tuesdays at 10 to give Law & Order: Los Angeles more time to reboot itself now that three of the original stars are leaving the freshman drama. New episodes of Parenthood will now air on Tuesdays for the remainder of the season while LOLA will return on a day to be determined.

The Peacock also announced other changes to the schedule. The new competition series America’s Next Great Restaurant will debut on Sunday, March 6 instead of the previously announced date of Wednesday, March 16. The Marriage Ref – which was meant for the Sunday slot — will return at a later date.

Alfred Molina will step up to replace Skeet Ulrich on LOLA, even though he’s already on the show as a district attorney. He will continue to play Ricardo Morales, but it will be revealed that his character was on the Los Angeles Police Department for 15 years, and earned the rank of detective. His frustrations as a prosecutor reach a tipping point and he decides to return to the police force. Terrence Howard, whose character Jonah Dekker alternated with Molina’s Morales, will now be in every episode.

ugh! Sick of them treating Parenthood like crap! Maybe it can take over The Cape’s timeslot when it is inevitably cancelled?

    • AB

awww, I like the Cape :D but yeah, it’ll get canceled.

    • stu

The Apprentice is more entertaining than The Marriage Ref.

  • Kary

Happy to see Parenthood staying on Tuesday. I think it would get killed if paired with the Event. Go, Bravermans.

    • Dash

I agree. I’m taking this as a really good thing for Parenthood.

    • Will

unless they move the Good Wife, Parenthood may continue to struggle.

  • Ann

Yay parenthood. Moves generally don’t work out. This show deserves more support than it gets.

  • Irwin

I wish they’d move it from Tuesday so I can see The Good Wife too. For me Wednesday or Thursday would work, but that’s just for me.. Do love that show! Glad to see that it was a likely pickup for next season.

    • Allison

Me too! Aside from “The Good Wife” being a great show, I’ve met Scott Porter and would like to support the show for him… but I got hooked on “Parenthood” early.

    • Lauren

I say this all the time- the only reason I watch GW live is bc hulu is far superior to cbs at online streaming.

  • tomm

I hope ‘Marriage Ref’ get cancelled, very unfunny and forced laughter. J. Seinfeld doesn’t have magic after all.

    • Allison

I actually thought a couple of the “fights” were really funny. But then I don’t find “The Bachelor” or “Jersey Shore” remotely intriguing.

    • California

lol I really liked the marriage ref … and I have absolutely no idea why

  • rey

i liked molina as the other da. i even liked how the the prosecutions teams alternated.

  • Julie

Sooo glad Parenthood is staying. It’s a great show. I’m surprised more people don’t know about it…

    • Eileen Lavadera

Parenthood is my favorite show. All parents raising teenagers or a special needs child needs to tune in. Love this crazy, dysfunctional family.

  • Nancy

I hate that Parenthood is on against the Good Wife! I wish they would move it so that I can watch it ‘live’ instead of On Demand later.

    • Nancy

May I also add that I hate that the moving of L&O:LA has pushed SVU back to 10. Now it’s on against Top Chef.

      • ger

I can’t believe the networks didn’t consult you before they made their schedules.

      • Rack

Well, NBC has consistently demonstrated it sucks at making out a schedule.

      • Brett

Of course, Bravo NEVER repeats episodes of “Top Chef.” Not even RIGHT AFTER THEY AIR.

      • Sarah

SVU is more suited for the 10:00 hour.

  • pitt

While I am very glad that NBC is keeping Parenthood around–it’s one of the 3 shows I watch every week–it is a bummer that it is still up against The Good Wife (also one of the 3 shows I won’t miss). I believe the ratings would be better if they would at least move it to the 9pm slot.

  • Maggie

Time for NBC to cancel that bomb L&O:LA. They need to do anything and everything to bring back the original flavor of L&O.

  • Saucy

Please just kill LOLA…in fact, please kill all the L&O’s – they are all long in the tooth.

    • eejm

Aw, not L&O: UK! It’s not tabloid crap like the others have become and has a very solid cast. BBC America is currently showing it, but I think it would do well on NBC. Come to think of it, very little could ruin NBC now…

      • melc

I hope the ‘mental titans’ NBC don’t bring L&O:UK to the US. Every time a US network adapts a show from the UK they ruin it. We just don’t have the writers or the paitence. It seems like everytime a really smart show appears on the air it gets killed after a few empisodes because it dosen’t play well in Middle America.

  • Betty

Parenthood is a great show!! L&O LA or any other city is just old

    • Brett

For those of us who like L&O, and never got into “Parenthood,” I say to you, “No.”

      • Gracietoo

I agree, Brett! I love all the L&O shows and habitually love certain of the reruns. Not into Parenthood and it’s not because I didn’t try, trust me! Love The Good Wife and can’t wait to see new stuff on The Marriage Ref!

  • ObiHave

Parenthood is consistently well written and acted…one of the best ensembles on TV. I wish it’d get the respect it deserves. I said the same thing about “The Middle” and now it’s on everyone’s Must List.

  • Pelon

‘Parenthood’ has finally found it’s niche. but as to be expected NBC can’t leave well enough alone and let a show build it’s audience. glad they’re leaving it alone – for now. as ‘L&O-LA’ put it out of it’s – and ours – misery. it was a bad idea to begin with. bad writing, no chemistry among it’s cast, just a bad imitation of (formerly) good franchise. let it die quietly and start fresh with something brand new.

  • Rack

Hey NBC, I have an idea, how about you cancel that LOLA crap and bring back the original L&O which was perfectly fine with solid ratings when you cancelled it. I find it hard to watch any new show on NBC given their awful track record with new shows, and even old ones.
