Fox picks up pilot from 'Veronica Mars' scribe Rob Thomas

Fox has picked up a comedy pilot from Veronica Mars (and, even better for this writer, Party Down) creator Rob Thomas.

The single-camera comedy is about three families united through their kids little league sports. The title is Little in Common (at least that title will likely remain unchanged, unlike this one) and it’s produced by Warner Bros.

Sounds rather disappointing and ordinary from Rob Thomas.

    • Meg

I agree, but one phase can’t really capture an entire show. Like, if one just heard “teenage girl detective solves mysteries in her small town” you’d think “uh, yeah, that’s Nancy Drew.”

      • C

And “a half-hour comedy about a catering company” doesn’t really sound too exciting either.

    • Flip

I only care about this show if Kristen Bell shows up as Veronica.

“Disappointing and ordinary from Rob Thomas” is a contradiction in terms, at least so far.

This jumps right to the top of my most anticipated list.

as long as logan echolls is one of the dads, I’m in

  • Luke

How about a Veronica Mars movie instead????

    • Vivian

      Agreed.

      • Ashley

YES! I just finished rewatching Season 1 and I remembered how much I miss VMars. I need some Logan in my life.

    • Flip

AGREED!!!! Rob Thomas, please us VM fans before starting new projects we just don’t care about.

    • minister

No chance, y’all. It’d be great, but no chance.

You’ll get the mini reunions like on Party Down though, no doubt.

Don’t lure us in here with a headline like that only to disappoint us. Rude.

  • arzbest

Rob, get back to “Veronica Mars” and do something with it. Anything!

I’ll give it a try – Veronica Mars, Party Down and the best YA book ever – Rats Saw God – his track record speaks for itself.

    • Brianne

Rats Saw God! That was a great book. I should read that again.

  • Mike Delicious

sweet! now hire Lizzy Caplan and Kristen Bell and you got yourself a viewer!!!

  • Warren

I don’t begrudge Rob Thomas moving on, guy’s gotta eat, but Veronica Mars is some pretty outstanding unfinished business. I’d really like some closure before I fall for RT’s new projects.

  • jpratm

this was a cruel title- you had me you really did- i need some ronnie closure

  • C

Awesome! I look forward to cameos from the usual gang.

  • cregis

Veronica Mars was one of the best television programs that apparently nobody watched. The writing was great. I hated to see it end. That fight with Harry and Enrico was one of the best ever on tv.

  • Katy

I’ll watch it, but I’m not too happy about it being a single-camera comedy with lame subject matter. On the plus side, it’s a comedy on FOX so it’ll be on the air until the end of time. I just hope it’s good. Mars is a tough one to top.

    • GOB

“it’s a comedy on FOX so it’ll be on the air until the end of time” … right, just like Arrested Development.

  • Rosie

Yay! I’m always interested in seeing what RT does next! Even though I’m still hoping for that V Mars movie…

  • Tee

    That premise sounds zzzz.
